coffeebreak, if you type in "kalba border post" and then choose the option Oman Border Post, it will bring it up. It is right over on the Oman coastline - about a 2hr drive.

I took some people to Hatta today - we were turned away and sent to the Kalba Border Station. I'm not sure when/how/why the Hatta crossing was closed, but it seems it's not the first time in recent times. Check that before you set off - it's much quicker to go to Kalba via Emirates Road/Sharjah than to Hatta first!

dindin I have similar hair, long but fine and thin. I recently got tape (sticker) extensions at The Dollhouse in Jumeirah Ladies Club. I'm pretty happy with them although the placement isn't perfect - with my hair being so fine, the tape of the top extensions can sometimes be visable. I'll get them to put them a bit further under next time. They also sold me a packet that I didn't need (I bought 4 and really only needed 3). When I go back, I will see a different girl, Arica. I have found her to be really good. Better than the girl who put them in initially. ETA: I have also used the clip in ones before and found that they can slip quite a bit given the nature of my hair. I'm much happier with the tapes. I just wash my hair as normal, although you have to have sulphate free shampoo. The tapes are reusable - once they start growing out, you return to the salon, they soak the adhesive off and pull them out without damage. They then clean them, put on new adhesive and stick them back on at the roots of the hair. My hair is thicker, longer and no one knows I didn't grow it myself!! HTH :)

barlas when I started having difficulty with my son, he was only 4 years old. I asked myself the same question and decided I'd rather see a psychologist and be told we're wasting our time, than to get a year or so down the track and wish I had started when I first had doubts. Four years later, we have been to see a great number of therapists (psychologists, psychiatrists etc..) and I can honestly say, the people at Camali Clinic (Healthcare City) have blown every other experience away. Dr Amber Sadiq, the practice lead is amazing, as are her support team. My son responded very positively to Dr Amber and to therapy with Adam (I know they have another male therapist there as well). They have a holistic approach and discuss each case as a team to determine the best treatment. They have restored my faith.

An Endocrinologist prescribed Reductil for me - I hated it. Racing heart/pulse. Jittery hands. No thank you. I stuck with it for a couple of months and yes, I lost about 7kgs but as soon as I stopped taking them, my appetite returned (surprise, surprise), so I was unable to maintain the VLCD he had me on.

Sorry to go off track... but yes, some of the language used is hilarious. I've started jotting the best ones down. How about: "A paradoxical blend of personal humility and professional will" "it is submitted with profound veneration" "overwhelming experience' The list goes on...! Back to the OPs question, agree with the others, keep it to your usual format - maybe do a 'health' check using the book kitten67 suggests or online help guides. Make sure the font is professional, there are no typos and finally no grammatical errors. It will be just fine.

I would love to get my hands on some kefir grains if you don't mind sharing the contact please? Or, if yours propagate (and they do quite quickly)! Are they WKG or MKG? My preference is for WKG. I'm happy to buy or swap for some kraut - I make my own :)

Actually ladies, it's not that unusual at all. Many, many, many candidates - here, in the UK and Australia, 'change' their name to more Western sounding names. In some cases it's to make pronunciation easier. Even Western names are 'changed' Francesca might be known as Fran. Even my own Father, although Roberto, is called Alan - if you called out to him as Roberto, he wouldn't turn around. I have known a Poh called Paul, Harikrishnan who calls himself Harry, the list goes on. No need to get all a-flutter! It's quite different to falsifying a work history. I've been doing this for 20 years and wouldn't bat an eyelid if it came up. Edited to add: I am in no way suggesting you give up your identity or Nationality. That was not the intention of my suggestion AT ALL. I'm sorry if you (or others) interpreted it that way. Not sure what else I can say really. Was just trying to help.

lily5k please don't be discouraged. I think that sadly, this is the experience for many job seekers. I'm a recruiter and looking for a job at the moment - I left two messages for a consultant on a Talent Acquisition Manager role and she still hasn't called me two weeks later. So it even happens to me :) You didn't mention what your profession is, but I imagine that generally, being African does not enter the equation. If you are qualified and have good experience, that's key. Keeping in mind there may be hundreds (yes, hundreds) of others vying for the same role. I recently interviewed an African lady for a senior post in our company and when I mentioned that there would be an assessment for verbal/English comprehension, she went funny on me. I think that it offended her. Little did she realise that the week previously, we had an Australian lady do the same assessment. It's just part of our process. She blew the interview after that because her attitude became quite stroppy. So, maybe, hopefully, it is not about the fact you're African. As an experiment, change your name on your CV to a very Western sounding one and see if your hit rate improves. As a positive-negative, I hope it doesn't :) Good luck, keep cracking on. I've been at it for a month without any success myself!

