Marina is the place I would say..but not anymore as there aren't any more of their traditional old wood style pieces. A lot of mechanical and grunge in there now. I've seen a lady exhibit in Times Square...when park in the basement and go to take the travalator to level G... Her stuff I all around that space. Also I'm selling my old look grungy trunk/chest from marina. Not sure if ur after that sort of thing but u can check it out on dubizzle and I'm just going to go and post it here in classifieds too. Link for dubizzle is here: http://dubai.dubizzle.com/classified/furniture-home-garden/furniture/cabinets-cupboards/2015/1/17/lovely-storage-trunkchest-from-marina-2/ Thanks for that, I'll check it out too :)

Thanks Sam7, Pity about the Village but I guess there are better plans depending when all the work for that begins! Do you like living there? You don't find it too far from anywhere? And is the pool and park nice?

I'm glad I noticed this thread as Ive been meaning to get a couple of moles checked for ages and keep forgetting!! Do I just make an appointment with the GP at GMC who then refers to a specialist or did you see a specialist to begin with and pay the 600 for the first 10?

I know this is a tough age but it doesn't last long. My baby is leaving home soon to go to Uni, every time I look at her I see her as a little girl. I wish I could get those cuddly years back. Cuddles are the best :)

The same thng happened with three of my children, I solved it by putting them in to a big bed. They all took about a week to settle but no problems after that. Did they climb out the bed? I was hoping not to have to think about big beds for ages yet haha! She's just turned 1 x

Hi, I remember your older posts! You should maybe try the MOE coffee morning, the weather is so much better so you could walk to get metro to the mall if you still aren't driving? X It's fine getting metro with the baby as Ive done it before many times. edited by cafelatte on 15/12/2014 Or just noticed there us on e today in Dubai mall, which is walking distance. edited by cafelatte on 15/12/2014

Thank you all for your replies. I think possibly it's going to be a waiting game and get whatever experience I can in the mean time then. I might consider a teaching role, what are the schools/education system like? My current school is extremely challenging with students swearing, kicking off and most not having any respect for their own education let alone staff. SOOO many schools! I think it would definitely be worth your while checking it out.

I find it bugs if I click on a thread then need to scroll to search for the OP question/comment - this way it's easier to see what someone's asking and decide if you want to reply ( like I just did) :) Might have been wiser to post a new thread with the info in this case, the original Q&A were over a year ago. What? Confused Look at the Marital testing thread, someone replied to a very old post. Sorry, didn't mean that you had replied on it! Ah ok I get you

Good luck. These roles DO exist. There are a lot of very wealthy families here who are not simply looking for a cheap Asian worker. That's very racist and rude comment your Highness !!!! edited by rose717 on 11/12/2014 hmm I'm not so sure - western nanny's are more expensive to hire, it's as simple as that really. There are positions available, I've met a couple of western live in nanny's/au pairs. But what others have said is right, the majority of live in nanny's are paid what the going rate is for their nationality, that's just the way it is in Dubai... and I'm not meaning to be rude, just saying how it is. You seem very qualified and I wish you luck in your search. It might be worth moving here as a teacher and then that way you could test the water and put some feelers out for being a live in nanny?

Glad you didn't get hurt.. There are so many accidents in Dubai. Big or small it's still a scary thing to go through, shame there are so many imbeciles on the road! It would be annoying not being able to explain but as said, the police see accidents all the time so were probably going through the motions. Plus you got the Green slip so the police understood you weren't in the wrong. Stay safe people x

Congratulations! I was the same when I found out I was pregnant as I didn't have a GP here. A friend of mine had already seen Dr Rav at American Hospital but she wasn't available so I made an appointment with Dr Braithwaite and she was great. As I was just 6 weeks when I went first I had to pay for my appointment because my insurance didn't cover the hospital maternity package until 11 weeks, but I didn't care I was just happy to see everything was ok and felt more relaxed as I'd found a good OB. It is different here, as I didn't meet my midwife until I was admitted and you need to pay for antenatal classes separately. I saw Cecile de Scally for my classes which were very good and included in the antenatal package was a home visit after the baby is born which was also very helpful. I couldn't fault American Hospital or Cecile. Good luck x

Sounds a bit extreme but you can call the police and they help! Never done it, I've always phoned roadside assistance as it just seems a bit odd to phone the police ... However I know a couple of ladies who have and the police are very helpful ?

You can't really be peeved for something that was your own fault. Emirates ID is an ID we all need to have so like my passport I need to make sure I don't lose it. Has nothing to do with making money on every corner, if you don't lose it you don't have to replace it. Of course you can! It's just even more annoying when having to pay unnecessary fines because of something you did...... ? makes you even more peeeeved with yourself and with the systems put in place here! *and relax*

This is so sad. So sad to think of this baby scared, hungry, in pain and wanting his mum. So sad to think that in this day and age some women have no support and feel there is no other option but to do something like this. Happens all the time - heartbreaking x edited by cafelatte on 26/11/2014

In the past I've found it better to talk with a maid face to face as I know of some who can't read English or can't read English very well, it's easier to speak to them. Even if you are in the first time so you can meet them and see how they work.. I'm sure Helping Hand Maid agency don't have a minimum time. edited by cafelatte on 26/11/2014
