Hi Ladies Some friends are thinking of heading to Singapore this weekend for Eid but they want to be able to have a drink. I know a few ladies on here have lived in Singapore before so just wondered if anyone knows if there are any restrictions on alcohol being served there during Eid? Thanks! :)

Hi KB75 Sorry to hear your LO is unwell. I highly recommend Dr Ahmed at Family First on Al Wasl road (Madinat end) He's great! Extremely child friendly and doesn't just push meds at you. He's old school and makes sure he gets to the root of the problem, rather than just treating the symptom. He also holds a couple of clinics a week at City which can be an advantage if your insurance covers you there. Family First's number is 04 380 5430. Hope your LO is feeling better soon! xx edited by LMAO-DXB on 29/09/2014

Thanks for the replies! Tried Babyshop in MOE and they were out of stock of the size I needed. Only had the little ones for Moses baskets, but managed to get some from Home Center. Pretty good price too! Only aed29 each. I was expecting to have to pay much more than that! :)

Thanks Amelia. Is the DEWA head office the one near Wafi? Do you think I could get it sorted at Al Manara Municipality or only at DEWA? Also was yours deducted in installments or in a lump sum? edited by LMAO-DXB on 20/09/2014

Hi ladies! Im so sorry for not having replied until now! I haven't been on this page for a while, always forget that the thread was moved to the Maid's section! My lovely lady has actually found a new family to join and will start with them in a couple of weeks time. I will be staying in touch with her though so if for any reason things don't work out I'll be sure to let you know. Thanks and sorry again! xx

Thanks for the recommendations and about Holidays with kids! Kjt, where about in Lamai is Rocky's? When we went to Koh Samui we stayed at the Silavadee in Lamai but it was about a 10 min drive to the part where you have the night market and the beach restaurants etc. If we were to go back to Lamai (or anywhere for that matter), we'd want somewhere within walking distance to restaurants and cafe's

We went to Raffles last year and really enjoyed it. Great atmosphere, lovely decorations, the food was fantastic - it tasted really home made and totally reminded me of the Christmas dinners my mom makes! Seating was at big round tables. We were quite a big group so we filled the table but Im guessing that if not then you would probably be combined with another party. Could be good or bad i guess. The only real negatives were that Santa's visit was TOTAL chaos and could definitely have been organised much better, and after the first hour or so it was really loud. It had a real party atmosphere but we had a couple of little ones with us (both 18months old) and it was just too loud both for them and us so we spent most of the time after food sitting outside. But the outside area was very nice although there were a lot of smokers out there. Raffles is quite pricey but I think its worth it. Make sure you book well in advance tho, it gets fully booked really quickly. This year we're thinking of either Bab Al Shams or maybe The Westin. Did anyone do either of these last year? Whats the verdict, esp regarding being child friendly? I know that Bubblicious is always highly recommended as a kid friendly brunch but just wondering if its just as good for christmas? edited by LMAO-DXB on 04/09/2014

thanks for the advice ladies. Stupidly I've never thought if taking her to an ENT. Always just go to the paed who prescribes oral antibiotics but I feel so bad for her as the side effects of the antibiotics seem worse than the actual infection. Great to hear antibiotic ear drops are possibly an option here, looks like you've just got to see the right person for them. Its actually this thurs we're going away. Anyone know of any off the shelf ear plugs I could get as I wont have time to get anything shipped. The putty ones sound great tho. Tru Blu, out of curiosity, how old was your DD at the time? mine is 2 yrs and goes absolutely feral just at the sight of a dr! :(

Hi Zambia In Al Barsha on the road leading up to MOE with Lulu's on your right, there are a few shops on the opposite side of the road to Lulu's that sell ready made Indian and Pakistani clothes, I'm not sure if they also tailor or not, but on the same road there is also Regal tailors. I've had some asian outfits adjusted there and DH has had shirts and suits made. Quality has always been very good but I'm not sure how they compare price-wise to the others. Probably more pricey but maybe worth checking them out before you make the trek across town.

