We moved out here in Aug 2014 and on the whole we love it. Of course like everywhere it takes time to settle and we have ' Doha days' but we miss very little about the UK. We brought our dog with us from the UK. You can organize it yourself but we used James Cargo from Manchester. I would recommend that you start the process early to avoid last minute delays. Our dog has adapted well, in the cooler months he goes to the beach and camping in the desert with us but it's harder when it's 45deg! One thing you'll need to consider is pet friendly accommodation and dog care if you're out all day as it can be hard to come by.

Hi You might want to look into GTP (graduate teacher program) which was suitable for people without a PGCE who want to teach. It used to be school based experience with a day in Uni/studying. Not 100% sure how up to date that is but I'm pretty sure Sunderland Uni runs an overseas teacher training course so that maybe worth a look?

Yes it'll be a lot different! ( I'm from Redcar near Middlesbrough) and you've arrived just as the temperature has started to rise You will get used to the driving, I found having a driver for the first few weeks helped as I paid close attention everywhere we went so when I got my car I felt confident with directions/roads etc. I hope you find good accommodation and get settled. We've been here nearly 2 years now and love it! Kathryn

We moved here from the UK just over a year ago and we love it. It was purely for work reasons we moved and as its just 2 of us and a dog we didn't have children to consider but most people here who I know with kids think the lifestyle for children is pretty good. Yes, finding schools can be difficult but children grow up with lots of other children from different cultures and its very safe for them. We like being outdoors and this is possible for at least 6 months of the year, yes it is much harder in the middle of summer but most people travel for a few weeks to avoid the heat. In terms of your dog - our dog has adjusted well, we used Qatar Vet centre to help with the relocation who were very good. He is a mixed breed with a bit of staffy and it wasnt a problem but they should be able to advise. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

This may not directly answer your question but will give you some info. I travel to Sherborne every day, from West Bay if I leave at 6.15am I am there by 6.45am, it's generally a 30min journey there and back and traffic is not too much of a problem. People from the Pearl leave about 6am and arrive about 6.45am so it takes slightly longer. They have faced issues recently around Katara and it's pretty common for there to be traffic gridlock on the Pearl on weekend evenings, we avoid it if possible. The school day is quite long and you probably want to add an hour on each side for travelling. I know of people in compounds near equestrian roundabout and their journey to Sherborne takes 15-20minutes. Hope that helps

Yes, I can make that too. The Starbucks next to Lakeland or the one on the upper floor?

Hello I have lived her for just over a year, we moved from England in Aug 2014, I also live in West Bay and would like to join you both for a coffee if you arrange something! City Center is fine with me, I work until 3pm Sun - Thur so if you could sort something for around those times that would be great :) Kathryn

Hello Will there be any sales / discounts in the shops after or during Eid? Not sure whether to buy now or wait to see if prices go down!

Hello Today we took our car to street 24 and it passed legal / technical test. I know we now take that paperwork to the traffic department and pay 100QR for the renewal but I'm unsure about the car insurance. I've read in some places I need to get the car insurance before we go to the traffic dept, others said you can buy it there. I've found 3rd party insurance online ( our car is 12y/o) for 580QR incl breakdown assistance with QIC - can anyone offer any advice please? Thanks ?

Hello I'm trying to find a decent sized pool in West Bay that I can use for lane swimming. The pool at the Ritz is great but gym membership is expensive as I won't really use anything other than the pool, I'd prefer not to drive to aspire every night. Does anyone know where there's a pool I can use in the West Bay Area Thanks

Hello We relocated here last August and brought our dog with us from the UK. We actually chose to bring him 2 days after us as we wanted to get settled first. He flew as cargo on a direct qatar airways flight from Manchester but you can take them on your flight as excess baggage. We used a company in Manchester and Qatar Vet Center here, the service was good. It cost about £1500 for everything. Please bare in mind they will recommend dogs don't land on a day flight as its too hot waiting to unload them, he was on a 9pm flight. When he arrived to our accommodation he was hot, tired and a bit stressed but he soon recovered - he had been in a wooden cage/crate for almost 24hrs bless him. Any other qs please ask. I'm sure you know this already but dogs should never be shaved it does not help to cool them!

Hi We have some friends staying with us for a few days, here are some of the things we plan to do with them - Yum yum restaurant then souk wakif. Drive up to the mangroves past Al Khor ( they would need driver/hire car), katara , Museum Islamic Art with lunch at IDAM, dhow trip, walk along corniche, craft market at Mia park, evening at jazz at Lincoln centre, trip to aspire park and the tower, Belgian cafe, prime steakhouse, villagio. There's also the fort at zubarah and film city on the way to Zekreet. Entlak do trips such as kayaking at the mangroves and as mentioned a trip to the inland sea and dune bashing. Hope that helps, there isn't loads to do here but enough for a few days :)

Hi There was some hair lice treatments and combs in carrefour at city centre, next to the medicines ( bottom shelf?) though I'm not sure of the brand. Another option is to call a salon and ask if they could recommend anywhere. Desert princess which is english owned may be able to point you in the right direction?

Try Desert Princess off Salwa Road or Glow in West Bay ( I think glow has salons in other locations too).

Hi We brought our dog over from the UK - where you coming from? We used Qatar Vet here, they were very good. He flew as cargo with Qatar Air. In total it cost about £1500 for all vet checks in the UK and here, flight and services of relocator here and in the UK. It will prob be cheaper for a cat!

Hi I went to Al Esraa near Landmark last week, it was for a minor complaint and the doctor I saw was fine. They have different specialists if you look at their website.

Hi We are in West Bay and use Clean Team. Our cleaner comes once a week and it's a minimum of 4hrs at 35QR an hour, it's the same cleaner each week. Been very impressed so far, we leave all cleaning products and in that time everything gets polished, floors mopped and hoovered, beds changed, bathrooms cleaned and a few items ironed. We leave the key with reception.

Hi Yes, the one he flies in is measured for him but I believe it has solid plastic sides, the one he has at home is like mess/wire on the top and sides so he can see out and that's the kind we want go buy.

Hello We are moving to doha in August and bringing our dog with us. We are having difficulty finding a dog walker and was wondering if anyone could provide a recommendation? We will be living in West Bay We have also looked at using qatar vets for relocating, has anybody else used this company? Thanks!
