Just said that they were realigning the business plan secondary to the delay in construction, and would be in touch when more info becomes available. Yup. That's it for us schmucks. I really wanted to work for Sidra. <em>edited by RRTNICU on 21/04/2015</em>

Yes tax free but also Adventure!;) I'm not worried about Yemen. Sure we could have another Arab spring. But I doubt it would touch Qatar.

Interviews? I had just one through Skype. Yes Sidra can ask for a check verification of your wages. I was not asked for pay check verification. But I did list my gross pay, take home pay(after taxes) and my shift diffs. I started this journey back in June 2014. Submitted all my paperwork in Jan. 2015. Just got licensed. I went through a recruiter which might be faster it looks like.

Hi Abby. Yes heard it all this week. Excited! I think this all started back on 1/16/2015. When I started getting all the paperwork together. So it took about two months. Whew. I certainly hope you hear something soon. It would be fabulous if we all came at the same time!

Abby nothing to report. Kathy I didn't get any new friend requests on Facebook. Maybe it was someone else you asked? Haven't heard a thing from my recruiter. Maybe that's good? I will drop her a line next week. Have been working a lot of OT and have a ten day stretch off after Tuesday night. I need a break. Whew!!! We had an in-service on the portable/ transport ECMO device. It's a small centrifugal pump and I loved it!

I believe the opening will be longer than that, maybe a year or more, so the wait yet might still be significant, and as such some relocations have been halted. I was told my position was still in fact a go and all they are waiting on is the liscence and visa, just when that happens is the big question. But at this point, nothing would surprize me. Patience is a virtue, almost a test to see how badly you want to go! You can also search qatar council of health professionals and search to see if you're listed in the licensed registry. Sadly, I am not there yet! And on the main page of the SCH website, if you look around for the links to primary source verification, you can check the status of your data flow check. edited by abby86 on 28/02/2015 edited by abby86 on 01/03/2015 edited by abby86 on 01/03/2015 Thanks Abby!! Wow Kathy! Talk about a screw up. To do all that and then find out it's a business visa? It's good you noticed. Lol. John Kerry? How cool is that! It will be interesting to see what your friend says. I will say that I was told it's my experience they want which isn't just clinical and I have management experience. Have helped re do more than one department or rebuild a dept. per say. Have experience with rewriting a policy and procedure manual/manuals etc. Have done CAP etc. I'm one of those Therapists who wanted to learn everything just because I could and I love tech. Way back before I graduated in 1989 I was doing O2 rounds/stocking and getting paid in 1988. Haven't just done children. Maybe all that experience is paying off. Lol. I dunno got to be something we know. They need Therapists to build the dept. and help with the units and training. Why not us? And this انها مشيئة الله translated to 'It's god's will" or "Insha' Allah" إن شاء الله. All my friends that have worked and lived in the ME(some for more than 5 years) said get used to waiting. Once I get to Qatar I'm going to take a course to learn some Arabic.

RRTNICU, Did not work in Pensacola as a RT so did not know Diane. But did work with Jolie for the entire time she was here. I have been at Children's National for 10 years now, time flies! I always liked Jolie and although she may not fond memories of CNMC I have fond memories of her. She did a good job here, her only downfall was giving a few people to much trust. Does Ochsner do neo and pediatric ECMO? Gary said he was at Childrens. I'll ask him tomorrow when I go back to work. I have a co-worker who worked at Tulane about 10 years ago. Shelly Scheild. Also Kathy Regan worked at Tulane or Ochsner about 20 yrs ago. Did Authxpert get your attestment back to you yet? If so that was really quick. I pick my up this week. Abby, I am under the impression that my licensing is good to go but its my Visa that is not complete yet. I still have to pick up my attested documents from the Embassy in D.C. So ball is still in my court for a few more days. What country are you in? How weird is this!!! Small world or what? Yes I know Shelly!!! Kathy sounds familiar too! LOL. Ochsner does adult, peds and neo ECMO. I learned ECMO at Ochsner over 20 years ago. "Authxpert get your attestment back to you yet" Nope not yet. Abby86 yes they are doing my license. Said will probably take a month and then do Visa. Can't wait to meet everybody! bye:

I haven't heard that at all. In fact just the reverse. That I might be going in April or May. If Sidra wasn't opening until next year then why have me and others get all our paperwork done now? I was contacted by Sidra about one last thing to send to them just 12 hrs ago. And wouldn't that make the news? The Peninsula etc?

