Hi, Has anyone seen any yellow princess dresses around? Need it by tomorrow evening, please. My daughter asked to be princess Amber from Sofia the First for world book day which was a deviation from the "I want to be a pink princess" initially so I am completely stumped, but don't want to crush her spirit. Any help would be appreciated - even to borrow or buy a second-hand dress. Looking for size 3-4. TIA

What about designer bags and shoes? Are they really cheaper in the US? I plan to go check out the outlet malls for some clothing I've noticed that toys and books are cheaper, so will probably bring home some Melissa & Doug things for the children that are expensive in Dubai or that I haven't seen there. Definitely not interested in any food stuff....i think there is sufficient in Dubai

Hi Ladies I am trying to do some organizing and the next thing on my list is the kitchen. I want to eliminate keeping things in the packaging they came in and trying to close them with a clip - looking at getting airtight stackable containers like Tupperware or similar but everything is so expensive. Do you think Tupperware is worth it? Any other ideas - I've looked at OXO (very expensive) and Lock n Lock containers (not all options avail in Dubai)? I have the Lock n Lock cereal containers but they leave spaces in between when stacked next to each other and its driving my head in...first world problems i tell ya This is what i want to end up with: [url=http://www.google.ae/imgres?imgurl=http%3A%2F%2Ftheorganisedhousewife.com.au%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2012%2F08%2Ftupperware-pantry-1.jpg&imgrefurl=http%3A%2F%2Ftheorganisedhousewife.com.au%2Forganising%2Fa-guide-to-sizes-of-tupperware-modular-mate-containers-for-the-pantry%2F&h=280&w=600&tbnid=uT2N6Q5flGKv6M%3A&zoom=1&docid=X6AcqTiULaRXOM&ei=IfA2VIfwJvWNsQSotILICA&tbm=isch&ved=0CDwQMygaMBo&iact=rc&uact=3&dur=926&page=2&start=21&ndsp=24'>link[/url'> [url=http://www.hgtv.com/organizing/what-we-love-best-pantry-organizers/pictures/index.html'>link[/url'> <em>edited by CapeChick on 10/10/2014</em>

Hello I've searched through the forum and didn't find any answers so I am hoping someone could help me. We did the 48 hour service (AED 420) and when I dropped my maid off gave her an extra AED50 for the hep B vaccination and AED35 for the courier fees but when looking at multiple sites, including expat woman it says the AED420 is inclusive of the Hep B vac already - "48 hour service costs AED 420 (AED 370+AED 50 for Hepatitis B vaccination" - I don't want to jump to conclusions but was the extra AED50 needed and did my maid pocket the money? Second question - I received the "result" back from the courier but it doesn't give any result - it just looks like the papers I gave her before she went for the medical with a few extra stamps on it. What does this mean? Did she pass the medical? I am so confused! Appreciate any answers to my questions. TIA

A Dubai based IFA suggested we invest in a long term plan with Generali last year but did some research with the help of my dad, and some UK advisors, and they said don't touch it. I don't know anything about these kinds but my dad pretends to! A Towry Law, a UK advisor told us to never ever sign up to a contractual Savings Plan with GWM - either with Generali or Skandia. Apparently, you will lose the first 2 years payments in commissions... Old posts but check out: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=3396314 Its all about how it is managed and what you invest in. Mine isn't too bad and also have a 5 year plan. My advisor did mention that Generali is good for short term plans as the fees are not too bad, but long term plans with them are very expensive so not a good option.

Hi Debz31 I was in the same boat, with no support system here and I am a working mom. My daughter was born when my son was 18 months and although the first year was really rough and I am still not getting a full night's sleep you find ways to manage and just keep on going. My daughter is now 13 months old. Of course it helps to have someone to b***h to and make you feel like you are not crazy! If you ever need to have a chat you can email me on [email protected] Good luck!

has finding a maid become so much harder and much more expensive these days? And it seems everyone wants to live out, but how do we guarantee that she doesn't work for another family in her off time which could get us into trouble? I am desperately looking for someone but just not finding the right person :(

I'm not sure if you will find much here but I used this website for exercises as my first was delivered via c section due to him being posterior and I was determined not to have another c section, even though my DD was born only 18 months after my DS. Happy to report that I had a natural birth with my DD :) [url=http://spinningbabies.com/baby-positions/head-down-is-not-enough'>link[/url'>

If your DH needs to go to Cape Town for work then I suggest a direct flight instead of flying to Joburg which is unnecessary. Emirates does 2 flights a day to Cape Town. July is normally cold and rainy in CT so it would limit the things you could do although the weather can be a tad unpredictable sometimes - one year we were there it rained the morning, hailed the afternoon but the sun came out after that and we did a lovely drive along the coast and you wouldn't have been able to tell the weather was so bad earlier in the day. Things to do include: Table Mountain cable car Robben Island Boulders beach to see the penguins Day trip to Hermanus (1 hour out of CT) - July & Aug is the peak calving season for whales Kirstenbosch Gardens District six & other museums Castle of Good Hope V&A waterfront visit Hout Bay Harbour Green Market Square The list is endless... If you want to do a safari there is one near CT but i haven't been. A friend of mine went but i can't remember if she took her kids. She did enjoy it though - check out http://www.aquilasafari.com/

ok, this is not exactly a recipe but it is the very lazy day of the month meal. whole chicken cut into pieces, salt/bbq spice for seasoning and pour a packet of Ina Paarman's peri peri sauce over and pop into the oven for 40 mins. Serve with grilled veggies (with Ina Paarman garlic & herb seasoning) or rice or pasta...

