Hi daisy bell I hope you are enjoying your time so far in Qatar. I started looking for schools around March when we were thinking of moving over (we moved from Scotland). Mostly every school told us we wouldn't even be considered until we have our rp and even then it would be tight. I've since applied to other British ciriculum school which aren't my preference but will keep trying with the schools I actually want. I've also been told that getting a school close to where you live would also be an advantage as it can take over an hour to do the school run! Hope you get on well ?

Hi Pootle 765 I told my husband that sunglasses would probably be quite expensive! Lol I'm coming over with 5 pairs so as my daughter like to "play" with them. I've also bought a lot of shoes, although he's assured me that there is a Clark's shoe shop there....but I'm guessing it'll be really expensive. Every time I think I'm finished shopping, I'm told there is something else that we would be cheaper getting whilst we are in the uk lol :) Hi all, great you are finding friends here! I moved last year and am back in the UK... Here is what is in my suitcase with apologies for those without kids: Tampax (! Not easily available and vanish when they do appear) Kids' shoes and trainers More new sandals and summer pumps for me (driving in flip flops is not for me) Little cardigans from Primark - perfect for covering strappy tops I sew, so double sided bondaweb.. Designer sunglasses from TK Maxx (cost me £10, cost in Doha, add x1 "0") New swimming costume Kids uniform items like socks Kids books Fun kids lunchbox dried fruit snacks (very cheap in UK) LEGO! Small birthday presents for kids from Home Bargains / Wilkos - almost impossible to find stuff in Doha that isn't cheap 99p shop quality or hugely expensive. I am Hello Kitty laiden... ....think that's it... Good luck!

Hi Eleanor, Really? Aww, I have been so emotional the last 24 hours, I don't know how you've felt. Definitely, that sounds like a good idea, I'm not sure if you can swap email addresses but mine is yvonnewstein @ hotmail. Co. Uk. It's comforting to know that there are other mums moving over at around the same time. Yvonne :) Dear Yve, we are exaclly in the same situation!! My husband left yesterday, we (me and DD, 8 years) will come to Doha in August! Shall we keep in touch and share the experience? We will be living (I suppose) in Education City and DD will attend ACS School 4th grade. I am keen in meeting new friends, expecially families with kids. cia, Eleonor This is a great post. My husband flew over to Doha from Scotland today, well actually, he is half way there to be precise. Myself and 2 kids will be joining him in August too and I actually feel really overwhelmed, more that my other half will be organising accommodation for us without me. I already feel a little more settled in joining this website, it's good to know there is a friendly atmosphere between all the expats ;)

Really, I would have thought airport officials would have confiscated it. I was told that coffee is about 5 times the price and that is one thing that I should bring a vast amount of and that there isn't a great choice. Thx

Really, that's good news. Have your children been attending for some time? It would be great to get some feedback. Thank you. Good morning, My kids go to ISL and we are very happy with it. My kids are happy going to school every day and to me that is very important. ISL is a school that welcomes parent involvement which we like too. Hope this helps.

Fantastic Eleanor, I will look into those too. Thank you for all your help ladies! :D With ages 3 and 4 you could also apply to Kindergarten. We looked at Eldertree for my son in case he didn't get a place with his brothers. It looked very nice and the parents I have spoken to have been very happy with it. There is also the Montessori Way kindergaten in West Bay and CESK and TEK - there may be others too, these ar the ones I can think of

Thanks Eleanor, I may have to just do that. In this time of the year it is very difficult to find a school with free places as the applications for 2014-15 are mainly closed. Try also Loydence Academy and Cardiff International School, they could have spots. It is not worthy to try with ISL as it is full. We applied in January but we don't have a place. The problem with young kids is also that schools give preference to siblings (of course) so the first grades are occupied mainly by siblings. As your kids are still very little, you might consider a form of home schooling for them for one year, maybe together other families, and apply for the next year, starting very early the application process. Good luck!! Hello again, I've been researching schools and just wanted to know what anyone's thoughts on this school is. We are moving to Doha around August/September and seem to be hitting a brick wall with getting my kids enrolled in a school, my little girl will be 3 next February and my little boy will be 4 next March. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!! Many thanks.

Thanks ladies, I will add that to our ever growing list. I was really excited about moving over until someone told me that we should be starting to research schools NOW. Ever since then, I have been so stressed trying to find a school that will accept applications. Not only are most of them not accepting applications for this year, they aren't accepting applications for next year and we can't even be put on the waiting list. Internation School of London have advised that there may be spaces, but I have read quite a few bad reviews of this school so I'm just not sure what to do.

Really? That's good to know, I've already done a little shopping trying to stock up on the things that I'm not 100% sure Doha will have available. Thanks for all your help ladies!

Aww, that's great thanks for all the info!! I will get school uniforms etc and just ship them all over in the container. I'll definetely get a lot of supplies from Boots as there is minimum. Thanks very much for the info...it's looking like we'll be more in supplies than flights lol :) There is a few Boots shops but stock in limited to the basics. Like many , I tend to shop at home where possible. I rarely ship things here and only buy minimally in Doha. Here, in for example M&S , the price can be double of the UK price . I have just been back in the UK and bought lots of makeup and clothing mostly because of more selection as well as price. Did lots of shopping on the internet as well as the highstreet and updated all my undies , shoes, swimwear and gym stuff. .I have a 2yr old and a 4yr old who will both be at a uniform wearing school from September , so as well as clothes ,got school shorts, socks , shoes , new lunch bags , drink bottles and trainers much more reasonably than here. Also bought toys and books for their birthday gifts. Raided Tescos baking isle for cake decs and bought lots of coffee beans ( half price of here ) .

Thanks, I'll look into that now!! Are there any shops there that was have back in the UK, I know there is an IKEA. I use a lot of No7 products but I imagine there isn't a Boots there, so would have to bring supplies. Another question as you are saying that food and clothes are quite expensive, I've heard a lot about the dress code, are there do's and donts regarding clothes?
