Not specifically al zahra, but we used baby steps back in 2012 to get my dds birth certificate, was very quick and hassle free. They bring it back wih all the necessary forms etc you need to apply for a passport. Then my husbands PRO sorted the residency visa out once we'd got her passport back.

Had a quick look while I was in spinneys today, SMA do a soy formula 'wysoy' and there was another 'soy protein' formula on the shelves too by nutricia. They don't do follow on or stage 2 types but the from birth formula will be fine for a ten month old - the NHS states that there is no need to move on from the first type of formula anyway. http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/Pages/types-of-infant-formula.aspx#close Are you cutting all dairy out of his diet? I've been there - it's tougher than it sounds, I couldn't believe just how many foods contain dairy! I had the help from a great support group that provided me with a huge amount of informatiob on what I needed to avoid and identified good products to try - although it's not always easy to find stuff over here, happy to point you in their direction if you'd like. I hope the soy formula works out for you,

Sorry I can't help you find soy milk. My daughter was also allergic to cows milk, and then developed a reaction to soy also - it is very common to be allergic to both as the protein molecules are so similar. I ended up using aptamil pepti formula, which is available in Carrefour. It is developed specifically for babies with cows milk allergies - maybe this would be an option for you?

I could be wrong, and I know nothing of a shortage, but when my daughter had her last round of vaccinations at al zahra hospital the paediatrician recommended that she have the yellow fever vaccination too and I was under the impression he was offering to do it there? We didn't get it as I felt two needles was enough for one day but have been considering it although I'm not sure how 'necessary' it is? I'm all for vaccinating but also a little wary of going over the top with meds etc.

Ah thank you ladies your info is really helpful - bellaUK and MollyDXB if you could let me know exactly how it works out for you that would be a huge help - I really hope it goes smoothly! Stressing about passports and visas etc is not what you need with a newborn, I hope it's not causing you too much trouble. That's a big part of my worry now - trying to make sure we don't have any more stress than necessary once baby arrives!

Thanks mrsDB https://www.gov.uk/get-a-passport-urgently According to this, if I'm in the UK i can use the fast track which is a one week service but not the premium same day service for a first child passport. I'd need to make an appointment to attend in person, and I'd need to stay in the UK until the passport arrived. Correct me if I'm misunderstanding though. I'm also not sure if I can get the baby to the UK in the first place. The information about the emergency travel document doesn't specify the circumstances under which they'll issue the document which is why I'm wondering if anyone has got one under these circumstances? https://www.gov.uk/emergency-travel-document. We're just trying to plan ahead and decide whether we give up on getting home for Christmas and make plans to celebrate here instead, and accept that our families will have to wait a few extra weeks to meet our new addition. Does anyone know if I can get advice directly from the passport office?

Another vote for the vista here, dd is 20 months and I'm still using it every day. Huge shopping basket is great and when they're tiny the bassinet mattress is safe for overnight sleeping so we used that instead of a Moses basket.

My dr also prescribed aspirin for air travel when I was 12 weeks. It was low dose, because when pregnant you are at higher risk of developing clots. I checked it out on the NHS website which said that in low doses it was fine to take. In my previous pregnancy I didnt take aspirin but wore compression socks and drank extra water during the flight.

My paed advised giving the 8 week vaccines early at 6 weeks in preparation for being among all of the plane germs. Baby was fine to have them early as she was in good health and a decent weight. You probably don't want them too close to your flight incase of a reaction/ grottiness while you're travelling. I breastfed in my seat, with strangers sat beside me. Sometimes with and sometimes without a cover, with no problems whatsoever - it's all down to your comfort. But don't feel like you should take baby into the loo for a feed - I wouldn't eat in there!!

My daughter was born 24th October 2 years ago, and I managed to get passport and visa sorted in time to fly home to the UK when she was 7 weeks old so yes it is doable. I'd recommend using baby steps for the birth certificate as soon as you can - they got it turned around really quick and then game me everything I'd need to apply for the passport. Flight wise, I think it was possibly the easiest one I've done with her! Breast feeding helps, and they recommend trying to feed during take off and landing. One thing I'd recommend very highly is to take some Panadol with you and give it around an hour before you're due to land. I didn't and she got really upset due to the pressure in her ears - hadn't realised we'd started the descent until it was too late. I've given it on every flight since and it's never been a problem again. Our second baby is due on the 20th October and I'm hoping to get home for Christmas again, fingers crossed!

