Hi, fully furnished apartements in al warqaa 2 opposite aswaq on aglgeria street start from 40.000 aed, you have bus stop there, that goes to rashidya metro station, cycling-running tack with outdoor gym, small spinnys just opened, aswaq supermarket, shops, beauty salons, etc. there is lots of young expat people living threre, i think its their company accomodation. Anyway, not everywhere in dubaiis so expensive. Good luck

Hi ! We have been house hunting and have come across Al Warqa'a area (opposite to the Mirdif City Centre) It suits our requirement - independent villa within the budget we have Can anyone share their thoughts about this area? How is the community? Is it safe? The other day we drove there and it seemed nice and quiet. But my husband has been concerned because he has been told by one of his Emarati friends that Warqa'a is not safe and after reading the recent burglaries happening in villas in Dubai he has been very concerned. Could anyone staying there kindly share with me their views and concerns. We have been staying in our current house for a very long time so if we move it's not going to be for a short period. We want to make sure that the community is a good one! Thanks :) Hi, I lived in al warqaa 2 near aswaq for two years. Area is brilliant, theres cycling track with outdoor gym, large playground, aswaq, mas supermarkets, pharmacies, doctors, very close to MCC. Acces to maid roads within minutes. I loved living there, we had independent villa with large garden( i had vegatable patch in winter), neighbours polite and helphul, on my street mostly Emarati, never had any problems nor security issues. Lots families have chikens, goats, etc in the gardens so you might get a chicken running down the road ? i suppose it depends which part of al warqaa you decide to live in, the further ones are 3 and 4, and go on for miles. But as per my experience we loved living there.

Please help me I feel like I am going nuts I am a western mum and I work full time and I have had a maid for the last 18 months and we have had a very good relationship. She currently works from 8:00am to 6:00pm and takes a two hour nap in the middle of the day. She has Fridays off and works for about two or 3 hours on Saturday. We have one son (6 years old) and he is usually at school from 6:45 to 2:45pm each day and is currently in summer camp. We live in a small 2 bedroom villa. I have assigned her cleaning duties during the day while my son is at school and ask her to take him to the park or pool for 90 minutes each afternoon. Recently she has stopped doing things that I would expect her to do and often require prompting to do things that are within her daily duties. I came home yesterday afternoon and she was sleeping at 3pm. When I woke her she angrily told me that she didn’t finish her work until 1pm. We pay her extra on top of her usually agency salary (hired through an agency) and we treat her very well. After sitting down with her last night, she indicated that the work is too much and we expect too much from her and that her hours are too long. She claims that she doesn’t have enough time to complete her cleaning each day. She has also said that we don’t see how hard she works (despite thanking her regularly and telling her how much we appreciate her). She said last night that she doesn’t know if she wants to continue working for us. This has all come out of the blue and I feel like I am going crazy. Is what I am asking her to do unreasonable? I can’t imagine her finding an easier maids job (small house/one child at school) unless it was for a working couple with no children. I would really appreciate some insight and advice. I don’t know how to rectify the situation and we really don’t want to lose her. She great with my son and she is a very good maid. Mat29, does the agency you hired your live in maid starts with E ?

having maid working part time for you ( maid sposored by someone else) is illegal. Your best option is to hire agency maid.

I'm hosting a Christmas open house and someone volunteered to be santa for the kids. I'd like to take him up on his offer but have no idea what to do about gifts. We thought of getting every one to buy gifts under x number of dirhams but it doesn't work because the kids are all different ages and being that they'll all get different things, arguments will abound!! Then I thought of asking everyone to contribute a certain amount per number of children they have then I'd do loot bags where everyone gets the same thing. But again, the different ages makes that difficult. Any brilliant ideas on how to deal with this without making things complicated?? I think oarents should buy presents for theis children, they know the best what they like. Just labet it with childs name.

Hi ladies - i accidentally messed up my first post lol so had to delete. So I've found a lady over in the philipines i desperately want to bring over. The issue is ban from the philipines. is there any way i can get her to leave the country? anyone tried it? I know, the ban makes it all very difficult. I think you have to use agency to bring her, they charge quite a lot of money though, i heard of 10000 aed people paying just to bring a filipina here. On top of that you have to add all sponshorship cost.

