I was absolutely horrified walking past a petshop in JLT yesterday called petshop.ae. Its the worst I have seen in Dubai. The puppies for sale are getting big and everyone of them were sleeping, no life at all. This is because they are given mild sedatives to keep them calm in front of possible new owners. - - True story!

According to the rules and regulations of the country, they are not allowed to re-serve anything... so my guess is into the bin it goes (if the staff are not allowed to partake).

I would strongly disagree about your comments on the 2 day weekend. I do not know anyone in my large circle of contacts in Dubai who don't have 2 days off. These are people who work in both local and MNCs. The exception would be people who work in retail and hospitality don't have the standard weekend specific days off. Maybe its different in your circle of friends...... And of course some people choose to catch up on some emails/paperwork on a Saturday morning but in reality the majority of people are off Friday and Saturday. This has nothing to do with 'your circle of "contacts"' or 'my circle of friend', so lets not make it personal. This is purely a Labor Law statement. As mentioned in the other post about maids, only government/semi-government are required to give their staff 2 days off. Private businesses and domestic workers only get 1 day. This also applies to public holidays -- private businesses, maid services etc.. often dont get to enjoy the days off that the government businesses do based on the declarations of the government as each holiday nears. I have yet to find a family with a live-in maid in Abu Dhabi who gives their maid 2 days off... I guess maids are more spoiled in Dubai. We may have to agree to disagree.

I personally had rejections from maids in dubai just because im not British or Europian and i wouldn't give them 2 days off. I had demands starting the moment they walked into my house. Without listening first what i have to offer. Just because they've worked in dubai for couple of years doesnt mean that they have to demand and have an attitude like most of them do. I wont be able to handle the arrogance in my house because i have 4 other staff and they are not like that. Its hard to find decent, loyal and humble staff in dubai. While I understand the plight of domestic workers trying to get better deals and using the ban to do so, it really bothers me that most of them have started to be down right arrogant and demanding. For the record and according to the UAE Labor Law, private businesses (yes that includes all domestic workers as well) are required to give ONLY one day off. Government businesses may give their employees 2 days off. No maid can legally demand 2 days off. Maybe this is ok in their country (although I have been infomred that this is not the case), but not here.

am i being cheap at 2000 plus benefits, and the normal visa, ticket home yearly, weekly off etc.. No, you are not being cheap! The minimum salary according to the governement is 1500, anything more than that is at your discretion. I personally think 2500 is overpriced for someone who only cleans and does laundry. If they are taking care of your kids and helping cook as well, then yes, you may want to pay a bit more.. or at least tip. 2 days off is exorbant and most people who work at other jobs in even the most prestegious companies don't have that luxury!

I quit cold turkey as well and I was a HEAVY smoker mind you.. My biggest hinders at the time were alcohol (you always want to smoke more when drinking) and depression, stress or exhaustion. The more active I kept myself especially on the weekends, the less time I had to think about wanting to smoke. Good luck and well done on making the decision to quit!

Honestly speaking, I would rather be safe than sorry. Your sons blatent distain for her may have resulted from something that happened when you were not around. I would get a nanny cam as soon as I could just to be on the safe side. Then, if you find out that there is no issue and your son is just being, well, a 2 year old, you can deal with it from that angle with peace of mind.

Just be careful when posting nanny/maid requirements on EW. I've had a very unfriendly experience with a guy named Hassan from HRT Exports who began stalking my facebook and wouldn't stop sending harassment e-mails. I had to have DH call him yesterday to threaten him if he e-mailed me again! There are some real creapers out there who have access to want adds on EW.

Yes, they are expected to but they are also happy to. The uniforms are very nice and comfortable and the reasoning behind it is often times their own personal clothes are either very frumpy or very tight and revealing which is not acceptable to the employers. Like I said, it's up to the discression of your employers. You make it sound like a bad thing that 'people' know the maid is not an immediate part of the family. Being a maid is employment where you get a monthly salary. Many people who have jobs wear uniforms depending on the discression of their company and this isn't considered surprising or derogatory in any way. However, if you object to wearing a uniform I'm sure there are plenty of employers who wouldn't expect you to wear one.

