How to Successfully Achieve Your Goals

Last week I ran a workshop for an expat community in the UK about How to successful set your goals and what I noticed is that for some people it is easy to set up their goals as they know exactly what they want, some people are quite confused and they never set up goals and some people have too many goals so they get distracted, tired and they give up!

What about you? How far have you come with your vision, goal this year? How satisfied are you with your actions? How do you feel? Are you disappointed because you didn't achieve your results? or Are you happy with your progress? You see, most people are disappointed, stressed and they want to give up. Maybe the goal wasn't important for you and you changed your strategy over the way.

Whatever your situation is the first thing to do is to reconnect with your vision, review your goal and your action plan.

Here are the 5 simple steps which will help you reach your personal or professional goals before the end of the year:

1. Refuel, relax and get back on track

Working on your goals can be tiring and you can feel overwhelmed and exhausted. As a woman living in a foreign country you may have many challenges showing up on your way like looking up at your family, developing your career or setting up a business. Communication in a different language can be also exhausting.  Even if you are a full-time working woman the first step to do is to stop for a moment and refuel  yourself, body and mind. There is no point to carry on with your goals if you are stressed and disappointed.  You don't have to take a one - week holiday, just dedicate one hour per week or 15 minutes a day to relax and energize yourself. You can take a walk, mediate, get a massage or lie down on your bed to rest. How can you refuel yourself this week?

2. Reconnect with your goal and review your vision

Take a look at your goal, whatever you are looking to improve your time management, get a dream job or spend more time with your family, ask yourself Why this goal is important for me? This simple question will help you to reconnect with your deeper purpose. Be aware that your goal can change during the time. If it is your case, then what is your new vision, goal or challenge. What would you like to achieve before the end of the year. Write your new goal down or if you prefer draw a picture of your goal or even create a vision board.

3. Review your action plan and make changes

What is/was your action plan? How far have you come with your actions? What about your new time management plan? Is your CV updated or how much time did you spend with your family? What was successful so far for you? What was unsuccessful? What is the most important thing you can do today towards your goals? Those simple questions will help you review your action plan, get clarity about your actions. If your goal has changed write down your new action plan.

4. What is still missing?

What is still missing in your action plan? What can you change or improve? Maybe it is time to learn a new skill, work on your interview skills, sales skills or have more fun and freedom in your life? What can you do about it? Once again go through your vision and action plan and reflect.

5. Act Now. Take your actions now

There is no point postponing your steps. Sometimes it can be scary because you are coming out of your comfort zone, but remember: What is your biggest why behind your goal? If you want to change something in your life, take your career or business to the next level the time to do it is NOW, not tomorrow, not in one week. Think about what can stop you on your journey and how are you going to overcome those obstacles? You can ask for the support, join groups of people who have similar goals to yours. So what action can you take today which will take you one step closer to your goal.
Remember to be gentle with yourself on your journey, reward yourself for what you have done so far and celebrate even small successes.