It was not the worst but funny, embarsassing, and a total accident. Party itself was brilliant, my friend was celebrating both of her childrens birthdays at joint party. There was mix of nationalities and religions among partens and kids, everyone got along perfectly. Then time came for pinatas, for bithday boy number 6 and birthday girl number 9. Party organizes should have hung them with atleast 3 meters apart. Imagine reaction of all partents when piniatas were hanging next to each other - 69 ! It was unforgetable bithday party :)

I am do fed up with maids coming and going Need a good agency to get me a full time maid in their own sponsorship Can you please help? Thanks For live in maid on agencies sponsorship there are two companies i know of: howdra and explorer. I used the latter for past 4 years, fees work out a bit more expensive then private soonsorship but if you dont like the maid agency provides replacement. As well when she goes on her vaccation they provide replacement maid. Atm the might be long waiting list in those agencies as current ban on filipinas maids means they cant bring any more new girls from filipines. Hth

I've recently moved back to Dubai and I'm looking for a bed for myself. I'm looking for a normal UK Double bed with an upholstered headboard. I've been to all the usual suspects but can't find anything I like for a sensible price. I don't want to be spending alot of money (ie Marina Exotic and The One prices) and Ikea, Homecentre, Pan, even Dragon Mart, don't seem to do many beds with upholstered headboards - the ones I have seen are very ornate. Does anyone else have any other suggestions? Also, are all the beds here American sizes. Im concerned about buying american sizes because finding bedding will be hard. When I ask the assistants in the shop they just look at me with a blank face. Any help would be appreciated as I'm so confused and I just want to be able to sleep in MY bed :) TIA Hi, have you tried Pinky furniture? Also you can have one easily made, in Karama. Just bring picture of what you want, choose wood and fabric, then negotiate. Hope that helps

Hello to you all!, I am a very new member who will shortly ,we hope be moving out to Dubai! In the next few days we will be coming for a look see! I have looked constantly at the various property sites but would really like some feedback from residents as to where would be best with our ageing dog? Leaving her is not an option so we are very keen to find the right place! We are a couple whose children flew the nest a long time ago so we would really like somewhere fairly quiet. We have a pretty good budget and would like a villa with some garden and maybe a pool, although a compound pool is ok! Husband will be in Jebel ali Freezone! Any info please! Hi, arabian ranches is very dog friendy compound.

Thank you all for your replies. My dogs are german sheperd like dogs, they are used to living in an apartment but obvioulsly it isnt small and got two balconies and we spend lot of time outside playing and running with them. They have been with us since many years, so it is not an option to leave them behind, however they will join only if i find a proper solution, otherwise they will stay with my husband and i will move back after couple of.months of work. However, you mentioned living outside dubai and commute, where would be the best place and what transportation options are there?? you could get a cheaper accommodation in Sharjah or Ajman, small villa with garden. But commute time would be long, at least an hour! You could put a dog flap in the door so your dogs could come in and out whenever they need.

for your budget of 55000 aed/ year you can get one bed in JVC, Dubailand, International City, Silicon Oasis. Have a look on Dubizzle. I do not recommend keeping two large dogs in small apartment, but I hope you will have some one to look after them during a day or at least have a dog sitter.

Hi Arriving Soon :) It is gated, but I'm not a fan of living in an apartment. I lived in one in Motor City and it was a nightmare, for me at least. Constant noise, disrespecting neighbours, horrible smell in corridors, people leaving their rubbish on the floor instead of throwing it in the garbage shute( which caused ants and other creatures to creep out everywhere, plus the stench),throwing loud parties at silly hours people arguing, poor security, strangers walking in to the buildings, maids using corridors as an indoor playground for kids, etc. I can go on and on and on. But each to their own. Of course some will have totally different opinion on living in a apartment, this one is based on my experience. Hi Apr04, Ugh! May I ask which part of Motor City you lived in? I don't think it matters which building, area, city, one lives in. Arrogant and disrespectful people are everywhere! But living in a villa gives me much more freedom, no problems with neighbours ( quite opposite actually), everyone minds their own business but if one needs help, always can count on my neighbour.

My husband is currently looking at rental potentials in these two areas. We have two boys aged 14 and 8. The GC apartment seems spacious and has a great view, but I'm trying to find out what the community is like in terms of facilities and family friendliness. Arabian Ranches seems well developed in terms of community, but it's hard to judge remotely. I'd really appreciate any advice about the pros and cons of each area. Hi, I would choose ranches villa over apartment. I used to live in both, and Arabian Ranches wins for me. Kids can make lots of friends, ride bikes, there are play areas, swimming pools, parks, even tick or treating for Halloween. I live in independent villa at the moment, and although it's great I do miss the community feel of the Ranches. Hope it helps.