No personal experience, but I have a little experience of treating children with this from my university days. It varies from case to case like most things, but with the right orthopaedic supervision and a good physiotherapist your son could have a very positive outcome. Best advice I can offer is to listen carefully to advice and stick rigidly to any therapy programmes and advice you are given. A lot of children are reluctant to do their exercises/ listen to advice but you really need to find a way to help him do it as regularly as your health professionals advise - the best therapy is the stuff he does day in day out not just in his appointments. Don't panic, it will mean some fairly long term treatment, but there are far worse things to be diagnosed with ? But hey it's Thursday, hit the red wine anyway!

Thanks tattie bogle, I have no justifiable reason not to buy organic and if it's coming from France then organic or not it shouldn't have the hormones in as they're not allowed in Europe. So thats definitely an option. I do often get milk delivered from the local shop because It means not having to pop into spinneys for one thing and coming out having spent over 100 dirhams (as is always the case!) so was just hoping that at least some of the local brands would be from farms who don't use the hormones...

We bought all of ours from toys r us, they're very reasonably priced and we are using it with 2 extensions but a friend of ours put 3 on without any problems I'm sure that would make it big enough for you. Pressure mounted but you can fix it to the walls with little screw in cups if you want it to. I want to say it was around 135 for the gate and less than 40 per extension. It closes and locks automatically too.

There is milk powder in most (but not all) store bought breads and the fact he is tolerating yoghurt would suggest maybe its not CMPA - or that he can tolerate milk proteins in some forms. Yoghurt is one of the later dairy products you would introduce on the milk ladder. So it's looking very promising for you! The trouble with changing his milk frequently is that sometimes it can upset their tummies too so can make things confusing. I don't know about drs in RAK, but I looked around for a paed who had a special interest in allergies as a lot have been known to dismiss CMPA as not a "real" allergy and have given out fairly shocking advice tbh. Get that second opinion and hopefully you will get some answers soon! I agree, the other parents on the Facebook forum really open your eyes to how difficult allergies can make things! I feel incredibly lucky to have a child who seems to have (almost) grown out of it already.

I found that the most difficult thing was trying to make sure she got enough calories - the main foods to get fats into babies are dairy products, but I used a lot of olive oil or nuttelex (dairy free "butter") in cooking and tried to persuade her to eat avocado. Have you discovered a milk alternative to use in cooking? I used 'koko' a coconut based milk with added calcium - you can get it in the change initiative. They also sell rice based puddings a little like yogurts that are dairy free and they have 'cream' made with oats. Also there is a lot of calcium in sardines, sesame seeds and almonds. Sorry if you know all of this already, just trying to think of things that were helpful to me! I would get a drs opinion on the formula, but if he can tolerate an HA formula without reacting then where is the harm? The only long term effect I think would be caused if he had blood or mucous in his stools, but like I said you should check that out with a dr, I'm no expert. I also saw a dietitian at mediclinic dubai mall who went through a food diary with me to check that My lo was getting an adequate diet - she was happy with what I was doing so I didn't change anything but I found it reassuring to have her look over it. I can't remember her name sorry. Oh and my insurance didn't cover the consultation but as a one off appointment it wasn't too pricey. We started to introduce dairy via a milk ladder (loads of info on that Facebook group) at 12 months and by 13 months my dd was off the aptamil pepti and taking bottles of boiled cows milk! She can't tolerate raw milk but is otherwise fine with all other dairy, and we're planning on trying the raw milk again soon. Hopefully if it is CMPA your lo will have a successful reintroduction in a short while too!

Hi My dd was diagnosed with CMPA at 5 months. She had severe vomiting after drinking formula milk (she was otherwise bf) she had a rash the first couple of times I gave her formula but never had and ******/mucousy stools etc. We eliminated dairy and then soya from her diet and I continued to bf. we saw dr fadil at city hospital and I was happy with his management (we saw a couple of other drs before that who I didn't have much confidence in). A huge help was a Facebook support group that a good friend of mine helped set up - lots of mums in the same situation it's called CMPAsupport they also have a lot of information and NHS documents and you can ask as many questions as you like. My dr was keen to do allergy testing but I ended up declining them - they can give false positives as well as false negatives so the result would always have been under question. They say the only true way to see if there is an allergy is to exclude the allergen, and see if symptoms reduce and then reintroduce and look for a reaction. Maybe if you're not sure of the diagnosis you should consider a second opinion? We moved on to aptamil pepti at 12 months, I mixed it with breast milk at first and gradually increased the amount of formula until she took a full bottle, but she took to it no problem. I have heard of some people adding vanilla or milkshake powder to formula but I was keen to avoid that. Sorry don't think I'm much help! Happy to try to answer questions if I can though...

