The 12 Best and Worst Pranks of April Fool’s Day 2017

April Fool’s Day has come and passed and left some of us annoyed, others amused and of course, some fooled. Your social media feeds were probably clogged with fake news, some obvious and others not so much.

We’ve put together some of the best ones we’ve come across as well as some of the worst.

1. Amazon’s Petlexa

For all of us animal lovers out there, this would be a dream come true. A word play on Amazon’s Alexa, Petlexa speaks dog, cat or even hamster. A smart device that can tell us what all the barks and meows mean… How can we turn this prank into reality?

2. Google's Gnome

A push further from Smart Homes, Google Gnomes will keep you connected with your yard. This actually doesn’t seem too farfetched, which is what makes it a great prank! We’d probably buy one of these gnomes just for the added humour.

3. Google Maps’ Ms Pac-Man

While it’s a recycled idea from their 2015 Pac-Man integration, it’s still so amusing. For some of us that got stuck in traffic, Pac-Maps was a classic way to keep us occupied.

4. Lexus’ Lane Valet

We’ve all had those really slow drivers in front of us on the road that make us consumed with rage. But what if you can actually just make them move with a simple command? This is the stuff dreams are made of.

5. Wayfair’s Sofia the smart sofa

While this is a little bit too good to be true, we loved it just for the humour behind it! This sofa with voice-recognition system would be in every home by now.

6. Emirates Airlines’ world largest commercial aircraft

A triple-decker, intelligently named APR001, is the one thing travellers would have been ecstatic about. A swimming pool, games room, gym and a park all on board? Take our money already! Emirates is known for its extravagant fleets, so it was easy for some people to actually fall for this.

And for some of the dishonourable mentions…

1. Groupon’s flat earth globe

Based off of how some celebrities recently revealed they believe the Earth is flat, this Groupon mocks the subject by giving a free “Flat Earth Globe.” We get it, but all they did was show that they like to mock others.

2. Funeralbooker’s home cremation service

A little dark humour? Maybe a bit too much. Get this “Domicinerator” and burn the remains of your recently deceased loved one from the comfort of your home…. Haha oh...

3. Burger King’s Whooper toothpaste

Oh the old imagine if your toothpaste was food-flavoured… At least make it somewhat believable.

4. Lucid Mattress’ Harambed

But really? We loved Harambe but this was just a bit too creepy.

5. Man Crates’ Man Freights

Ever wanted to ship yourself inside a 4” x 4” crate? Neither did we. This sounds like a claustrophobic person’s worst nightmare.

6. Houzz’s Hide From My Room

Why bother selling stuff for profit when you can just blow them up? Hide your kids!