To add, you only have to see news stories from the last couple of years and see in general the nationalities maids are abused by, to understand why they would be wary of working for some people and want to steer clear. It's a really sad situation, but people have to understand, that how they treat their employees can be turned into a stereotype and be damaging for everyone else. True, but it also goes both ways! Most of the time my MIL and her family have had Philipina maids, then we tried a different nationality when the last maid (who was with her for 14 years) wanted to return to her home to retire. That new nationality was sooo lazy, always complaining of aches and pains when she didn't want to do her duties, then ran away and was found working in a night club.. ahem! So of course we would never higher that nationality again.. based off of experience. However, not all white foreigners treat their maids right either! I am American but a friend of mine (also a female American) would constantly shout at her maids over every little thing, where as my MIL (local) would never dream of doing such a thing and treats all her maid with kindess and respect. Another incident is that of an aquaintance (a British gentlemen) of DH who would repeatedly sleep with his maid against her will when he was drunk which we ended up having to report. So, all that to say is it depends on the person. edited by sharoniouz on 08/04/2015

I've just recieved an e-mail from him... and I qoute "i found ur facebook pics.. they are all nice!" Not only did he contact me from an add I placed on a 'womans' site, but now he is stalking my facebook!?!?! How he even knows what my real name is (my e-mail address used is the same as my profile name here) and was able to find me on facebook is beyond creepy!!! So I wanted to warn all you ladies to steer clear of a guy named Hasan

It's usually up to the descretion of your employer. My MIL lets the our housemaid wear whatever she feels comfortable wearing in the house. If they go out for food shopping or family outings she is expected to wear her uniform.

The price is steep but just factor it into your price. I sold mine within a week so it was worth it. EW Classifieds unfortunately did not generate any interest. Agreed! Items go fast on Dubizzle.. more so than any other site I've advertized with. I think they do that to keep scammers away. You'll see other UAE sites that are rife with scammers and a real frustration when you're looking to purchase something.

Bump... Finally got to catch up on all that happened since my last reading... OMG!! I am in a fit of laughter!! In my attempt to figure out what kind of person MF582 is I decided to recap some of her (his?) classic lines. [b'>A phone is like a vacuum cleaner, it's a necessity of life. It's not a special gift that says "I love you more than money [/b'> I guess the gift of the latest model is too cheap for a gold digger like you [b'>and showing my husband your responses [/b'> Classic case of bratty kid "I'm gonna tell my daddy on you" I wonder if you were picked on when you were a kid because you've definately got a complex. Seems as tho you're all about the bling and when someone doesn't share your same greed you try to dish it out to them. Unfortunately you cant take the dishing when it comes back to you, so you use your DH as a threat? :)) Cute! [b'>Some of you have been particularly rude towards me, and don't think i'll forget it when we become the toast of the town this fall.[/b'> What exactly do u plan on becoming in 'this town'? When we say 'you're toast' it's never a good thing. [b'>I used to be like you and say "don't get me anything, the whole thing is ridiculous" . Then i'd have to endure all the phone calls from my sisters, friends and neighbors describing what they received and the questions about why I received nothing and the state of our marriage.[/b'> Sorry to hear that you, your friends and family are so shallow and base the state of your marriage on material things! Time to start surrounding yourself with grown-ups. [b'>What about "END OF SUBJECT" don't you people understand?[/b'> *Giggle!!!* Do u REALLY think that people will stop replying just because you said 'End of Subject'? Wow! You must be really spoild and used to getting your way with EVERYTHING! [b'>Jealousy, the worst of human emotions. And you sir, are living proof of that![/b'> Definately an inferiority complex coming out there.. [b'>Sorry, call me crazy, but I just can't understand how your husband overloading you corn with butter and salt makes you happy? I need more[/b'> Yes, we've all come to that realization. You are a sad materialistic person who has married for money. Reminds me of a childhood friend who did the same thing. Her husband would buy her expensive things that she would constantly boast about and show off. If others didn't oooh and awww over it she would berate them for being jealous because she had such a perfect life with a perfect husband who would do whatever she wanted and they couldn't handle her farytale story... all the while the real story was that he was a big time cheater, and knew her week point (expensive gifts) so would keep her busy by buying her those things while he was porking every girl and their sister. She kept trying to convince herself that he actually loved her because he bought her expensive things. Sad and deluded... and you my dear, sound just like her.

Lalala: LOL! Rmohamed: I prefer a live-in to a live-out. Have had problems with live-outs regarding theft and missing items. Best experience so far has been with Indonesians & Philipinas (but make sure you clearly lay down your expectations for Philipina's as they tend to get too familiar and can be lazy at times). Steer cleer from Ethiopian maids as we had a runaway (who the police found working in a night club when we reported her disappearance) that was always complaining about misterious body pains... head, stomach, back etc...

