If you are sponsored by your husband you can work under this sponsorship without any need to get a new one. I got this info from the website of Qatar University

Oh Great! Congrats! Yes, my Year One son will have his assessment in Sept. inshallah. I would love to meet with you when we are in Doha. Will you live in West Bay as well? BTW, I am Egyptian too but I have been in North America for long...I am gonna spend two months in Egypt before my arrival in Doha mid August :)

My Year 6 son has been accepted at Doha College. I hope they will consider the young one so I have both of them at the same school. I was worried about their moving from North American curriculum to a British one, but what I have heard about Doha College is very encouraging indeed.

Hi there, DC refused to do online assessment for my Year 1 son. We aren't in Doha yet, so they will do the assessment once we arrive by mid August

Dear all, We are moving to Doha in August but we are still struggling with kids schooling. We applied at 7 schools but got acceptance only from GMES, which we discovered later that it is far from West bay where we will live. My husband decided to make it to Doha next month to see if his being there will help with the school issue. What would you recommend him to do in this short visit? PLEASE ADVICE!!

My son did it online a month ago and still didn't hear from them about the results. I didn't make any preparation for it but my son (Grade 4) was so confident about doing well in it :)

@lalala: She said, "my husband would join me later in a few months" I believe you shouldn't have any problem at all with your signed contract for being pregnant.

Thanks Dina244! I really appreciate your feelings. My year one son is still waiting for updates from DC as they told us the same thing...that we will hear from them about his status in March. The assessment is confirmed for my year 6 son in March but no definite time yet. Let's stay in touch...and hopefully we meet in Doha in August :)

Thanks emma123! It isn't regular for DC to have online assessment for prospective students from outside Doha or what? Should I consider it a good sign that they are interested in accepting my kids :) Thanks again!

Thanks a lot happy_feet! It seems that we will go with GMES at least for the first year. GMES asked us to pay Seat Reservation fees around QR7000 for both kids...we expected that all fees can be paid upon our arrival in August. We also applied at Doha College, but based on what other members say here our chances are so limited since they have a long waiting list. Moving is really a hectic but I can't wait to be in Doha in August and start our new adventure :)

Thanks happy_feet! I just got an offer from GEMS but your message made me think again about it, especially that they asked us to pay 3500 QR for each kid to reserve their seats. Pearling is still far from where we will live but of course much closer than GEMS. I am not sure if Pearling is using the American or British curriculum and I couldn't locate any info in this regard at their website..We would prefer North American curriculum. Do you have any info in this regard?

Thank you JillMV! This is very helpful and encouraging. I will definitely contact them and see what options do they have for us whether carpooling or school buses

This means that transportation to school might be a big deal :( I am worried that this might be the only option for my kids this coming year. Won't it be possible that we hire a taxi to make it on a daily basis? Also, we might have neighboring kids at the same school close by so we can share the cost? I am not sure...I am just trying to find a way out if we ended up with GEMS as the best and only option we might have

Thanks tulip327! Yes, I submitted applications at Doha College but based on what I read here in the forum, we have very low chance to get spots for our kids

Thanks again for your response. Do you have any recommendation for kids coming from Canadian schools? especially those that are in the West Bay area and might have spots available for grade 5 and senior KG. Thanks!

Dear marycatherine, Thanks for your kind and informative reply. I have been trying to reach Choueifat staff for a month now...so it was before the holiday season. An Arab friend here in Canada who lived in Doha three years ago told me that her kids got admitted to QCS, and they are not Canadians. She was happy with the school and its teachers, however, she felt bad about the school size and lack of facilities...she told me that this might ave changed as the school got new administration and they are keen on solving out all problems...so I wanted some update from virtual friends in Doha. Anyone has kids there?

Hi, I am moving from Canada as well but in September 2015. With regard to shipping a container, I made a heavy search and found this one from Toronto the cheapest in the market: Technology Exporter Ltd 3620-B Laird, Toronto, ON L5L 6A8 Tel. 416-399-5522 I am going to accompany my husband from day 1, and as Myriam said, since I don't work, I will take care of the kids and make sure that the whole family is well-settled from day one. All the best with your move and hope we can catch up in Doha next year :)

May be you've got to weigh up if you've got the money to buy all new stuff. Otherwise and if you are only talking about a few boxes I have heard that Container-Shipping.com will ship these over for you at a reasonable cost. Here is their link (http://www.container-shipping.com/qatar/shipping-from-us-to-qatar.html?ref=111&gclid=Cj0KEQiAhvujBRDUpomG5cq_mI0BEiQA7TYq-h0HJY4k0prrmObSGJmbeoUp43zsrTRtZaFyZSUimCIaAv0N8P8HAQ)

I just applied for my next year 5th grade son. Do they require this online test from all students at all levels? How long did it take them after you submitted the application to schedule the test? Thanks!

Do we need to have any docs other than a formal contract from the employer when we apply at any school? The employer will work on our visa etc. three months before our arrival, which means around May, 2015. DC seems a good option but I checked on the map and it is a bit far from where we will live...we can use their bus or a taxi to get kids there. I will check their website and see if they are currently accepting applications. Anyone has an idea about their fees for KG and Grade 5? Thanks

Thanks. My husband has been told by his employer that Choueifat is the closest international school to where we will live and that it welcome submissions by February of next year, as the applications start being assessed in March 2015. All the forms and information is on their admissions page and any entrance examinations can be taken at any Choueifat or SABIS premises globally. Anyone has her kids at Choueifat? How is the school reputation?

Thanks for your feedback. We will live close to the intersection of Al Khafji St. and Lusail St. So, which good schools are close by? Also, I thought school applications are starting in Jan. and last till April or so? If the deadline is end of December or early Jan. then I have to act ASAP.

I see. We should think about it then. I am still looking for any tips of help with regard to schooling. I have Qatar Canadian School, Doha College, ACS Doha and American School of Doha on my list and would appreciate any feedback forum members have on the first two i.e. Qatar Canadian School, Doha College and if you have information on whether there are potentially openings at any of these schools for children going into Grade 5 and senior KG in September for the 2015-16 school year. Thanks! edited by expat1983 on 01/12/2014

Thanks for your response. Do you mean that they might reject our exportation of the car due to some inspection of the AC? Our car, an American made, does have AC in a perfect condition.
