How about if you leave Dubai with a credit card bill/ loan but continue to pay it off once you have returned to your home country? I am transferring back with my job but won't be able to clear the debt for a few months.

Thanks It is 2 months notice and forfeit of 1 month's rent. You think if they fill it within the 2 months they may waive the penalty payment? Do I have to send a notarised letter by signed post to submit my notice? I've just noticed too that my contract states unless I give 3 months notice before contract end date I will be liable for rent payment again on a new contract. Seems a bit harsh?? Thanks for any advice!

We saw a Paediatric Urologist last summer with our DD. His name is Alan Dickson and he works out of the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital as well as some of the other private Manchester hospitals. He has done work with Great Ormond Street as well and is very highly regarded in his field. We are lucky to have international private healthcare but I don't think he charges for a fortune for his initial consultation. We ended up going to the Children's Hospital A&E department a few times whilst we were home last year and they did not charge us once, even though we offered and told them that we were not entitled to free NHS care. Our DD has ongoing treatment in Dubai and he confirmed that they are doing everything correctly which was comforting. I'm not sure who you see over here but Dr Jhouni was brought in as a consultant to our normal doctor at the American hospital and was also very helpful. I can also recommend Dr Sridhar at the American Hospital who has recently taken over the treatment for her - he also seems to be very knowledgeable and very thorough! edited by Dubai Blue Moon on 22/01/2013 And I should also mention Alan Dickson too as he started the process with my daughter and was also fantastic (and is still my daughter's consultant Unfortunately he doesn't specialise in keyhole surgery as was required by my daughter - hence referral to Patrick Duffy

I am also panicking about a voucher tour I have booked where the final confirmation time once I had paid my money is pick up 03.00am, return 4 pm Isn't the point if this safari supposed to include a sunset?? I now can't get a response from emails. But my company is different to the ones you mention. Do the same companies operate under different names?

Hi A friend of mine is a super talented (and award winning) fashion designer looking to specialise in bespoke bras, body shapers and corsetry etc - for all shapes and sizes! She is considering coming to Dubai to set up a small business and is wondering if there would be a market for this? She is not pitching over the top pricing - just a dedicated and professional service Any feedback? T/a

I'm told the that a New Year's Eve picnic on the beach is popular here but am hosting friends from the UK who would not make it through the night without alcohol! What's the position on this ( I have an alcohol licence) T/A edited by Daisy111 on 27/09/2013

Urgent advice needed! I have submitted my passport as part of the resident visa process and hadn't reckoned on how long it would take. In the meantime my 16 yr old daughter's tourist visa is due to run out in 4 days and I can't take her over the border without my passport We are new to Dubai so don't know anyone well enough to request help with the drive and I'm not happy about putting her on a flight on her own Any advice re the grace period/ how to pay the fine etc - or if I drove her to Hatta would there be some service I could book to take her over the border for me and get her visa extended on return? Thanks

Hi All Sounds like a plan - and I definitely didn't mean to discriminate against anyone - was more thinking a 20 something 'youngster' may not want to spend time with an 'ancient' 40 something - but it would be great to meet anyone who is keen to socialise (although I'm not sure my organisational skills are up to setting up an official group!) An evening would actually suit me better but as I have only been in Dubai for 2 weeks I'm probably not the best person to recommend a spot - especially if it needs to be central for everyone As a start I am temporarily based in Green Community but can easily travel anywhere How about an evening next week (Wed?) I'll be guided on location by a longer standing resident. Hope it works out

Hi We have relatives visiting over Xmas/NY and we would like to rent a large villa (min 4 beds) to accommodate them. No young children, just elderly parents and friends Preference is Arabian Ranches or Jumeirah Islands but I believe sub renting is not permitted (if I'm wrong on this very happy to pay a reasonable rate) We don't have a house in UK (only a holiday home in Istria Croatia which we would be happy to offer as a swap anytime) Any ideas please

Dear Daisy it is helpful if you tell us what you are comparing to? London? New York? Hi I guess i would be comparing to London but that's not really a consideration as the salary is higher It was more an exercise in budgeting based on our AED salary I guess only thing to quantify now are the utilities etc Are there any rates bills I should be aware of (in UK we call it Council Tax)

Hi We are moving to Dubai soon and are calculating our living costs vs salary Can anyone give a guide to average monthly expenditure to cover food/bills etc on 3 bed villa (no pool and not including rent or school fees ) for a family of 4 (2 x 8 year olds) Generally what percentage of salary would be taken up on rent? I appreciate this is fairly subjective but a rough idea would help to decide if the move is a valid option Thanks in advance