Ours uses the family kitchen. She is a full-time, live-in maid who is treated as one of the family (with guidelines and bounderies of course) and eats the same food that we do. Pretty much every live in maid I know[b'> only[/b'> has their private room and bathroom (like the rest of the family memebers) which is their personal space. I think it's a little much for the maid to be demanding a seperate kitchen when none of the other family members have one. Makes me wonder what will she be asking for next?!

Newdubaimomma & Pokahantas, I'm so happy for you. Praying that all goes well througout the entire pregnancy/delivery. You must be so excited  Klj1702: You may want to look into the transfer of your eggs to another clinic to complete the treatment. I belive you can and should if you don't feel at ease in your current clinic or like you're not receiving answers to your questions. I would definately want to be able to trust my doctor or rest assured that I am in good hands especially when it comes to people messing with my internal organs.

Did you get married in the UAE? Do you have any proof of abuse? If so, you have the upper hand right there. If you present the police report (obtained at any government hospital once they check your body for bruises and other evidence of violence) you have the right to open a case against him and have him thrown in jail immediately! I'm guessing that will definately = loss of power for him..

You have to clearly state what you need his help for every time you need it. I used to do everything and then grumble about it and be in a bad mood. When DH would ask me why I'm upset and I would tell him becuase he's not helping me out, his reply would be "why didn't you ask me then?" So I learned my lesson and ask him to help with the dishes or take the dog for a walk while I clean up the mess he accidentally made (our dog is still a small pup), or feed him his medicine. If he complains about it, I just remind him that it's better than me being in a bad mood. :P

I will probably cause more of a stir now by saying that I think some of the 'bullying' comments on here are really not very pleasant. The OP may be 'showing off' but in all honesty some of you folks need to take a step back from this **********. If folks want to celebrate VD with lavish gifts then lucky them, if you do not celebrate then that is fine too but to slag each other off is not necessary. For the OP we had a bottle of bubbles in the desert at sunset, totally chilled. ;) so when I make a joke about not being a size 8 it's ok for her to say that's why I didn't get anything for Valentine's Day ? Agree with DT. The only [b'>actual[/b'> bullying done in this thread is by MoonFlower! edited by sharoniouz on 16/02/2015

Praying8: I think the prolonged pain may be my body's way of saying it doesn't like general anesthesia as I got really bad heart burns after my laproscopic surgery due to an ectopic pregnancy. Yes that's right, you do have to go in on the second day of your cycle and they check to see how strong your injections should be (as they don't want to overstimulate you) and do the first round on the same day. Newdubaimomma: I cant wait to hear the results from your egg retrieval! They were able to retrieve 7 of mine but only 5 were mature. Hoping to use them later in the year... fingers crossed.

Yes, it's very possible that you are preggers. If you're only one day late, it's probable that it wont show clearly. Give it another day or so and test again. Of course do it first thing in the morning before you eat or drink anything for better results.

Of course you are sedated during the actual retrieval, but it was the recovery that was quite painful for me to the point that I had to take pain killers. I couldn't sit properly and had a very hard time using the bathroom for over a week after. I don't want to scare you with pain stories, but I wish I had been told about it so I knew what to expect. I guess I have been blessed with relatively light or no cramps ever during my cycles and haven't given birth yet, so I had nothing to compare it off of.

I froze my eggs at Fakih Clinic in AD. My doctor started out as Dr. Fakih but then I changed to Dr. Monica who was much more informative and caring than Dr. Fakih (sorry, but I didn't really get a good vibe off of him. Maybe it's because he was so busy with non stop patients or it could be because I only completed half the cycle so they couldn't charge my insurance the full amount for IVF, ha!). You'll go through the same process as I did but continue after the egg retrieval -- which is the most painful part of the whole process... well, other than delivery. The shots aren't too bad (first one is the worst) and you'll get used to all the blood tests. I believe for a first timer you will be expected to join the little seminar that they have every Tuesday. That'll give you a clearer picture of the whole process. Most importantly: Don't be afraid to ask any question you have! If you don't ask, they will think you already know everything. I developed BV (an imbalance of vaginal bacteria) during the process because my body reacts badly to latex (used to cover the internal ultra sound machine) and other instruments being inserted 'down there' and that freaked me out, but Dr. Monica was able to take care of it all.

Thanks for all your concern on how I should treat my pup (if I can find one), however I would not be looking for one if I had never had experience owning, training, and taking good care of it. My place is very well set up for any type of dog (with an outside airconditioned house if it's a German Shephered or in my own house if it's a bulldog or pug). FairyDust, thank you for the websites. However, as mentioned I am looking for a specific type and breed. I've looked up K9 Friends already but still remain firm about my decision for a pedigree pup.
