Toughest conditions since 2008 recession. UAE banks counting the cost of weakening economy and competitive market. The banking sector in the country has been in a state of upheaval over the past 12 months after 3,000 jobs were slashed in the UAE’s two main cities, Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Nearly 900 jobs were cut across the banking sector in Abu Dhabi over the past year, with the number of employees in the sector dropping to 12,500 in the first quarter of 2017.

You can enter on a tourist visa, but unfortunately have to exit again to get your residence. Normally an entry visa is issued prior to the residence visa, so to allow you do go through the medical and other process. The medical test is to check if you have any contagious disease. They do not check so much on what blood type you have

We were in a similar situation as we do not have a UASE embassy in our country. We went to an embassy of a GCC country that was represented there (Egypt) and got it certified there after it was certified by our country's Ministry of Foreign affairs. After that, you have to get it translated into Arabic and take both (original and translation) to the MOFA of the UAE and get it certified. But that was 8 years ago

We also had the same issue, except the landlord never cashed the cheque. We confirmed with our bank and they told us that any cheque older than 3 months from the date of issue is no longer valid. We gave the LL a new cheque whilst he returned the old cheque

It's possible. A good friend of ours is a single mum as well. She arranged everything through a travel agent, i.e. ticket, visa etc. She came on a tourist visa and stayed for 30 days

[i'>The new visa is not necessarily quick and can depend on the person's nationality. It can take 3-4 weeks in some cases only for the security clearance part, some nationalities of course are cleared much quicker in only a few days[/i'>. Not quite true, as he already has been issued with a visa previously. This is only valid if he applies for a first-time visa

The best would be to research the police register and see if any docket is open in your name. Engage a local lawyer to assist you with that. It is always useful to have a clear conscience, even if you need to come back to the UAE for any other reasons

Unfortunately I do not have the exit number, but that's the first exit after you have passed Al Raha Mall on your right. It indicates Mussafa and Abu Dhabi. Once on the slipway, follow the Abu Dhabi sign, drive across Maqta bridge until you get first traffic lights. Kindly note you cannot enter the mosque at that entrance (infront of the traffic lights), but you have to make a u-turn as if you were returning. First slip road on the right again takes you to the south entrance

Our landlord did not ask for a visa. However, if water and electricity is not included in the rent, it might be a problem. To connect that, ADDC requires an Emirates ID and visa. So rather go look for propertty that includes all, alternatively if they could stay in a hotel appartment for the first few days and months. That will give them good time to look for proper accomodation

[i'>"They kept asking if I had insurance and then they burnt the bill" [/i'> They cannot "burn" the bill as all the medical insurance companies only pay according to a fixed fee which is being dictated by the health authority.

The best to look for accommodation is on www.dubizzle.com. Most of the times you can rent directly from the landlord. There are many furnished appartments or villas around. Our 3 bedroom villa in Khalifa City A will be avialble from 01 February 2015. The LL just increased the rent to AED 142,800.00. He accepted only two cheques. Will be quiet difficult to find anybody accepting monthly payments.

Its the overall attitude of the maintenance guys here. As a last resort, I approached my Emirati friend and colleague to assist me in this matter. He phoned them and told them in no uncertain terms, if they don't fix, they will see the consequences. And it worked all the time.

Somebody in Abu Dhabi had a similar issue when the previous sponsor refused to let go off their maid after she finished her contract. It even went so far that the future sponsor saw no other option as to report this matter to the police. The issue was resolved amicably and the maid is now working happely for the new sponsor. That's the feedback we got. Your maid and her DH need to go to the Philippine embassy to sign a parent's conset form that son is allowed to travel/visit and a power of attorney so that a nominated person back home can apply for a DSWD travel clearance (Department of Social Welfare and Development) at any of their offices in the Philippines. This form however is only issued once a tourist visa has been issued Once she received the consent and POA form from the embassy, she handed them over to her travel agent and they did the rest (applying for visa and sending all documents to the Philippines). This process took about 3 weeks. My DH paid the travel agent for the ticket and visa, which was about Dhs4500 in total

This can be done, but a long process as she had to get the necessary douments from the Philippine Embassy and also back home, since her daughter is also a minor. Our maid used a travel agency, as they are the only ones who can sponsor a tourist visa. She could sponsor her on a visit visa only, but with the recent change in rules, I guess she cannot do it if her salary is less than Dhs 10,000 per month ( used to be Dhs 4,000). DH paid for all the expenses. Will provide more information later once we talked to our maid after we are back home edited by blokkop on 05/05/2014

My DH had it over 25 years, always carrying anti-acid medicine with him. When he came to the UAE, he was told to try something his friends was cured from. His doctor prescribed him Losec Mops and Antibiotics for 1 month. Since then, he never complained about this problem, and that is 5 years back.
