my DH needs to be on work in south africa (cape town) sometime last week of july so he thought it would be a good idea to club it with a family vacation... I just need some feedback on the following:

- what child friendly activities can we do while there?
- will the weather be ok in july? (since for them that is winter time)
- any child friendly safaris that would allow our two kids to join (they love animals and are very patient on long drives)
- any suggestions on places to stay? visit?
- approx. how long of a holiday should we take? would 1 week to 10 days suffice?
- any suggestions on airlines to go? which airport should we fly into? Joberg or CapeTown?

thanks... any feedback is appreciated!

http://www.umlani.com/ Amazing place, brilliant with kids. It is pricey but the all inclusive 3-day package is so worth it.

Check Time Out Cape Town. There are loads of activities to do in CPT. Pack your winter woolies though as its quite cold now but its gorgeous and you will love it. Hope you booked a ticket already as those flights are full especially now that Emirates only has temporarily one (instead of two) flights to Cape Town... http://www.timeout.com/cape-town/search/?tag_id=4253

The list is endless... A must add to the list though is travelling the wine route and have a relaxing lunch at one of the wine farms. Emirates flies directly to Cape Town. Is less stress than going via Johannesburg if you have 2 kids in tow edited by blokkop on 16/04/2014

If your DH needs to go to Cape Town for work then I suggest a direct flight instead of flying to Joburg which is unnecessary. Emirates does 2 flights a day to Cape Town. July is normally cold and rainy in CT so it would limit the things you could do although the weather can be a tad unpredictable sometimes - one year we were there it rained the morning, hailed the afternoon but the sun came out after that and we did a lovely drive along the coast and you wouldn't have been able to tell the weather was so bad earlier in the day. Things to do include: Table Mountain cable car Robben Island Boulders beach to see the penguins Day trip to Hermanus (1 hour out of CT) - July & Aug is the peak calving season for whales Kirstenbosch Gardens District six & other museums Castle of Good Hope V&A waterfront visit Hout Bay Harbour Green Market Square The list is endless... If you want to do a safari there is one near CT but i haven't been. A friend of mine went but i can't remember if she took her kids. She did enjoy it though - check out http://www.aquilasafari.com/

Hello, We just returned from Kwantu game reserve. We flew Johannesburg to port Elizabeth where we were driven to the reserve. It is situated in a malaria free area and catered for children
