5 Simple Tips to Help You and Your Shoes

Hairspray

Patent shoes have been in fashion for a while now. We all have suffered from the little black marks that appear out of nowhere! Do not throw them away. There is one thing you can do to get rid of them. Spray hairspray on to the black mark and rub down with a tissue. It may take two applications but it works.

Breaking in

We all love a new pair of shoes! As soon as you buy a new pair of the shoes you cannot wait to wear them. The first time you where them you feel like a million dollars, then after about 20 minutes you feel like you are walking on a hedgehog and fling them to the darkest apart of your wardrobe. You can avoid this. Breaking in shoes is a very crucial thing to do before they go on their first outing!  There are many ways to do but after much discussion and tip swapping at EW headquarters we have  come up with the best way to do this……read on.

  • Put your new shoes in a warm environment, in an airing cupboard, in the bathroom while having a hot shower or just outside if you live in Dubai.  This will make the material slightly softer and more able to mound to your feet
  • Then while wearing thick socks put on your shoes.
  • Wear them for ten minutes while walking around the house/ cooking or simply watching a film. Take the off for 5 minutes and repeat.
  •  Repeat these steps for one or two evenings round the house.
This should make the shoe much more fitted to your foot and reduce the risk of all sore toes, ankles and blisters on their first outing. This is a ritual for all new shoes, even the flats!

Scratch them up

Yes you read the title. You can sometimes find that a new pair of shoes can be slippery on the sole. Many Woman before us have taken a fall or a slide on a smooth surface due to new shows. One of the ways to avoid this is to light scratch the soles of shoes. This just helps then shoe grip more with your walking surface *
Catch up on the daily headlines
One you have caught up on the daily news, keep the paper to help your shoes keep their shape. While you shoes are not been shown off in there full glory, simply fill out your shoe with newspaper. Not only is it a great way to keep your shoes in shape. It can help eliminate odors and help dry out your shoes if they get wet.

Catching Toes

Another hazard of a beautiful new pairs of shoes is that they catch each other at the front, causing you to trip! This tends to happen more on leather and patent shoes. You are walking along loving your new shoes and you shoes seem to catch each other causing you another trip. It’s that embarrassing recovering when you stride pass hoping no one noticed. Even Madonna has done it! One tip to try and avoid that is to place a tiny amount of Vaseline of the inside of the shoes. Just in the spot where the ball of your feet would meet. That way if they do catch they are more like just to slide of each other rather than catch.**

*Please bear in mind this just lowers the risk of you falling, though you can still fall over due to slippery surfaces.
**Do not do this to suede shoes