Such a difficult balance to find. Have you thought about going self employed so you can work full time but during the hours that suit you? I work for travel counsellors and we are recruiting at the moment. If you have a passion for travel you can train to become a self employed travel consultant, working from home. Have a look online at the website. I hope you find something suitable soon. Good luck! Thanks EdinburgerInDubai - that sounds appealing. Would you please share the website address? I guess I should shout out to any Marketing Managers who are looking for flexible/possibly part time (school) hours as well. Even though it's the job I want!! There's always threads about the lack of part time and flexible work - goes to show, it does exist!

DXB AGAIN - I think you stole the alias I originally wanted :lol::lol: Thank you, good points. I'm a recruiter and it's going back into a management position, yes it sounds exciting, I love what they do but... you're right, I just don't know if the extra income outweighs my desire to be around for the children when they get in. The logistics are easily solved, there is a school bus service and our nanny is a very competent driver - she already does the morning drop off on days I work from home. It's really just trying to guess what, if any, impact it will have on the kids. At the moment I can take off at a moment's notice, I won't be able to do that if I'm full time. I just spoke to my boss now and he alluded to possibly keeping me on, hopefully I will know in the next couple of days. If only they would hire me as their marketing manager, that would be mischief managed!!

Something does not add up for me. The whole story seems to be a made-up one, to be honest. I cannot comprehend that a Western woman can be bossed around like that ("I have to wear an abaya" she says) and she is just ok with her husband cheating on her and has no one back home to help her. Is she an orphan, does she have no friends and family whatsoever, where did she live before moving to Dubai that suddenly she has nothing left in her home country? Sorry, but the whole story seems just wrong. Berberis, she mentioned in one of her posts that she's a refugee... Although not where from. Regardless, many women are in relationships where they are manipulated and controlled. Sometimes they don't even realise that it's happening, until it's way down the line. Do people really go to the trouble of making these things up though?? It may not seem to add up, but that doesn't make it fabricated?!

My husband bought my 'push ring' at Cara and we've since taken many visitors. We went away for 5yrs and Kiran still remembered me when we came back. Once I lost a stone from my wedding band, so he took me out the back to the workshop, made me a cup of tea and they replaced it in front of me. No charge. Highly recommend them.

My only suggestion is ask everyone you know... and everyone they know!! I have a school hours job and I work from home 2 days - I got it through a friend (I'm working as an in-house recruitment manager). It's not likely to be something that you see advertised. I would also recommend Irwin & Dow as recruiters, they seem very professional. And as a recruiter, my other suggestion would be to ring and follow up every application, it makes it harder for them to overlook you :) I wish I could be more helpful... I am actually looking for a part-time Marketing Manager at the moment, but needs to be someone with up to the minute digital marketing experience, sorry :)

Angelfish79 did she say why you need the injections? I have never heard of it. My sister and I both have pretty full-on PCOS and have had 5 successful pregnancies between us. Never any mention of having injections. Mine were IVF/ICSI pregnancies, so you'd think if there was any need for injections to support a pregnancy, I would have had it! You're definitely doing the right thing getting a second opinion.

It was GEMS Wellington Primary School. Please tell me that it's a good thing anyway?!! Guinnes2, thanks for those suggestions. I have one of the new schools in Al Barsha that has places. Will see what happens once we apply. I'll try the other schools at that end of town as well as the IB schools with fees we can afford, then EIS/Regent, then American Curriculm... in that order! Nothing against American Curriculum, I just feel it's a little too far 'removed' from us (I trust that makes sense?!).

Well, that's all positive feedback and good advice, thank you. I was quite taken aback when I received the email - how ridiculous! Nearly every Australian child that relocates to Dubai faces the same situation. I'm wondering if they picked up that my son HAD behavioural issues last year and they don't want to deal with that. Even though they wouldn't be as he attended an external program that basically dealt with those issues. To me it is more detrimental that they spend an hour commuting to/from school each day vs. catching up on curriculum. And at their young ages, there's not too many algebra formulae they've missed right?! Will crack on with things on Sunday and hopefully get somewhere with the IB schools. pollydxb1 fees at JBS are 65,000 per child. Eeeeek!!! That's just crazy for us as newbees with all the other set up costs we'll have. Dang, we should never have left the first time... or the second :oD

Thanks Ladies, I guess this is why I feel so stressed! I just don't see Sharjah as an option. The commute (from Al Manara or thereabouts) will be a killer. I'm hoping to work, so drop off & pick up would be hard to do. I'm reluctant to put them on a bus unless it's <30 mins. I looked at IB in the beginning too, however the fees are a killer. Feel like I'm between a rock and a hard place!

