We recently brought the Philips Avance 18.. juicer from Carrefour, I think it was about 800/- Not the cheapest on the market, however it's an amazing juicer. Ours gets a fair workout every day making breakfast and lunch juices for 2 people, and we shove everything though it, ginger, alpha, spinach, beetroot, as well as the usual fruits. Only things we peel before putting in is limes (too strong a flavor), and cut the end of the lemons. Can't recommend it enough. Happy Juicing

I too had been looking for chicken broth/soup for a long time. I ended up speaking to one of the staff in PnS, and he advised that there has been a municipality ruling banning the import of it because of some ingredient or possible illness you could get from it. grrrrr my chicken pie does not quite taste the same without it :-( edited by kiwiindxb on 14/07/2014

Hi ashnaisbitt, sorry I dont do speech just ABA and behaviour, ;)! ... Ranches Rose, I would be quite keen to get in touch and discuss the behaviour work you do, as I think my DS 6yrs would benefit greatly and we are tearing our hair trying to find out how to help him. How would I contact you? thanks

Hi Get a hold of Carlos Cruz there, he is very good. Gets back to you and is a normal helpful person. We used him to rent a villa for one of our staff, and even months after the tenancy was signed he was getting me other additional information I needed. good luck.

Hi I fully agree with Valt, we have just finished with Brain & Learning centre, not for dyslexia but other major issues, and the turnaround in our DS has been amazing. Really it worth the nightmare in scheduling for a few months to make a life time of difference to a child. good luck with whichever way you go. thanks

good day Buzzybee, I would say giver her the unlimited, read her the riot act as the others did. We gave our nanny wifi, tv etc we shed moved in with us, it was our first time having someone, and it's worked out OK. It means she can be close to her family too. As a result of her having internet and skype around the house it means she can always be in touch. For us, we like that, and our kids do to, as they talk to her kids and her parents as well. It helps them to understand that she has a life too and her own family outside ours. Also right now she is back in PH as her mother is unwell, but she is still on skype with my kids every other day, so I know there is a emotional bond to them (should be after 5 years) and she will come back to us, so it's also a little bit strategic too from our side.

Hi, So sorry to hear of your DS struggles. My DS has had issues in KG1 & 2, horrible time at school with behaviour, focus, pencil control, concentration, the list was problems was seemingly endless, and he lost his self esteem and there were days he hated school. We were told to fix the problem without too much support. But we found Brian & Learning Centre, not the cheapest thing in the world, but the changes in my child over the last 3 mths have been amazing. DS has started year 1 in great form, and his teacher says he is doing just fine. I would say well worth checking out. Good Luck!

But also aside from the Expo, we must consider what is happening with our neighbours in the region. If it all goes bad/very bad it could have serious effects here also.

For something a bit different, what about Aikido. I have just booked my DH for a couple of months for exactly the same reason as you. It starts at 19:30, therefore works well for those who work long hours, for my DH it seems to be doing the trick, as it sort of clears your mind, and focus, as well they work up a good sweat. There have the classes just in Safa near ParknShop.

Has anyone seen and frozen uncooked croissants in the markets? Am too lazy to make them from scratch, but like the thought of the baking smell, and having them super fresh for the table.

Hello KC85, So where would your husband be based? Ajman or closer or further up. What about living in RAK. Now that is a very chilled laid back lifestyle up there. Villas a cheap. Friend is moving into a new 4 bed for AED90K, 3 blocks from beach, and handy to pool and playground. RAK has good IB school, which is sensibly priced (certainly a lot cheaper for the IB school I pay for here in DXB). RAK is nice, it has a bit more to offer than Ajman, but is much smaller of course than DXB. If you are looking in DXB, schools are expensive & the bus too. I would be inclined to get the salary + acomm + school fees. The rest you can work on. You getting a job would be easier in DXB as more opportunities here. FYI - although my husband and I both work - we make ourselves live on 30k a mth, covering all our costs, including villa, maid, food, car (x2), school (5yr), & play stuff for DD (3yrs). I really don't think we could live on anything less. It is more expensive here than people think. You mentioned you found a aprt for AED70K, what part of town was that in? Prices can vary lots. And you need to think about easy access for your DH to get to work etc etc Good luck, UAE is great place to be.

Good Morning, It's tough for the kids to choose what they want to do for the future. I know I had no idea, and it wasn't until my late 20's that I finally fell into what I wanted to do. Now I watch my DS who is only 5, and every week he wants to be something different. There are so many opportunities out there for them. I was messing around on the web the other day, and have stumbled across this website which may be of interest. They do a workshop that will help your young adult discover what is out there and may help give them a head start. I thought it looked really good authenticity.ae/workshops-future.htm Also, something else is they could do an assessment or perhaps an Occupational Interest Profile (OIP). Good luck!!

Hi Nana, You are on the problem, so that is the main thing, and getting it sorted. Take heart from that. We are in the very same situation with our DS (5yrs), although not quite as extreme, and he is not an only child. What we are learning is often it is a fight the child has within themselves, about right or wrong, listening etc. I read yesterday in the 7days a very interesting article on a company 2blimitless, which we are going to look into. Not sure if they do 5 yrs old, but it looks very good, where they come to your child's natural environment (home) and run the sessions once a week there, over an extended period. If full on life coaching basically for kids. the fact that it is over an extended period I think is great, as will help cement new learned behaviours within the child. What we hadn't thought of was getting our DS hearing tested, that is something we will do too. Good luck, and it will all work out.

Ah yes, know the one, but some how feel that would be a AED 60/- chop, when I'm looking for the standard AED 15/-. he's only 4 years old, so he's not to worried about looking like that Justin Beiber yet :-)

Great thread, and really interesting to see everyones very varied views. My DH and I are from the North of NZ, and our kids were born here. So I naturally expect them to grow up with a UAE accent rather than any accent from NZ (seeing they only spend maybe a month a year there), and we are quite happy about it. As the NZ accent sometimes be hard for people to understand if it's strong and are talking to people where english may be their 3rd or 4th language. Although after a summer hol's in NZ, DS does come back saying 'Awesome Bro' & 'Choice' - which we nip in the bud quite quickly :-)

Hello Dan Lou & Rachel A, thanks for your advice - really good points to note on QA. Dan Lou - yes we are kiwi - might I ask where you ended up putting your kids? And how have you found it? RachelA - do you have first hand knowledge of ISLQ - how do you feel about the teachers there and the all round feel of it? Thanks so much - as really getting my son into is good school comes first, and then we can be sorted out after.

Hello, My husbands company are suggesting we might like to move to Doha (from DXB) in the very very near future. OK, if just us not problem, I'd chuck my job and we'd be away. HOWEVER, we have 2 kids, and 1 is in school. Can anyone offer advice on Qatar Academy? my son is in kg1 is it any good, what are the fee's like etc. Needless to say it's Thursday afternoon, and they are not answering the phones. Anywhere else do PYP for IB? Now, I have also heard cost of living have skyrocketed there in the last few months, any thoughts of what salary you need to survive, save some and have some sort of life over there? Looking forward to any advice. thanks

Hello, Has anyone been to Zabeel Park in the evenings? I am wanting to get a group of people there, and do some sport/games etc for a fun evening, do you know if the area is well lit - resonably brightly. Had thought of Safa Park, but the lighting is really poor there in the evening. thanks