I used exhale for prenatal yoga, and have done their Pilates classes too - there are prenatal Pilates classes available and I would definitely try those out if I were to get pregnant again. There are branches in JBR and motor city and you can pay class by class without having to sign up to any membership or buy a block of 10 and save a little money. I think I paid 75/class 550/block of 10.

We have the uppababy vista and really can't fault it! My daughter is coming upto a year and we still use it all of the time. The shopping basket is brilliant, I can fit a whole weeks food shopping in there. Also love the integrated sun shades. We did buy a few accessories which we've also been happy with - the infant snug seat, the snack tray and the travel bag - a must have for flights.

Hi I don't know of anywhere in Dubai that has an uppababy but we brought one over from the uk. We love it, easy to put up and down, very easy to push and the integral sun shades are perfect for our red headed baby girl in this heat! We felt that the push chair part was more spacious than a lot of others and like that it can face both directions. The only thing I would say is that the rear wheels are quite far apart which can make it a little more tricky to manoeuvre in smaller spaces but I think it's worth that sacrifice. It has a huge basket underneath that will fit loads of shopping in too! It is always good to see them in the flesh to try out though, hope you find one - failing that we are regulars at the bumps and babes coffee mornings you'd be welcome to look at mine while we're there!

I'm seeing Dr Britt at city hospital, she worked in the uk for a long time before coming here on sabbatical - no idea how much longer she plans to stay in dubai though. I came to Dubai at 27 weeks and she really helped me to understand how the care in Dubai compares to the NHS. She has a very laid back approach and has been great so far, not pushing every intervention going - only the things she feels I need. I'm 39 weeks now so hopefully will be able to say how she is for delivery very soon!

I am by no means an expert in this, but have worked closely with professionals dealing with similar issues. I have met several children with no physical barriers to eating who have for one reason or another had severe issues around eating solids and in many cases have been fed by a tube instead. One tactic that worked very well with the younger children was to use 'messy food play' look it up on google I'm sure you'll find lots of information, but it involves removing the pressure to taste and eat food whilst allowing children to explore and overcome possible sensory issues - it's a fun play/creative activity. Without the pressure they would often begin to taste of their own accord. It certainly wouldn't do any harm to give it a go. As other posters have mentioned, an occupational therapist and or speech and language therapist would be good people to seek advice from on this. Good luck and hope you make some progress soon.

Back in the uk I worked in a school with a hydrotherapy pool. Despite having policies in place re swimming nappies to avoid these situations unfortunately accidents do sometimes happen and on occasion the pool would become 'soiled'. I find it odd that the management are going to such extreme lengths as our pool system which was nothing out of the ordinary meant that at the most the pool would be closed for 24 hours to allow for a 'backwash' which would involve the water being thoroughly filtered. The chemicals they use in pool water ensures nothing nasty is left in the water. Are you sure they're not using this excuse to cover up another issue?

I'm a lefty, but I pretty much only write with my left hand and maybe play some sports left handed. I wear my watch on my right hand. Other than that I do everything right handed, my grandma taught me to knit right handed because she couldn't figure out left and I took to it easily, I can't manage left handed scissors and I learnt guitar right handed too. This might be a personal thing and maybe your daughter would struggle to do things right handed though...