Hey ladies We're looking to take some friends for brunch (either fri or sat) but they're not into buffet brunches. Any suggestions for nice non-buffet brunches? But that also don't cost a fortune! TIA! xx Dry or alcohol? Preferably with alcohol. Nothing rowdy but friends like the odd beer with food.

Hi Apricot! It's frustrating isn't it! I'm so thankful she's at an age where she won't get upset that mummy's sending her in a really crappy outfit! Everything at DD's nursery is like top secret, well, in her class anyway. She goes into a new class in sept with a fantastic teacher, thank goodness! so im hoping they will be a bit more forthcoming with info. Last time they had a themed day, it was international day and we had to send them in national dress and with some of our national foods. They told us on the tues at pick-up time, ready for it to be held on the thurs! Grrr!!

Hi Yorky. Thanks for your suggestions. Will definitely check out all of those. We're planning for 14 nights away so if somewhere within a 7 hr flight it will all be at one resort. If we go somewhere like Bali tho, I think we'd probably have a 2 night stop over somewhere on the way.

Thanks ladies. Flights aren't an issue as company will cover the cost. But just the hotel prices alone in Maldives are crazy!! For all inc, i think the lowest I found was around aed33,000 for 2 adults and 1 2yr old! would love to go but cant justify it. Wouldn't feel comfortable with Egypt, Jordan, or Kenya because of safety concerns. Pre-DD it wouldn't have bothered me but i'm super paranoid these days! So I'm thinking Thailand, or Sri Lanka as most likely. Does anyone know, when there's been political unrest in Thailand, is it usually centered around Bangkok or does it affect the resorts aswell? And does it ever impact on the airport? Love the look of the resort in Bali Suethack. The flight is longer than I had wanted to do (was thinking around 7ish hrs max as this is same as we'd have to do to go back to UK) but if we could also do a stop off like you did, that would definitely make it more manageable. If anyone can recommend any other places or specific resorts that are child friendly, that would be great. I've been looking on Expedia and there is defo quite a significant price difference! Thanks again ladies! keep the recommendations coming! :)

Hi ladies. Thanks for the replies and suggestions. Unfortunately no, I didnt manage to get anything sorted. I looked on some of the websites and there weren't any girls super hero costumes I could see. With no transport and very limited time today I didn't manage to get anywhere to try and find alternatives. So poor DD is going to be going in to nursery tomorrow as the worlds worst cat woman. Feeling really bad ab it but thank god she's only 2 so hopefully wont know the difference. She doesn't even know what a super hero is! I hate it when the nursery come up with these great ideas and dont give sufficient time to get things sorted. A weekend in between being told, and it actually happening would go a very long way! Thanks for all your help anyway! xx

thanks for the replies. Im thinking that turkey will be too cold that time of year and Jordan and Oman aren't really floating my boat at the mo. As the tickets will be paid for, makes sense to go somewhere a little further afield i think. Definitely like the sounds of Maldives, and possibly Mauritius. Anyone know what the weather's like in nov / dec? ETA: Just been looking at hotels on booking.com....all i can say is OUCH!! I knew it would be expensive but think I would have to sell my child to be able to afford to stay at any of the all inclusive places for 2 weeks!! Very few AI actually came up tho, I thought there would have been more. :( Ok, so other options.... edited by LMAO-DXB on 12/08/2014

Thanks ladies. Knew I could count on you! Fortunately (or unfortunately!) ampleness (i'm sure there's a better word than that!!) is not an issue in my case. I've got an interview later in the week and my interview dress gapes at the neck a bit if i lean forwards at all. I just want it for sticking my dress to me so that I dont end up disclosing more than my interviewer is bargaining for!! ;)

Hi Kjt. Its not actually for me, its for my friend who is an British OT and worked in DHCC but took a bit of a break and now needs to get her DHA licence. She definitely needs to sit the multiple choice exam so was just looking for a bit of inside info from anyone who has done it recently that could maybe help her out a bit. She's stressing out big time about it.

