travel suggestions France/Austria

Hi, I am hoping that someone has some suggestions. We (my husband and I, no kids) are taking a trip this summer and ending up in Lyon. Five days later we have to be in Vienna. Any suggestions as to how to make our way to Vienna? Would like to spend 3 days in one place, as opposed to travelling a bit each day. Anyone know any wonderful spots en route to Vienna? We aren't sure if we will drive or take the train. Any recommendations about that would also be appreciated. Thanks.
