I use just plain old fairy liquid and water in a spray bottle. Worked on our tomatoes which seemed to be a favourite of theirs, the horrible little things!

I know of one lady who had a c/s in Doha Clinic with her husband present... I realise this is how urban rumours are started but thought it might just be worth saying anyway! I am sure it depended on the lady's circumstance and who the dr was... among many other things!

Hello, I am 35 weeks pregnant and have been going to Doha Clinic since the beginning. I do not have insurance but I wanted my husband present at birth so I was not willing to consider Hamad (which will only allow another woman to support you through the birth). Doha Clinic do not have an appointment system but depending on how fussy you are about which dr you want to see, your wait can be from 30mins to 3hrs (and that is not an exageration). There are normally at least 6 drs on duty and it will be immediately clear from the tv screens which Drs are more popular. As it is all private, they are unlikely to be surprised by your turning up 34 weeks pregnant and will certainly not turn you away! It is fairly usual here for people to change drs, hospitals etc throughout their birth because of insurance issues (and personal preferences). For your information, a 'normal' (non-c-section) birth costs approx. 7.500qr (with about 400qr extra per night if you want a suite/private room). If you have health insurance that will cover all the costs, you can go to Al Ahli which has much higher charges (though I'm not altogether sure about whether it is worth the additional costs- though it does feel very grand when you go into in, as opposed to Doha Clinci which might feel a bit run down in contrast!). Hope you find this helpful, it is meant to reassure you that Doha Clinic will see you with no issue whenever you turn up. Also loads of people wait with their children, though can I recommend going first thing in the morning as evening sessions are especially hectic!

Thank you for that Cellbell and sorry for your troubles! I think I am going to leave things as they are at the moment, not only because of your advice but also because when I read through the Irish Passport 'changing your name upon marriage' clause, it said that any marriage certificate issued outside of Ireland needed to be attested before they would consider a name change! This means having to get my UK marriage licence attested in Milton Keynes Commonwealth Office before sending off my passport for my new name! Amazing how much nonsense you have to put up with! For my little one's passport I will do as you advised though, and go straight to Dublin, not via embassy- does seem a bit around the shop to send something to Abu Dhabi first. edited by mcginster on 23/05/2011

Cellbell did you manage to get your passport? How long did it take? I am expecting early July and the lucky lady is eligible for UK and Irish passport. Wondered whether getting an Irish one might be easier/quicker? Thought I had best change my Irish passport from my maiden name to my married name over next month to easy application process- don't suppose you know anything about that too?

Thanks for the information Gina but unfortunately the number doesn't work! I would, and have been, taking panadol but I sturggle to keep them down- convinced it is entirely psychological as can manage to keep most other things down! My sister used physiotherapy for pregnancy headaches- now convinced this is the way forward. Don't suppose anyone can recommend a good physio? As you can probably tell, I would buy quack medicine from pretty much anywhere at this stage (including tiger balm which does, to its credit, provides temporary relief).