Thanks ladies. Good to hear from others that I'm not being as high maintenance as they make out. Honestly, I really dont think I am, but whenever I raise an issue (and it is only ever valid issues about things that concern me regarding DD's safety) Im always told "its only you and "child x's" mom that complain about things. Everyone elses parents are happy, they are always smiling and never complain, you can ask them. Why is it always you that is complaining. Why is it always your child and "child x"?!" - this was what I got from the teacher yesterday....in the middle of the nursery reception!! Im so unimpressed but need DD to be in nursery at the mo and cant change for logistical reasons. :(

Hey ladies DD has been going to nursery for a few months now and although on the whole we are happy with it - she is happy and settled there and the teaching assistants seem to really care about the kids, there have been some issues and when we try to address them with either the manager or DD's teacher, they get very defensive and generally respond with something resembling a temper tantrum, rather than an objective, professional approach. Its getting pretty annoying now to be honest. Other parents there now feel they cant raise concerns with them as they are very unapproachable and will then give you the cold shoulder for weeks on end afterwards. Changing nurseries isnt an option for us at the moment but I just wanted to see what other peoples nurseries are like in terms of raising issues and concerns and the response you get. Is this kind of attitude the norm for here?? TIA! :) xx

Hey ladies I'm trying to contact Arc Hospitality (specifically a lady called Mimi), for a quotation for catering for a seminar I'm organising. On their website there are no contact details at all - just a form to complete for them to contact you back. I completed it and received a generic response saying that someone would contact me back, or i could call them on a mobile number they provided. I tried the mobile number but it was invalid, and tried replying to the email and it bounced back. I later received an email from the Chief of Operations asking for feedback on the service I had received so far and if i had any feedback or issues to contact him directly. I emailed the address provided and that bounced back aswell. Does anyone have any contact details for anyone at Arc so I can try and speak to someone. I'm on a pretty tight deadline for getting our catering sorted. TIA! :) xx

Thanks ladies. Dont get me wrong, DH is never unkind to our pooch in any way and will still some times brush her, bathe her if needed and I ask him to do it, take her for her walks and even sit and give her a good fuss. Its all so contradictory. Im glad that he is still behaving this way towards her despite his feelings, but I've tried to take over as many of the responsibilities for her as I can so he has to do as little as possible for her - I was hoping this would ease the situation which i think it has a little but it obviously hasnt solved the problem. :(

If it were me, I'd start to wonder what would happen if he found something inconvenient about me ... I did actually ask him that and he just said something along the lines of "Dont be stupid" or "dont compare my family to a dog" or something like that. I dont remember exactly as its a little while ago when we had that particular conversation. But he cant see that the principal of it is upsetting me almost as much as the situation itself

No GE, unfortunately we dont. I feel so heart broken and really betrayed. This thread was about all that was keeping me going on this for the moment. So now just back to me, myself and I, trying to sort my own cr@p out, as usual. Our circle of friends has dwindled significantly since we had DD as we can no longer go to all the cool places and do all the cool things. Everyone that was so excited for us to be having a baby and couldn't wait to be a part of her life vanished in a puff of smoke wen they realised that wen you have kids, the partying stops. So its pretty much just us now and a very small number of people we can call friends. I very rarely ask for help from anyone no matter what is going on or how bad it is. It felt so good yesterday having the support of others to try and find my way through things. Im just really disappointed by EW today :'( edited by LMAO-DXB on 05/05/2014

Hi Forty_Winks. We were there last weekend with our DD (almost 2 yrs) and it was fine. There's a lovely terrace out the back that looks over a pond with some fish in it, and there's a grassy area around the side where the kids can run around (assuming its not too hot) Hope you have a lovely time. :)
