Its doable if you don't want the hassle of driving and extra cost of a car. Taxis are easy to get. They arrive within 10 mins of calling during non peak hours. There is Uber and Careem as well.

Used ALM when we moved recently. The worst moving experience ever. 50% of wooden furniture had deep scratches on them. Things broken. They put something heavy on top of our piano and there are anow 2 neat dent on each end of piano. 2 med size potted plant disappeared. I saw them load the potted plants in the truck but it never made it to the new house. Brand new elliptical trainer bits broken. Picture frames broken. Never had a move this bad before. So beware.

We went a few years back and travelled independently. Booked KLM to Helsinki via Amsterdam. Took the sleeper train to Rovaniemi. Spent 10 days in Lapland over Christmas. The best time ever. Its cold..got down to about -28C. So make sure you and kids are well attired.

Thank you for your replies.. much appreciated. We believe that just because we can, financially, it doesn't mean that we should not asses if its justified or not. Just trying to make an informed decision. We looked at Jumeirah Golf Estate as well and loved it. Now, we are trying to do the pros and cons against Meadows/Lakes before deciding. Again, many thanks! Cheers! It has to be said - if you have enough money to consider those sorts of villas, you shouldn't be worrying about how much the utility bills will cost :) If you're cooling every bedroom of a 5-bed villa in the summer, plus running a pool chiller etc, don't be surprised to be paying 5000 AED-plus per month. We know several people who pay that much and more.

Well, heard from the police that they saw from CCTV, someone picked it out of my bag while we were seated in the restaurant. So investigation is going on currently. So I guess, at this point, I am just hoping that whoever has taken it has the decency to chuck it somewhere where it can be seen eg. on the roadside and not in a bin.. and someone will pick it up and my IDs, driver's licences, papers etc are still in it. I can only hope.. lesson learnt for me.. :( <em>edited by Kate123 on 14/05/2013</em>

Quite frankly, I find the whole fare - pasta, pizza, salad from Figaro quite horrible. Went there once with the kids and it was horrendous. Will not be back again.

Yes, I have done all the reporting to JBR/The Walk security, taxi company, police. Police are investigating. I am just hoping for miracle, that perhaps some one had come across a discarded purse on the road side or if someone found a purse in a taxi. Spoken to the taxi driver, I had his phone number, but he said he did not find anything and he had taken 2 passengers since he dropped me off. Like I said.. hoping for a miracle..

We used a company operating off Grand Habtoor Beach Hotel,JBR. Can't remember the name of it unfortunately but you can google them or call the hotel. We are quite familiar with the safety procedure as we've done it a dozen of times in different countries previously.They were good and we were pretty happy with the procedure's standard before and after the flight. Dhs250 per person.

Pikachu, I've thought about taxis but they are not very reliable and sometimes they just don't turn up, especially at that hour of the evening with traffic jam on that side of town as well. However if nothing else work out I will have to try my luck with them.

Well.. it is in the evening around 7pm on a friday so I am not too keen on fifteen noisy and energetic 15 yrs old in the metro on a peak hours. I don't know their parents at all or well enough to ask for help especially since it is going to Dubai Marina where the traffic jam on a Friday evening can be daunting. Any other idea?

I'd switch place with you in a heartbeat! I love love love Canada, and Finland! Two place where I will move without any reservation at all.I have lived in every continent except Africa and Antartica, and I must say, have no plan to move anywhere in Africa, not for any money in the world. I don't care for Dubai at all, have been here for over a year. Another 3 years to go.

We tried everything under the sun for nearly 3 weeks and the buggers survived all of it. Then I read on the internet to try the supermarket/pharmacy box hair colour - any brand! It worked wonder! One go and all dissapeared.. and my daughter had a beautiful light brown hair at the end of the whole debacle! Try it! A one time 35 mins of the hair colour chemical is no worst than nearly 3 weeks of daily 40 mins nits shampoo!

Depending on your budget of course.. if budget is not an issue, then Mandarin Oriental or Westin for KL and for Singapore the Intercontinental Hotel, Raffles Hotel or Mandarin Oriental. Personally, I am a big fan of Mandarin Oriental and the Intercontinental Hotel.

I have 2 snow boots, Columbia brand, size 2, brand new with box. Kids had a growth spurt and their feet grew a whole size in the last few months! On sale at Columbia for aed159 but I can sell them to you for a 100. Let me know quick as we are leaving on tuesday evening.