LOL Guinness2, good to know!! However, we wanted to go British Curriculum as it's more familiar to us and looking at our plans long term thought it would be best. I suppose we could look at switching them at some point in the future, but I'd rather them have continuity. I'm a bit overwhelmed with everything at the moment TBH :o(

Thanks so much for sharing your experiences ladies. I've looked closer again today - not late at night with a fuzzy brain! And I think she must have thought I was talking about starting in September 2015. I don't know. It just doesn't make sense. As of August this year DS was 6 and DD 5. So that would mean, they would have started the school year in September 2014 in Grades 2 and 1 respectively. I don't see why it would jump a year because we're starting in second term. I'll email the Registrar today and see if I can clear it up. Meanwhile, I have had another school confirm that they have places and they've said Grades 2 and 1 based on their ages. Thanks again! Very helpful info :o)

salsB, we were offered it in previous years/moves 2005 & 2009 but now, for exactly the reasons you say, they're not advancing anything. We closed our bank account when we left, so will need to open new. Not a huge fan of HSBC - so looking at Citibank or Lloyds this time.

Nemesia, I definitely agree with Doubting Thomas - get out to some coffee mornings. I did this when I arrived (the first time!) and although I didn't make any lasting friendships, everyone I met was kind and inclusive. If you have a mall in walking distance, I'd suggest putting bub into the buggy and doing laps of the mall. It will get you out and gently introduce you to a small part of Dubai. I now know Burjuman like the back of my hand!! One thing about Dubai is that nearly everyone you meet (at least in my experience) is warm and welcoming. Meeting new people and making new friends is so much easier than 'home', because everyone has been in the same boat. Having a small baby is also a blessing, you will have the 'key' to join any one of a number of wonderful Mother & Baby groups!! Good luck :oD

So helpful, thank you all. And for the link WhiteOrchid, more or less what I had pictured. We had a discussion last night about downsizing and squeezing into one of the more modern apartments w private garden somewhere like Downtown. It really would be such a squash and a squeeze, we'd have to get rid of so many things, including bicycles ;o( It's just not practical. Fingers crossed we can find a low cost villa near Umm Seqeim etc.. what we lose on the swings we'll make up on the round about!! Thanks again ladies (and gentlemen if that should be the case)!

Take her to Dr Carol Smiley at Mirdiff polyclinic, or one of the other recommended GP’s posted on here. She may need some diagnostics, a qualified experienced GP will know how to help. Have you also considered she may be overtired and not getting enough sleep and therefore when she does sleep, sleeps very deeply? The other issue could be stress. Does the bed wetting come and go? There are many questions that need to be asked and you need the help of a good medical professional to rule out whether it is just a physical issue or a psychological one or just an issue she will grow out of. Many children wet the bed for years and then just stop, but it sounds as if you good do with some proper advice. I would [b'>avoid looking at diet[/b'> and quackery, its unproven baloney. If you look hard enough you can find a million and one reasons why this is happening and [b'>there will be someone out there who will sell you something to cure it.[/b'> Whilst the issue is a pain for all, it is something that is not that unusual so do not feel you are alone. Reviewing ones diet is not quackery and costs nothing! Our diet is often the root cause of a broad range of health issues. To suggest someone avoids it??!! I'm quite literally gobsmacked - and that doesn't happen very often.

Hey jasmine4, have you looked at her diet?? I used the Failsafe diet to identify triggers for behavioural issues, but it works for any number of things. Take a look: http://fedup.com.au/factsheets/symptom-factsheets/bedwetting It's not a long term solution (at all), more of an identifier of food intolerances that can cause bedwetting. Most people who do the Failsafe Diet, will progress to the GAPS (Gut and Psychology Syndrome) Diet. Then again, many will straight up start with GAPS. It looks at healing the gut and with that, the intolerance that causes x problem. A quick google search on bedwetting & GAPS gives this info: Bed wetting 1. Enuresis (bed-wetting) and polyuria (excessive urination) are common concerns of parents before GAPS and seem to increase during the early stages of GAPS. Please comment. Please, read my article on Food Allergy which explains this issue in detail. Urine is one of the venues for toxins to leave the body. Abnormal gut flora produces a lot of toxins, which are excreted in urine. This toxic urine irritates the lining of the bladder and causes a low grade inflammation there, so the person gets symptoms of chronic cystitis. The bladder does not want to hold toxic urine, so the person has to empty it frequently. If a child (or an adult) with this condition is fast asleep, then the bladder may empty without waking up the person, hence bed-wetting. Die-off increases levels of toxins in the body, so the urine will become more toxic, exacerbating the problem. It is always important to control die-off by slow introduction of probiotics and various foods. GAPS Programme will eliminate this problem long term, as it will remove its cause. In the meantime do what works to help the situation: drink plenty of water, supplements of cranberry help to reduce inflammation in the bladder, use various mechanical alarms and devises developed for enuresis, wake your child up a few times during the night and take him/her to the bathroom. Foods high in salicylates and oxalates can make the problem worse, so try to avoid these foods for a while until things get better. When the natural defences of the mucous membranes of the bladder are damaged by toxins in the urine, then any infection can join in easily. So people with this problem get urinary infections frequently which have to be treated with antibiotics. Populating that area with beneficial flora will prevent urinary infections. So, I recommend applying homemade kefir or yoghurt all over the groin after showers and baths. Probiotic microbes will slowly travel up the urethra into the bladder, protect it and help it heal.