Thank you khokha2! Questions. Where did you exchange your money at for Riyals and how much did you bring with you? Can Americans use the international drivers license? I can get one of those if so. Drug stores/Pharmacies. Is it true you can get everything over the counter except for narcotics? Should I bring prescriptions from my Dr here in the states to give to the pharmacist(in Doha)? Is it hard to lease a car when you arrive? Or do I need my RP to do that? Can I bring an unlocked(my) Apple Plus 6 cell phone and use it in Qatar? Or should I just get one on arrival. Thinking of getting an account with Commercial Bank because they give you a cell phone when you use them. What bank do you use? Do you transfer money back to the states and is that ever an issue? Yes I have some questions don't I. But having an American who just moved a short time ago to answer my questions is great. Thank you.

Hi all. I have answered my provisional offer with a open end request for more monthly salary. Also asked a few questions to my recruiter. I will share the answers. :) Shifts? They are not able to confirm shift pattern at this point. This is the information we have received regarding shifts for RTs from the Recruitment Specialist- “The intent is to be 12 hour shifts however this has not been approved. Once a final decision has been made this will be communicated. There will be ‘Core Teams’. There still may be a need for rotating on a monthly basis.” Start date? They will not be mobilising anyone before March because of limited office space. The Hiring Manager is putting together a plan of how/when to stagger RTs. A general timeline to have in mind is 3-6 months from when you sign the Employment Agreement. Housing? You will be provided fully furnished accommodation. The building/complex you will be placed in won’t be confirmed until 2 weeks prior to you travelling due to availability. The accommodation provided isn't compound style- Sidra has acquired a number of buildings throughout Doha. Other Sidra employees will also live in the same accommodation. The accommodation is not shared- it will be solely yours. There is the option of opting out of the provided accommodation and receiving a housing allowance instead- however it is recommended to initially stay in the housing provided. Dress code? (I asked about scrubs) Dress code has not been confirmed for once the hospital is open. Prior to the hospital opening, the dress code for the office is-Dresses/skirts below the knee, trousers and blouses with a modest neckline and no less than half sleeve. Dresses, skirts, trousers and blouses must be of a professional style. Exit visa etc? The visa you will be issued in order to travel to Qatar to take up employment with Sidra is called a Permanent Work Visa and from the time it‘s issued, you have a six-month window in which to enter Qatar. From the date you enter Qatar, the visa is valid for six months, i.e. you can live and work in Qatar using this visa for six months. Within your first few weeks here we will submit application for your Residency Permit (RP) which is a renewable visa that permits you to live and work in Qatar. The RP usually takes 4-6 weeks to be obtained. Your work visa is a single entry visa only. This means it is considered cancelled once you exit Qatar. You can travel freely once you get your Qatar Residence Permit (RP), which should take about four to six weeks after you arrive into Qatar. If you need to leave for an emergency situation during this time, they can apply for a new visa for you to return back to Qatar. We know there are people working at Sidra but we don't know when it will open fully. Yes teething issues for sure.

I have a few questions. Got my provisional offer. To those that got there offers? Did you negotiate for more? Reading Arab Nursing Blog it says "To never and I repeat never accept the first offer". So what should I do? They matched my gross pay and gave a little more. "Fully furnished accommodation will be provided for yourself and eligible dependents in accordance with Policies and Procedures". Does this mean a compound? Is that a normal thing on your contract to be written like that? Anybody have experience with Sidra's housing? Should I ask for a monetary sum on the housing?

Good Morning Ladies! I'm getting ready to go to bed(night shift worker) and thought I would see how everyone is doing before nodding off. Hows the paperwork going LadyKathy? Abby86 are you closer to getting to Qatar/Sidra? anesthesiaA13 how did the re-negotiating go for your contract? Any new words of encouragement? Have all of you told the departments you work in now about leaving? My director and my co-workers know I'm doing this. They are all quite fascinated and some think I'm nuts. Lol. My director thinks it's a great idea to become debt free which is my objective(so I can retire at 65). Ok I just wanted to touch base and see how were all doing and keep in touch. I have learned so much from these forums and still am learning. Goodnight.

