Hi, my husband went to do this a few weeks ago and was told that the best time to go was when they open at 6am so he went back the next day and got there at 05.45 there was still a queue but not as bad as when he first went.He did not get away until 07.15 as there is only one man with a battery drill to remove the old number plates and replace with the new ones. Not sure if you would have to wait the same if you are a woman but I would advise that you get there as they open if you can.

Hi, thanks ccdoha and everyone else for your advice.DH and I have talked this through and although he does love his football he has agreed that he can always find other options on how to watch the match. It,s not as important as having a really nice place to live so we will not let that stop us from moving to The Pearl.

Thanks for your advice.DH has made enquiries with Qatar Cool today and it would appear that the standing charge for a 1 bedroom which is what we are looking at will be 252QAR per month + usage charge which we have been advised should average around 100QAR per month for the size of the apartment. As Jonners says, we wouldn,t want to be hit by a huge bill all of a sudden so it gives us an idea how much to budget every month now so thanks so much it looks like moving to the Pearl will still be a good option for us.

Hi, can anyone living at The Pearl advise if they pay a standing charge and or fees for Qatar Cool air conditioning and usage charges and what the approximate costs are? Or anyone that knows if you can request that such fees are included in the total rental cost, so we would know exactly what our monthly budget would be before we commit to a yearly rent contract for an apartment? Any advice on this subject would be gratefully received as DH and myself are considering a move there in the near future. TIA

Hi LadyNorth, I have been on the Dukan Diet myself for the last 2 month's and had the same problem with finding fat free fromage frais, I really didn't know you could buy it here. One thing you can get here though in Carrefour is Quark which can be a substitute in some recipes but not all. I use it to make the oatbran gallette that is in the Dukan recipe book. The quark is in a blue and white pot, Carrefour's own brand and is usually by the plain yoghurts in the chiller.Hope this helps and good luck with the diet it has certainly worked for me!

Many thanks for all your swift responses. We have just been to the Technical Care Centre in Hyatt and they were extremely helpful, even opening up a brand new wii and games just to demonstrate. The guy there has now confirmed that our wii bought from Carrefour here in Doha is American and therefefore our UK game is not compatible. He said there is something they could do to the box but does not recommend it then he showed us the Wii Freeloader disc which seemed like a better option but the only version he had was one that converts US games to be compatible with a European box and not the other way around. We then tried TCC in Landmark but the guy there looked at us a bit blank and so now I am back to square one but thanks once again all your input is much appreciated.I am going back to UK in a few weeks so will maybe ask in some of the shops there for any solutions.

Hi, I need to get my wii box I bought here adjusted in order that I can play a game someone bought me as a gift from the UK. Having asked this question on the forum previously somebody suggested I try taking it to Technical Care Centre opposite FFC on Merqab Street.I have just been in there and the guy said he could do it but when we asked how much he said it would cost 250QAR.My husband and I were flabbergasted and told him we know that the game didn't cost that much so promptly left the shop. Can anyone else suggest somewhere a little less expensive please? Thanks in advance

I had just about a bellyfull of Karwa taxi drivers yesterday, why oh why are they always trying to rip me off? All I wanted to do was get home after a bit of shopping in Villagio and it took me 3 attempts so here goes my rant. 1st Karwa cab I asked him to change the meter from 0 to 1 which is the Doha daytime rate to which he insisted, "No no, same same" after a few minutes I got out and walked back to where I started at Villagio entrance. 2nd Karwa cab I asked again to change the meter from 0 to 1 then he began to tut and huff and puff. Then he pulled over at the side of the mall, got out of the car, looked around, totally ignored me when he got back in and then spoke into his radio.I asked if he had another passenger to pick up and should I get out to which he said yes.So yes, there I was again back outside the same entrance where I had originally stood.By this time it was getting a little like Grounhog Day and I was getting very hot and bothered not to mention very angry. 3rd Karwa cab had the wrong rate set on the meter again and I kept insisting he changed till in the end he said just give me what you usually pay.I watched the meter tick over 25 riyals every 8-10 seconds so it was way over what it should have been by the time I reached home but I just paid what I thought fair as I was to tired to bother any more.I took all 3 taxi numbers down but judging by what one of the other ladies said, it seems pointless to phone so I will send an E mail as Kados suggests and see where I get. I feel so much better now for that rant, sorry everyone but it really gets me riled every time I get in a blue cab and have to do battle.I just want a quiet life and be able to get from A to B when I want!

I buy the Cypriot feta in Carrefour called "Pittas" it's delicious and just like the Feta you get in Greece. It has green writing on the packet and is in the fridge with all the rest of the cheeses. It is a more crumbly cheese, perfect for Greek salad and much nicer than the type you get here which I have found is more like a cream cheese.

Hi Amy, if you are going down to the Corniche there is a "barge" near the Sheraton end which is quite interesting to visit. It looks like an ordinary concrete square building but is accessed by a walkway from the Corniche and is actually floating on the water. When you go in you will see some old photographs and artifacts of Doha and there is a huge model of the Dohaland project that has started.I am sure your Dad would find this interesting, I know myself and my husband did.Not sure of all the opening times except it does not open until 3 0' clock on Saturday's. Hope your Dad enjoys his stay.

blini, sorry I wasn't there to see the end result.I think I was sitting next to you at Pour Elle Salon when you first came in and were telling RJ what it was you wanted. So glad you are pleased with the result as I was one of the people who recommended Pour Elle on this thread.

I also go to Tarek at Pour Elle Salon Ramada to have root colour touch up and cut and blow.I also have streaks re done every 6 months or so by him and have always been very happy with results.I very often recommend him to other people, it costs me 440QAR for root colour, wash, cut and blow dry which I think is very reasonable for salon prices in Qatar
