Hi CZ Congrats on the pregnancy! I am in the same situation (due in 9 days). After looking at many hospitals and clinics we decided on Zahra Hospital in Barsha. It's a really great hospital with fantastic facilities at the fraction of the cost compared to some of the other private hospitals. We found it more cost effective to take the antenatal package (AED5,000) from 12 weeks than pay as you go. The only extras we've had to pay for was the NT scan and blood test at 13 weeks (AED1500) but I know many opt not to have the test done. Overall it has been a very good experience and we are looking forward to our hopefully natural delivery at the hospital.

Any December due mommies who live in the Motor City area and would be keen to do a meet up in the afternoon/evening or know of any happening? I work full time so can't make the Mercato coffee mornings.

Hi Ladies We had our 20 week scan and all looks good, and thanks to husband caving, we found out it's a girl! The name hunt is on, but it's so hard agreeing on one. I would love to meet up with some December mums! When are you starting your antenatal classes and where? Anyone done the classes at Zahra Hospital? Would also be interested to hear about pregnancy fitness classes besides prenatal yoga. Anyone doing hypnobirthing?

The last time we went over 2? years ago (not sure exactly but felt like yesterday), it was very safe. We drove over 2000km in our entire trip from Port Elizabeth through the Garden Route to Cape Town, and then through the vineyard/northern route ie Franschhoek to Oudtshoorn etc to get back to P.E. Besides practicing and observing the usual common sense and safety precaution, we never felt unsafe. We drove everywhere, even through some unknown/unpaved roads and into tiny township. In fact we fell in love with S.A, the scenery, food and the people, we are making our second trip there again in September. Will let you know if we feel differently :-) I am sure the other posters here will give you a more updated outlook regarding your concern. I am from Cape Town and just went back to SA for the first time in over 2 years in December. My DH and made a full road trip out of it, drove from PE to Cape Town along the coast on the back of motorbike, it was an absolutely amazing experience. We stopped over in Mossel Bay for a night at the Protea Hotel. Stayed in and around Cape Town for a few days and drove back to Port Elizabeth using the above mentioned inland route. I can assure you as the previous poster says, if you use your common sense and plan your trip in advance you will be fine. I have lived abroad for close to 10 years now and SA is fine as long as you use your common sense!

Hi December Mums I am so happy to have finally made it past the 12 week mark! Can't believe how good I feel after 6 weeks of ****. We have had our NT scan done and at the appointment doc said she could see the *** (13 weeks). DH doesn't want to know the ***, so stopped her from revealing, but I went back afterwards and got the details, now I want to know how accurate is it this early on? I thought they don't / can't tell you till at least 16 weeks? How, and we are with Dr. Yamini and I absolutely love her and her nurse! The front desk staff at the clinic are a bit on the slow and unorganized side, but so worth it seeing Dr. Yamini, her super cute nurse and the midwives!

Hi Towis Did you ever get more information on Jebel Ali Hospital's maternity unit? We are looking at it now and I am struggling for information.

Hi Moms Could you please recommend an ObGYN at Saudi German Hospital for maternity package and delivery? I have searched the forum, however it's all old threads and no doctors are really mentioned. Also any information about recent experience delivering there would be highly appreciated! Thanks in advance

Hi Ladies Just want to see how you got on at RC? We are now in a similar boat; the landlord gave us 12 month notice (after we refused to pay his increase, only agreed on the RERA mandated 10%) and have now found out that a few of our neighbors received the exact same eviction notice (LL's family moving in). I just want to know if it will be worth taking up a case as we are really in a bind now. We found out that we are expecting our first one (due date is 3 weeks before we are meant to be out) and have tried to move now before prices go even higher, but the LL is charging us 2 months penalty and our deposit if we move now. I really don't want to be househunting/moving with a new born, but have decided that our LL is to greedy for his own good and really think we should take him on (along with our neighbors). anyone have any advice on their RERA experience? thank you

Thank you for the replies! I must say I am not crazy about the idea of not always seeing the same doctor. The only reason why we are considering Latifa is their NICU and (in case needed, hopefully not!) CS price. If you look at their normal delivery prices compared to Zahra it's pretty much the same as well as the antenatal package. Thank you very much for the replies ladies!

Hi Ladies Just found out we are expecting our first, and trying to get as much as possible in order ASAP... task 1 for us... finding a doctor. So besides Dr. Yamini at Al Zahra, could you please let me know if you have used any of the other ob-gyns? thanks

Yasmin is not a mini pill (no estrogen). A very good one that was suggested to my by my Dr. as I am a high risk for cancer is Cerazette. Some friends have also gone on it and none of us have had any side effects, also, you can take it when breastfeeding. good luck :)

Glad you find it amusing abet. Landlords who only own one property, have a huge mortgage to pay at the going interest rate but are prevented from putting there rent up by more than 5% must be laughing away too - not! 22% is a huge difference for a landlord - how can it be fair to not allow any increase. It is because of this nonsense that landlords and agents are resorting to unethical means to get tenants out or increase rents. no need to get snappy It isn't amusing, it's just plain ridiculous! Our building is full, with 3 new buildings opened up next door and a few more on the verge (and we are living on the outskirts of Dubai because it is the best we can afford) and many of the newer buildings have been standing empty or at 50%, so when things start looking dim, like they are now with the insane prices again... I am not going to cry over it, I am going to laugh, because none of it makes sense, how when there are so many half empty and brand new buildings around, with nothing more to offer than our current building except for it being new, does our landlord suddenly feel that he can now ask for the same as the rest (who are empty?) does it not make sense to keep your building full at reasonable rates instead of empty at ridiculous prices??????

we are currently having a right royal giggle at our landlord/agent at the moment. Got a letter in the week saying that they are giving us 3 month notice (as per law) that they are pushing up our rent, by a lovely14%.... to get it to market value, and in the letter they quote some laws, but when we actually took to researching the laws they used, they have taken it completely out of context! Agents really just try to take advantage of most peoples ignorance/laziness to find things out for themselves/put up a fight when it comes to laws here. But I have to say, RERA has really stepped up their efforts to help renters! We contacted them and it is very clear that we are not eligible for any increase as we are 22% under market value and the law is that if you are 26-35% under market value then they can only increase by max 5%!!!!!! I am very close to just doing a sneaky circular in our building to inform our neighbors of the sneakiness going on. Perhaps if we all just say no (of course with the correct info and help from RERA) we could stop this crazy price inflation!