You have to understand how the GCC "works". Yes, if you say something the authorities approve of, you're going to be OK. But most new expats don't understand when they cross a line from OK to not allowed. Here's a link to the new Qatar Cyber Law which may help that understanding. http://www.amnesty.org/en/news/qatar-new-cybercrimes-law-endangers-freedom-expression-2014-09-18 Something as seemingly innocuous as ordering a nanny cam on line can get you deported (I know the couple personally). You are not allowed to photograph anyone without their permission. Various hand gestures given in frustration or aggravation can land you an interview and possible fines etc. with CID/Traffic department. Sharing information which SIDRA considers confidential on a public forum is extremely problematic. This is the GCC, different rules apply. WOW that is some serious cyber crimes law isn't it? Ok then. I get it. :(

Sorry RRTNICU, but you are not always anonymous on the internet. The amount of detailed information being shared on this thread would make it fairly easy for SIDRA to identify some posters. And don't fool yourselves that SIDRA as well as other employers (and the authorities) don't monitor forums like this. I imagine the latter has more to do with people on the ground not posting rather than a clause in their contracts. Of course I know that. This site can give people up if they want to. But I would like to hear the good things. And every company likes people to talk about the good things. Or say something about Qatar. It just would be nice to hear one person say anything about Sidra being open and that it looks cool as an example. That's pretty generic.

I know of someone moving in a few weeks. She has her ticket and date. Apparently they move people on Sunday, and work starts on Wed. This allows for a rest upon arrival and a short first workweek. Have known a few on here that have gone, but nothing from them since. I have also noticed that very active users of this site are never heard from again once they start work. I imagine that Sidra have a policy of "no social media". Maybe it is in the confidentiality forms that we all have to sign when we start a hospital job. Yes would love to hear about Sidra/Qatar now that you're there. You are anonymous on the internet and nobody knows who you are(if thats what you want). If you're worried then don't say anything bad just give us the good stuff. Inquiring minds want to know. So how is it?:)

From the IRS. Foreign Earned Income Exclusion If you meet certain requirements, you may qualify for the foreign earned income and foreign housing exclusions and the foreign housing deduction. If you are a U.S. citizen or a resident alien of the United States and you live abroad, you are taxed on your worldwide income. However, you may qualify to exclude from income up to an amount of your foreign earnings that is adjusted annually for inflation ($91,500 for 2010, $92,900 for 2011, $95,100 for 2012, and $97,600 for 2013). In addition, you can exclude or deduct certain foreign housing amounts. Limit on Excludable Amount The foreign earned income exclusion amount is adjusted annually for inflation. For tax year 2013, the maximum foreign earned income exclusion is up to $97,600 per qualifying person. If the individuals are married and both work abroad and meet either the bona fide residence test or the physical presence test, each one can choose the foreign earned income exclusion. Together, they can exclude as much as $195,200 for the 2013 tax year. Part Year Exclusion If you qualify under either the bona fide residence test or the physical presence test for only part of the year, you must adjust the maximum limit based on the number of qualifying days in the year. The number of qualifying days is the number of days in the year within the period on which you both: Have your tax home in a foreign country, and Meet either the bona fide residence test or the physical presence test. For this purpose, you can count as qualifying days all days within a period of 12 consecutive months once you are physically present and have your tax home in a foreign country for 330 full days. To figure your maximum exclusion, multiply the maximum excludable amount for the year by the number of your qualifying days in the year, and then divide the result by the number of days in the year. Physical Presence Test Under the physical presence test, a 12-month period can be any period of 12 consecutive months that includes 330 full days. If you qualify under the physical presence test for part of a year, it is important to carefully choose the 12-month period that will allow the maximum exclusion for that year. [b'>EXAMPLE[/b'>: You are a U.S. citizen, a bona fide resident of Country A, and working as a mining engineer. Your salary is $76,800 per year. You also receive a $6,000 cost of living allowance, and a $6,000 education allowance. Your employment contract did not indicate that you were entitled to these allowances only while outside the United States. Your total income is $88,800. You work a 5-day week, Monday through Friday. After subtracting your vacation, you have a total of 240 workdays in the year. You worked in the United States during the year for 6 weeks (30 workdays). The following shows how to figure the part for work done in the United States during the year. Number of days worked in the United States during the year (30) ÷ Number of days of work during the year for which payment was made (240) × Total income ($88,800) = $11,100. Your U.S. source earned income is $11,100. My husband is retired. <em>edited by RRTNICU on 16/11/2014</em>