Hi all, I just moved to Dubai a week and half ago. My husband got a job a the begining of June and his company needed him to start July1st. We decided to take the plunge and pack in a rush move. I also had just graduated from teachers college in Canada and thought I'd be able to find work out here. My research so far has not found me a suitable position. GEMS Wellington offered me a teaching assistant position but the pay is not enough to survive on and doesn't even meet the minimum wage hourly back home so I had to refuse the job. Also since I'm a qualified teacher I would like to start my career as one. Does anyone here know of any school who would be interested in hiring a newly qualified teacher from Canada? Any information woudl be great! Thanks! Hi , welcome to Dubai and forum :) there is new Canadian school opening in uptown mirdif. if you google it you can find their ifon and contact directly the school. Hope it helps a little. take care

Good morning, did anyone of you move to Dubai without having a drivers license? My office is located rather inconveniently and taking a cab all the time seems to get a bit expensive, especially since I live quite far ( taxi, metro, taxi..) away from work, due to a better environment. I have made up my mind and will finally start on getting a drivers license. I never had one in my home country, and have zero driving experience. A lot of the driving institutes offer V.I.P. classes, which seem to cost a lot more, but things seem to go much quicker. What do you guys think how long will it take me to get my drivers license with VIP classes? So far I am targeting to get things done within 3 months, however I have read some reports online which state it is possible to complete everything within one week. That does sound a bit insane to me! Did any of you, or your kids, learn how to drive here? How long did it take you to complete these 40 classes, + theory,..? Since I will be working, I feel that the pressure is obviously a bit more. I am considering to take a few days off in between to get things done quicker. Any advice or elaboration of your experiences shall be appreciated. (Oh, and I will probably go for Emirates Driving Institute??) Last year I have learned how to drive. It took me 5 weeks from beginning to end- from attending my first theory class and receiving my drivers license. It would have been quicken, but it was Holy month of Ramadan, so hours in the school were shorter. I used al Ahli school in al Qouz, they offer evening classes, Friday classes and VIP package- I don't know what it is about as I did my course during week days. you could give them a ring and ask about vip. there were 4 tests: theory test ( multiple choice, easy if you read the book), garage and parking test, internal test ( test on the streets of al qouz, for school to asses if you are ready for final test), and RTA official final test. Everything is quite straight forward. If you have any questions, Im happy to help.

SEY83, could you please help me, it's all so confusing. My daughter was born on 29 December 2010 and was accepted to Gems royal Dubai to start FS1. Will she still go to school this year? I appreciate your help thank you Bump :) getting too stressed now Sorry Apr04 I was away from my computer! Your daughter still qualifies for FS1 in September 2014...literally by 3 days so if they do implement the new rule properly this year then she will be one of the very youngest in the class. The cut-off for September 2014 is the 31st December 2010. Thank you for replying SEY83. Feel a bit calmer. I rung Royal Dubai School, they said that so far everything stays the same, if there are any changes parents will be notified. Thanks again.

I do agree with other ladies, bring as much of everything as you can. I would bring loads of short sleeve baby grows in all the sizes up to at least 10-12 months. I remember going thru so many clothes and with horrible water, wind, hot air, clothes damages very quickly here, especially baby clothes, ones that you wash almost every day.

Is it really bad too be a girlfriend there? Are all the guys really bad for being unfaithful? I cannot believe if you are not married you don't really exist, that must be such a struggle for the girlfriends who go there. Is it true that men are so powerful and women are not? Sorry for all the questions this is just so important to know and I am struggling to find the truth on Google. Thanks You must understand that United Arab Emirates is a muslim country! there's no boyfriends and girlfriends! If you follow the law ( that you should do ) you as a single woman have to live separately and be sponsored by employer. the same for male. Co habiting is illegal ! Many people brake this rule and live together without marriage but I would never want to risk going to prison and being deported! Men here, like very where else in the world cheat. I think here, the problem is that during summer most of the wives leave with kids for their home countries and some of husbands who stay here alone for 2 months use this time to party, cheat etc.

What does He care about the age of his customers as long as they are paying? Is he rude to elderly customers too? He should be calling YOU to apologize! I think,, recently there has been many threads on places that used to be really good and popular( nail salon, now this hairdresser) that people complain about their lack of professionalism, staff having attitude issues, being rude, not caring about customers anymore, their services that cost a lot of money. If they continue their behaviour soon they will have no customers left, and bad opinion travels fast as well.
