We would love to extend our back garden patio with existing tiles that currently are just placed on the ground. Anyone know of a company that could help?

We loved it...well worth it and we had our 1 year with us. I would say what we saw was limiting due to the heat and slow pace of walking....no pushchair.....too rocky and the donkey ride to carry us back to the entrance gate was great! If I did it again, I would stay in a hotel just around the corner of the site and look into if one could buy a ticket that mean't you could see some sights late afternoon and then in the morning to make it easier for the toddlers legs. We drove from the dead sea....4 hrs! Still worth it.

Hi ladies.... I am utterly confused ....first time mum who has a 19 month old living in Arabian ranches . I need to be thinking of schools and getting on waiting lists. But which school? It annoys me that we cannot attend Jess , our local school. We have no corporate debenture or any other siblings for priority. If only we worked for emirates eh... I would favour a British curriculum and not to travel too far. I think fs1 starts at age 3 ? Any comments (positive if poss) or experience would be very much appreciated. I intend to start viewing soon, providing there is room on the list for 2014!

Thanks every one... We tried dubizzle and were a bit unlucky as after a garage test, car we looked at was a little short of a bag of bones. In the end, DH went to a main dealer on s z rd today and we got a lovely car sorted.

Thanks ladies....was trying to avoid a big loss....any ideas ? Seems I am on the right track regards brands....not used to such new cars as had a ten year old rav from a farmers wife in the uk though mileage greater here so figured a newer car would be a safer bet.

Wow, wow and wow!! Thank you all so much for the info, very helpful indeed ! Not sure on brand as yet as just working out what car we can afford....Really appreciate it every one, my DH will be impressed and it means I can crack on with car hunting especially as its getting too hot to be waiting outside for ages holding a baby! Not to mention all the shopping bags, car seat too.

It's interesting that only the Marina mall lists a fee when I click on list of coffee morning locations.....so the fee must exist .

Hi sundevil Sorry to dig up an old post but may I ask how inexpensive blinds from bestway, Dragonmart Can be? We too are looking the for same style of blinds you described for our upstairs windows ....do they come and measure and fit?

What is your definition of venetian blinds? What I call venetian blinds are the ones that run top to bottom and you can twist them open and also pull them open from left to right. We had our's down at Bestway Windows at the Dragonmart and they were inexpensive and fast and fit perfectly in the windows.

Thanks very much for your advice ....especially the bit about asking the team not to take the rails down. I will ponder over making an offer...and I too think black outs will help keep a room cooler.

New to Dubai and tenant of villa we have chosen has offered to sell her made to measure blinds to us. She paid 9,000 for basically the upstairs consisting of 3 bedrooms which all have black out lining too and two non black out lined for landing. What would be a fair offer? I can see they are good quality , yet maybe I can go to somewhere like dragenmart and get some done myself and for maybe less than half what sbe paid? My DH is reluctant to spend a lot on curtains and we wonder if black out are necessary ? I have seen lots of suggestions on here as to where to go, I am just trying to work out if it's worth making an offer on the current tenants curtains?

As The Villa is only 10 mins away from the ranches, no harm in having a look and again the comments are very useful ! Big villa with own pool sounds lovely but then a completed community does too....anyhow....great dilemma to have ! Thanks everyone....

Thanks very much everyone for your comments which are most valuable ....think my favourite area is AR (Mirador looks lovely ) and DH wanting to consider Meadows too as he will be working at Media City, though to be honest he'll be driving to the airport a lot . Can't wait to move over!

Hi Xanzec Thanks for your reply, May I ask .....Does the meadows have a community feel to it? Is it easy to meet other mums? Are there pools? Parks? Or do you find maids mostly look after the children? A nursery close by? Sorry to ask so much ! We did a drive by and my DH liked the look of the meadows and the close location to the centre. I just worry it might be a bit lonely compared to what I read about the ranches.....

Hi Myriambill Sounds like The ranches has the edge, I will look into Mirador. Also a contact in Paris where we currently live has said the ranches from the beginning ....i will see what I can find out about the Meadows too as DH liked the look of it and felt it was closer to centre, though I wonder if traffic might be busy . Anyway, thanks ever so much for the info....it's re assuring to hear The ranches are family friendly . Exciting stuff and we have an agent through DH work to look for properties ...

Thanks all for your replies! We have been for a drive to check out locations and although AR seems far out, I read great things about it eg traffic not as bad as springs....and it has a community and great for young families. Think it has good parks too? Think I have ruled out apartment living as the sound of a winter BBQ mouth watering! Lakes, Meadows and springs looked nice....Could only see from the outside of gate...any one live there that can say if it is great for family living? Is the traffic bad? Jumeirah looked 'ok' the beach so close is appealing ...anyone live there that can comment? I read it has lots of nurseries like umm seqeim. I will have a car, especially as I have a 5 month old baby. I hope to get the right location rather than moving after 6 months.....please comment on the areas if you can..... I Feel spoilt for choice! :)