Hi everyone! Certainly is getting close now isn't it?! My due date is 6 weeks away now! Scurry very much feeling like baby had a huge growth spurt this past week or so, after not doing much for a while and along with it has come more trouble sleeping, feeling uncomfortable when sitting like there just isn't enough room in there, feet and hands swelling up and some new aches and pains in my back and pelvis - the things we go through eh? Dr britt had a good theory though, she said if pregnancy was comfortable right up to the end no woman would ever accept that they have to go into labour and would just want to be pregnant forever- this way women are usually glad to have to give birth just to get comfy again :-) My baby shopping is coming on now, but need to get a few more bits and then start getting it all washed and set up, but feel like I have plenty of time because I'm not working sure I'll start to feel more rushed soon though! Haven't even thought about my hospital bag but guess it would probably be a good idea! I'm still going to coffee mornings and am pretty much there every Monday and thursday so just let me know if you're coming along and I'll keep an eye out for anyone who fancies it. Going to try the yoga at exhale today, as I'd seen some of you were doing it and it came recommended by one of the other coffee morning ladies, I'm hoping it will help with some of my aches and pains. just the small matter of my first drive to jbr... Hi all Thank you Jules, move in is going well, as in we are in and the air conditioning is working (phew!). We have appliances and our bedroom furniture is arriving today, after two nights on an airbed I'm very ready for a comfy night's sleep! We're still undecided as to what to do for living room and dining room furniture but I think we're getting there... And hopefully our shipment of stuff from home (kitchen stuff, pram, few baby things and electronics mainly) will be arriving in Dubai this week so we'll have it once it clears customs - hoping that won't take too long. Trying to persuade the husband to let me buy nursery stuff and get kitted out for baby as very keen to get sorted now (31 weeks now so clock is ticking!) but its hard when there's still so much other stuff to sort out. Had a stressful start to our long weekend, about to get ready for going out on Thursday and started bleeding - scary stuff. After a panicked trip to A&E at city hospital we were reassured that everything is fine, just 'one of those things' but fingers crossed have had no problems since. Cannot fault the care I got while I was there - they kept me in overnight for observation and the staff were lovely. I've now met three of the midwives there and would be very happy to deliver with any of them. It was an expensive night though - just over 3000 in total and our maternity cover on our insurance policy is only up to 10000 so we're definitely going to be forking out a fair bit. Still, I can't put a price limit on getting a healthy baby here safely! I've been going regularly to the bumps and babes coffee mornings (Monday and Thursday ones) and am really enjoying them, is anyone planning on coming along too? Can't say I've had any odd comments, but loving yours SG - what an odd thing to say!! I was a bit surprised when the midwife told me I was big for 31 weeks, and felt more like 34 - I thought I was looking fairly neat! Does that kind of thing freak anyone else out? I'm always a little scared by the idea of a big baby... xx

I went for the first class last week and thought it was good and will be going again for today's class. When I was signing the register last week I noticed a few Oct due dates and wondered if there was anyone from this thread :-) Hi Taurus baby, my husband and I are starting the antenatal classes tonight at city. Hi everyone, I have good news, we have a house! We got the keys to a villa in the springs yesterday - thank goodness for that!feeling so much better about everything now, there is just the small matter of furnishing it! So far the only furniture we have is the swinging crib I got on dubizzle last week so we have a lot of shopping to do! AW I haven't had a pregnancy massage yet, but it was our wedding anniversary earlier this week and my husband gave me an IOU for Al Asalla spa in Dubai Ladies club at jumeirah apparently they have 25% off during Ramadan. he said he'd done some research and it comes highly recommended for their mum to be treatments, will let you know how I get on! :-) I'm finding sleep is getting more uncomfortable as I get bigger, thinking of investing in a maternity pillow to see if that helps! I'm not having the glucose testing, discussed it with my doctor but she was happy not to do it as I am not high risk and the test is not something that's routinely offered at home in the uk so I wouldn't have had it there either. I did have to have my anti d injection last week but that was fine, will have to cope with a lot worse that a little injection soon enough! Feels like the due date is getting pretty close now, I'll be 10weeks away on Sunday - eek! X

Hi everyone. We are currently trying to rent a villa in the springs and have been going through First Class real estate - based in Al Barsha. The landlord is apparently playing hard to get though, and after agreeing a price and accepting our security deposit has come back asking for more money as he has apparently had a higher offer from someone else. We're just wondering what to do - the agent has offered to try to meet us in the middle money wise, using a cut of their commission to help secure the deal but we don't know if we should just steer well clear of this landlord and agent. If we get this much hassle before we've even rented the place what will it be like if we have any maintenance issues! We are new to Dubai, and desperate to get somewhere to live, and have heard a lot of stories about agents and landlords trying it on. If anyone has any feedback about this particular agent I would love to hear from you! Is this type of thing common practise for Dubai and to be expected??

Scurry: Is anyone else getting insomnia? I am tired but i cant seem to sleep much anymore. Its very sad as i love my sleep and this wriggly wide-awake person is just not me. My husband thinks ive been abducted and replaced by a stranger - one that cries for no reason and doesnt sleep! Sorry just read this, and yes here I am awake while hubby is sleeping, I'm always the first one to sleep! Once I'm off I'm usually ok though and as I just said, totally sympathize with the crying for no reason thing too! Flat hunting is going terribly as can't seem to make my mind up about what I want! I was all set to move to jbr or marina and not drive, but then made a u turn on that and decided that as I've never been without a car before I don't think now is the time to try it! I think I need the freedom to go where I want and when, and I wouldn't trust a taxi driver with the baby in the car. That means we now need something where we can park two cars and we also wouldn't be able to afford chiller charges in jbr on top of paying for two cars. Hubby is trying to persuade me to go to the springs, which on paper should be fine but I'm worried that we don't seem to be able to find one that is nice! Maybe I'm just being picky and unreasonable. I was thinking of tecom as an option as we'd get somewhere big with two parking spaces then but without any footpaths around I'm not sure it's the right place to have a baby. Thoughts?? Xx