I had a natural birth with my second baby after having a c section the first time. The second one was 18 months after i had my c section and even my doctor back home who is a vbac specialist said it was gona be hard to go natural but my doc here supported what i wanted and my birth was amazing. The midwives weren't pushy either and fully supported me too. My doc was Dr Rosalie Sant and i was at City Hospital

I did the drive from Dubai to AD for 2 years which was nerve wrecking at times especially since I never drove more than 15km to work before that in a place where other drivers were courteous and friendly. That said, I am a much better and more confident driver since doing those commutes so its not always a bad thing And the drive from AD to Dubai is so much easier than the other way around (did it for 3 months) & it is definitely better/easier than driving around within the city limits of Dubai or AD congrats on the job Ginnee

We've been here two years and before that I've lived in Cape Town all my life...this in the not so safe Cape Flats too. We would love to go back as well especially because all our family and friends are there (haven't found like minded friends here that are our age) but there is just so much to consider now especially since we have a baby. Crime is not the only thing to consider even though nothing terrible has really happened to me (touch wood) but I know of alot of other people who have been victims of crime. Also the job market in South Africa is terrible...my sis and bro in law got laid off as well as my sisters boyfriend and all of them struggled to find employment again. The cost of living in SA is not that affordable anymore either - i was in Cape Town in March and things were crazy expensive. Luckily I could afford it but if I think of earning a "South African" salary, having to pay tax, having to fork out an arm and a leg for medical insurance, the price of petrol, the increasing price of electricity, the cost of food etc it would be hard to do so. But seeing the mountain, breathing that fresh air, being with the family, actually understanding people and how things work would...its hard to decide what to do

M i have considered things I eat but it varies from day to day so I cant pinpoint any specific food unless it is dairy. I tend to have about 2 cups of coffee a day with milk (decaf of course) and occasionally some cheese - maybe I should try to omit that from my diet? I also considered that it could be reflux as DS swallows quite loudly at odd times, arches his back alot and sometimes lets out a tiny but loud scream for a few seconds in his sleep and sometimes while feeding. Doc says that if he is feeding well and picking up weight which he is then they don't consider reflux to be much of an issue. I have raised his mattress in his crib at an angle just in case though. kiwispiers, all the fussiness did start at 6 weeks now that I think of it - so I guess another 6 weeks to go. Luckily DH took 2 weeks off so he's been at home with me for the worst parts. I've read up about lactose/foremilk overload just 2 days ago actually as DS had greenish poop which is one of the sign so I've adjusted the positions I feed him in and the poop has now returned to the normal mustard yellow color - he did seem slightly better today. Will try the "hula dance" burping to see if that will help too. DH is back at work from next week which I am totally dreading as I would be alone then and I dont have many friends who are at home that are close by. Im considering flying home with DS just so my mom and gran can help me out for a bit and then then having mom fly back with me here for a while till the worst is over Thanks again...just the support makes me feel like I can get thro this

Thanks for all the replies ladies. I've only just now gotten a moment to reply. Actually I started a while ago and had to go see to a crying DS before I could finish this post @BrownEyedGirl - we not trying any routine at the moment, all we want is for him to be settled and actually get some sleep and the evening was the only time he got this which is now a distant memory. Because of the lack of sleep during the day he is overtired and this was the only time he got proper sleep. He was fussy today again, not wanting to sleep and crying when I put him down. Whats worse was that he was crying while I was carrying him and walking around too so I didn't know what to do. There were times when he screamed more when I picked him up than when he was on the bed. I made sure he was fed, burped and his nappy was changed but he still cried. Eventually after almost an hour of walking and rocking he fell asleep - did this twice today-and I had to hold him while he was sleeping just so he could get some rest. @SEY83 & chickhick the infacol is definitely hit and miss and I've also tried gripe water but he throws up after giving it to him. Will try calling Cecile - i'm willing to try anything now. He is exclusively BF. Tried expressing and giving him the bottle so I can get some sleep but it seems he doesn't know what to do with it but I'm going to keep on trying. He is swaddled for every nap time as he moves around quite a bit if not which wakes him up. Tried giving him a pacifier to calm him but he doesn't know how to suck it. Will try the baby sling idea- any ideas on where to get one? If that doesnt work I guess I have to accept that DS is just going to be a fussy baby an hope that it passes.

Hello ladies I need some advice please - don't really know where to start. DS is 8 weeks old and is extremely fussy and constantly crying - I don't know what to do anymore. It started about 2 weeks ago - he doesn't want to sleep during the day unless he is rocked and carried and as soon as I put him down he starts crying again. In order for him to get some sleep I resorted to having him sleep while holding him. I thought he had a problem with winds or possibly an ear infection and took him to the pediatrician who assured me that there is nothing medically wrong, said its colic and prescribed infacol. I've been giving him infacol for the past two days but it doesn't seem to help with his winds. The only saving grace I had was that he slept well in the evening after his bath. His routine is a bath at 6pm, followed by a feed then bedtime at 7pm and another feed at 10.30pm after which he would sleep through until 3am for a feed and at 7am again. Yesterday that all changed. He has his bath at 6pm, followed by a feed and I thoroughly burped him and put him down by 7pm. 20 minutes later he was awake and crying - turns out he had another wind. He fell asleep again and 10 mins later was crying again...this continued until 10pm after which he was so tired that he slept through to almost 2am. Tonight the same thing, just now he cries when he is in his crib or on the bed and he cries louder when we pick him up. Had anyone gone through the same thing?

Got this done for DS last month, at the no-frills Aster Hospital in Mankhool. The procedure (ring method) and consultation fees cost AED850. City Hospital quoted us AED1650 if we got it done immediately after birth (before discharge) and AED3000 or roundabouts otherwise. I called the doctor and the receptionist quoted the AED850 (procedure AED 650 & consult AED200) PLUS AED1200 for medication = AED2025. Did they tell you this as well? Do you know what the medication is for?
