Try MiMaids: http://www.mimaidsdubai.ae/ They have their own drivers, and are very reliable. 2 hours for AED 80. Always have done a great job for me.

I use MiMaids - well-trained, professional, insured, and very reasonable prices. If you prefer to have the same maid each day, that can be arranged as well. They are so easy to deal with, too - very professional. And as an agency, they have all of the legalities managed, so you don't have to deal with any of that hassle. www.mimaidsdubai.ae 04 361 9416

Hi- I'm helping a friend who needs a duplicate birth certificate and she is out of the country with the whole family. I have the Certificate Acknowledging Birth and a letter from my friend authorizing me to act on her behalf. I was told I have to go to Al Baraha Hospital, Dept of Preventative Medicine. I've called several times to see what else I need to bring, and every time they are so rude! They hang up, lie, yell at me, and worse. Anyone know what to do? Thanks!

I go to Dr. Ali at Breath & Health Alternative Medical Centre for acupuncture. He's very good - I've noticed a huge difference (treatment for arthritis and anxiety). He's very informed, caring, and takes time to listen to you. Also, the same Centre has a hypnotherapist, Rachel Foy, who works with people experiencing anxiety and panic attacks. I see her as well - what a difference it has made! They can both be contacted at Breath & Health Alternative Medical Centre, 04 348 9940, on Al Wasl, first service road after turning left off Al Manara. Hope it helps like it helped me!

I know a BRILLIANT hypnotherapist who focuses on weight loss. Her name is Rachel Foy and she runs her practice out of the Breath & Health Alternative Medical Centre (which also has a number of effective treatments). You can schedule an appointment by calling the Centre at 04 348 9940. It is located on Al Wasl, the first service road after you turn left of Al Manara. I can recommend her from personal experience.

Hi everyone - I have a friends coming over and the company is sponsoring them as an architect and engineer. They heard that there's a test they have to take in Dubai. Does anyone know about this test? Any information would be appreciated!

First time away from my family for Thanksgiving - any suggestions on where to eat some turkey, mashed potatoes, and all the fixings? I know this is Dubai and it may go contrary to the grain here, but my suggestion on where to have your Thanksgiving dinner would be to make it yourself and to enjoy it at home. Thanksgiving at a restaurant just isn't the same. Invite some friends over to enjoy the delicious meal with you. We did that last year and it was fabulous. Most of the major supermarkets carry frozen turkeys and most of the other ingredients are easy to get here. I wish I could, but my oven is broken. :( Operating on the "something is better than nothing" principle - ;) Now, if I could microwave a turkey...

Hi. I'm not a lawyer but my step-daughter has just graduated from Fordham Law School (waiting on Bar Exam results) and looking for a job here. Are you working in Dubai? Any advice for her? Also, I'm expanding my division at work. It's new, and it'd be some contract work, but it would be some experience. If that sounds interesting to your step-daughter, just let me know!

Yes, and yes, though not sure how helpful it is. I'd say, if she's a fresh graduate, also think about a paralegal position for a year or two, just to get some experience and knowledge. Also, use the career services office at her school. I found an amazing connection through the office at my alma mater that helped me get a job, and I'm from a really small school - you just never know! Best of luck with the bar exam results - that's such a stressful time!

I am so sorry to hear about your friend. My husband passed away last year from ALS. It's a horrible disease. Though we were in the US, I'd be happy to help in anyway I can. Message back and we'll working something out.

Apps: do you have Duolingo and Memrise? Both are great and largely free. I have a friend in Palermo who may be able to do tutoring over Skype. The good thing is that she's American, so native English speaker, and she learned Italian when she got married and moved to Sicily about 8 years ago. She knows how to explain the differences in ways that makes sense, and she can anticipate problems before they come up. I lived with her for about 3 months, and she got me from no Italian to being able to follow the thread of conversations in record time. If you're interested, let me know.

I highly recommend Dr Amirpasha Jawad Ghasempour, though he is in Sharjah. Very reasonable rates, good with kids, and no pain! I chipped my tooth on my second night in Dubai, and went to Dr. Ghasempour on a friend's recommendation. I was really nervous being brand new to Dubai, but it was a better dental experience than I've ever had in the States! Thank you for this info, where is he based in Sharjah (what practice)? I need to replace a filling..argh! Ouch! He's with the Jawad Medical Center, 065621118, and fillings are usually from 200 to 250 dhs.