Thank you so much for all of your help so far :-)

Our consultant appointment went great yesterday, very happy with dr britt, feel really relieved now that I have confidence in the maternity care side v things, not that I was really worried but it was hard to feel confident in the unknown! We got to see the baby again, which is always lovely. In the uk our midwife couldn't tell the gender, but yesterday it was apparently obvious, we looked away as we want a surprise but it's weird to know that the doctor knows what we're having! House hunting went quite well too, we saw an apartment in jbr we really liked, only 2 beds but good sized ones and with a great view. I think living in that area with a little one could be really nice with being able to go out for walks with the pram and having plenty nearby to walk to as I'm not sure how happy I'm going to be driving here! Is anyone else in jbr? Like it?

Scottish gal so pleased you got your results back, you must be feeling so much better, fingers and toes crossed we all have an uneventful last 13weeks or so! The weather in the uk has been horrendous the last few weeks, I know it would be a relief to get out of the heat but you must be glad to get out of the rain! I was looking at the coffee mornings thinking it would be a good way to meet some people, but it is a bit scary! there's one on Thursday might venture out if I'm feeling brave-I have no idea where things are just yet, is everyone happy using taxis on your own over here? *jules* we're still looking all over the place really, from jbr and marina to business bay to the springs. Wed really like to have a comfortable guest room for relatives coming to stay and ideally would be in an area with plenty other expats and some things to do within walking distance, but our budget is fairly modest so just trying to decide where to make the compromises. My husband works near the burj Khalif so got to take his commute into account too, there's a lot in jumeirah lake towers but have heard traffic is a nightmare there! Decisions decisions eh? Will definitely keep you updated on my progress :-) x

Hello ladies, hope everyone is doing well? I arrived in Dubai last night, it really is hot isn't it?! Feels like we have a lot to do in the next few weeks, starting with finding somewhere to live, we're staying in an apart hotel paid for by my husbands company at the moment but are going to be looking at as many places as possible to find somewhere to rent. I have an appointment with dr britt at city tomorrow, went with her after reading lots of recommendations on here, wanted to see someone as soon as possible after arriving to try to make sure I had a doctor I'm happy with and that I know where I'm going to get my care! Id love to do some sort of exercise class, can anyone recommend anywhere? I have no clue which area were going to be living I just yet so might be better if I wait until I do and then you can give me some tips on places to go? Really excited to be here, think the last 13 weeks of my pregnancy are going to fly over! X

Thanks ladies that all sounds really reassuring. I suppose one of the things I'm most worried about is ending up having an unnecessary Caesarian, I'd really like to have a natural delivery and would not want to give up on that unless it's unsafe. Ive read one or two things about doctors over there being quick to resort to a c section for the extra cash. Do you know if dr yuliya is pro natural deliveries? Congratulations to you both on your new arrivals!

Hi ladies Haven't posted in a while, been mega busy getting packed ready for our move! Glad to hear the anomaly scans have gone well-fingers crossed for you scottishgal. Had ours and everything looking great, I love seeing baby :) didn't find out what we're having, we wanted a surprise. Move wise we're just waiting for my husbands visa documents to come through so he can get over there and then I'm working in the uk til 20th July and following him out soon afterwards. Not long now! Been trying to look into hospitals and doctors etc online we're thinking we like the sound of city hospital but going to have a look when we get to Dubai. We're always very grateful for any tips/advice :) Bump is getting on nicely, a few people who didn't realise I'm pregnant have been noticing it in the last week which is nice! xx

Hi everyone, Congratulations to you all! I'm due on the 21st October with my first. I'm still in the UK at the moment but my husband just accepted a job in Dubai so looks like I'll be heading over there in July. Seems like so much to think about right now! I'll be around 28weeks when I get over there, I'm just trying to work out my maternity pay etc at the mo. I'm glad to have found a group of people who will be in the same situation as me when I get out there, I'm sure I'll have loads of questions for you all, would love to meet up! Hope you're all well x