Hello emnz. Good questions and patience seems to be the word. Yes when is Sidra opening? Last I heard March 2015? I am still waiting on the salary/employment agreement. On other forums I'm reading that they will hire us for January 2015 as the start up personnel. How much is any of this true? What's the scoop? I certainly can't quit and then find out it will be delayed. Yikes.;)

Hi Ladies, This thread has been very informative and helpful. Thank you all for your input and personal experiences :) My husband received a verbal offer a couple weeks ago, has submitted all the paperwork required- passports, degree, letter of good standing (they gave him a deadline of 10 days to submit it all) and will receive an official contract soon (I hope). Although no one at Sidra has told him this, my husband seems to think that, because he's a registered nurse, they won't want him over there until the hospital has officially opened. From what I've read here, they're sending staff over despite the hospital not being built- to work on admin tasks, policies, etc. Does anyone know more about this? Are there RNs who are now in Doha or heading there soon? I have a feeling we'd be over there sooner than when Sidra officially opens! Danielle Hi Danielle I am a registered nurse who was interviewed back in April, was offered a position two weeks after the skype interview, but only just received the Employment Contract end of September, which I have now signed. The recruitment agent advised that I will probably be heading over in January. I have very little information about the role, no start date nor when I need to send my attested Criminal Certificate over. It's pretty much just wait and see at the moment!!!! I have a feeling there is a lot to do prior to the official opening, including competency training and familiarisation of the new paper-less system. It's all pretty exciting - a bit of an adventure...so just persevere and I wish you and your husband all the best! Kind Regards Haley edited by PetkoNZ on 28/10/2014 Hi all! Thank you Haley and MBBRD. That's what I was told about going over there in January also. Im sure they will need to ramp up the staff for all the training we will have to do. We will be the first and have to train those that come behind us. So it makes sense to have us go "early" and to weed out the ones who decide it's not for them? So many questions. And so exciting to be in on the "First Wave" as it were. I am still waiting on salary info(have not done the contract yet)but they have all the other paperwork. Haley/MBBRD did you get an offer that is more than your gross pay(which for all of us would be logical) in the USA? Have read that the pay is very good and am asking because you're the first I've seen that have signed to go. So of course curious.;) And housing. How much is paid toward housing? Anyway I am being as patient as I can be. But I need to let my employer know with plenty of time as I'm a Supervisor and were coming up on November. Thank you. Maybe we will all get to work together and train together!!!!! Outstanding!

Wow what fabulous answers!!!!! Thank you XxNooniexX! Yes I'm a serious gamer. Great about Steam as I have over 50 games with them. I'm a huge RPG gamer but not W.O.W. Getting ready to play Middle Earth-Shadow of Mordor. I live in the USA. New Orleans Louisiana. I won't ship my computer. It is a Digital Storm custom built. An 18x18x18 UFO case. And LC with 11 fans. My keyboard is a Ducky Shine , mouse Red Dragon, monitor U3014, speakers Bose and they all stay. But I have no problem getting another system just for Qatar. Buying another system from Digital Storm would be a good idea and they can have the proper voltage. And I'm sure I could get it shipped for a lot of cost to Qatar. Sigh. My console I'm bringing. It's a Wii u with not a lot of games since I play PC games. And I can always buy another console system it looks like. Looks like Qatar is PAL. Also need to get some converters. khokha2 and XxNooniexX Thanks again!!! Wonderful that you responded. :) :)

One of my hobbies that I have had my whole life is games. Board Games, pinball, video games etc. I had a boutique computer company build my ultimate gaming computer. And I am a user of Steam with probably 50 games. So if any of you are "Gamers" can you answer some questions? ;) Can you use or do you use Steam in Qatar? How is the internet? How much more expensive is a gaming computer in Qatar then buying in the USA and shipping to Qatar? And buying a monitor, mouse, keyboard in Qatar. Just so you know. My system I use here in the USA I will not bring to Qatar. It is too massive and would end up broken im sure.
