Hi ladies, Just wondering how you are all getting on with your LO's. DS will be 11 weeks tomorrow and the poor wee mite isn't feeling too good. He's got a snuffly nose, dribbling like crazy and is trying to put anything and everything in his mouth?! He's also not the happy wee boy he usually is, seems to be a tad bit unhappy. Is this a growth spurt or teething? Whats going on with my beautiful little boy?! Has anyone been along to any of the coffee mornings? I REALLY need to get out of the house now and along to meet some other Mummies!!

I've never been able to find the BF Pregnacare here but the normal Pregnacare says it's from conception through to BF. I still take the normal one now (DS is 10 weeks and BF)

I am SO excited... DS for the last two nights has slept from 7pm, dreamfeed at 10pm and up at 7am!! First night it happened I thought it might be a once off, but it happened again last night. I'm soooo happy!!! Only thing is, I think the months and months of little sleep for me has finally caught up on me and I'm now really tired!

Thanks Nutty, We've had a great week since I last posted. We have stopped the pinky sucking (which took a wee bit of crying and was SO hard for me to listen to my baby crying like that) and he now sucks his own thumb to settle. He's now going through sleep cycles on his own and for the last 3 nights he's slept from 7pm, dreamfeed at 10pm and wake at 3:30-4:00am for feed then up at 7am!! We have had him in a sleeping bag all week. Nap times during the day are so much better, having 2 x 2.5 hour sleeps and a nap late afternoon with little or no fuss. Like a totally different baby! No more standing over his crib for ages waiting for him to drop off and hoping like anything he won't startle himself awake!! Now I just hope he keeps up with it because I'm starting to feel semi human again with the extra hours sleep at night!!

My sister and I grew up in a small town in NZ where our town had 60 children attending. We both went to Japan a few years ago and visited a place called Nara in the south where I had been on a high school trip years before. We were walking up the street and I looked across the road to see a woman who looked like our primary school teacher. We crossed the road and I asked her if she was a Kiwi to which she replied she was. I then asked her if she was from our hometown and she said yes. I then asked if she was Mrs ... and she said yes! We hadn't seen her since we were 10 years old and here she was in this small town in Japan visiting her son who was an English teacher there.

I've just read an article on this on the justmommies.com website. Not sure if this would help you? My DS sometimes has green poo without the stomach upset. My midwife said it's from too much hindmilk if you're BF? If not, that website lists other possibilities. edited by 2Blossom on 18/03/2011

Hi Moustique, firstly...lucky you! What a lovely birthday pressie :-) My DH and I travelled through Cambodia & Vietnam a few years ago as part of our trip around the world. I had wanted to visit both those countries for a long time, not sure why. I can honestly tell you that Cambodia was the highlight of our trip. It touched both my DH and I like we never would have imagined. We visited orphanages, the landmine museum, Tol Sleng, and a childrens hospital plus of course Angkor Wat which is just amazing. The two highlights for me were celebrating my 30th birthday at the top of a temple watching the sunset over the Angkor area and also having a traditional dinner with a Cambodian family in their village. After our dinner all the children from the surrounding homes came and we all danced the night away in the sweltering heat. It was just fantastic. They were such lovely children and all wanted to practise their english. The landmine museum was very emotional as was Tol Sleng. We did travel with Intrepid Travel though and not on our own. Vietnam we both enjoyed but not as much as Cambodia. We were caught in the worst flooding in 20 years that Hue had so were stuck there for 4 days!! So avoid the rainy season!! Halong Bay is an awesome trip, we overnighted on one of the junks and went through the caves there. There is a restaurant in Hanoi called KOTO (Know One Teach One) which employs street children to teach them cooking skills etc. The food was FAB. All in all, the people of Cambodia are just beautiful, always have a smile for you despite what they have been through in the past. Can't help with Laos unfortunately....thats next on our list! edited by 2Blossom on 18/03/2011

He's only 9 weeks so too soon to give him anything like stuffed toy etc to suck on. He's found his hand and I know he's trying to get to his thumb. He's done it once which was great as he resettled himself. I know the pinky has to stop, but having difficulty weaning him off it and I just can't take the crying that comes with him not having it! And with little sleep I just give in and do what I can to get him off to sleep again. He's BF so waking every 2 hours at night for feeding. He does the first sleep after bedtime 3-4 hours, then 2 hourly after that (resettling himself, I don't know how!) but the last 2 nights he's been waking at 4am, 5am & 6am as well. This morning I tried swaddling him again and closed the curtains in his room and he slept for 2 hours, resettling himself. I got him when he first sneezed so not sure if it was swaddle, dark room or getting him at the right time which has worked!

Thanks for the reply HAK. If we don't give him our pinky to suck on he won't fall back asleep. He normally starts fussing around the 40-45 minute mark. Sometimes he can go through to the next cycle but most of the time we have to help him. I notice sometimes when we just stand back and watch him he's occasionally happy when he wakes, so should I just get him up and not worry about trying to get him to have a longer sleep? Alot of the time he cries after his 45 minute nap. I have read that some are just happy to have shorter sleeps - just want to make sure I'm doing the best for him and it's not something I can 'teach' him to do, to sleep longer.

Oh no!! Did Karen or Dr. Nataliya mention that Dr. Lanelle might be able to help you with the positioning of DD? I'm pretty sure when I was seeing Dr. Lanelle for accupunture & adjustments that she said she could help with positioning? She works at Well Being Medical Clinic anyway if you want to phone and ask. Yes, I drank loads of the rasberry leaf tea towards the end! Not sure if it made a difference or not but felt like I was doing something to move things along anyway. All ok here. The last two days I've managed to get him down for day time naps which have been great. He really doesn't like to sleep during the day which is exhausting for me!! He's got great weight gain though and smiling which is lovely. I definately want to meet up once your LO arrives. I'm SLOWLY getting a little more confident taking DS out by myself. The first few times I was a nervous wreck! DH leaves this Sunday on a 2 week business trip which I'm really not looking forward to. Will let you know about Baby Cafe when I manage to go to one! Good luck!! x

You will be fine Reidly & Stovetop! One of the reasons I waited so long to have a baby was because I was terrified of giving birth. But I can honestly say I was very calm throughout the whole thing. I was also worried I wouldn't know when I was going into actual labour because I had had the BH for months before DS arrived. I woke up at 2am the morning he was born with a terrible headache and then more BH. I started timing them and since they were pretty regular I knew this was the real thing. You really do know when you are actually going into labour! I stayed calm the whole time which surprised me because I was worried I would scream the hospital down giving birth to him. Didn't make a peep until he crowned so I was very proud of myself! You'll probably surprise yourselves. Good luck and look forward to hearing your birth announcements! edited by 2Blossom on 06/02/2011

Just Kidding sell slings. I just had a look online. They have now moved to the Gold & Diamond Park. When I told my midwife about DS's unsettled period she suggested cutting out dairy and wheat to see if that improved it or not. Could that really make a difference?

I'm going through the same thing with my 4 week old. He's very unsettled first thing in the morning so from 7am - about 2pm I can't get anything done as he just wants to be cuddled. Like your LO, he has little naps and wakes up crying when he realises that I'm not cuddling him. The most I can get him down for is 20 minutes and I'm worried since he's only so young he's not getting enough sleep. Sorry I can't help, just letting you know you're not alone

DS was 2 weeks old when I first went out in the car by myself. He ended up waking on my way home so I pulled over into a car park, jumped in the back seat and fed him for 10 minutes until he dozed off again. It's nerve wracking your first time out but just be calm and you'll be fine!

Thanks for posting back so quickly 2Blossom, and very reassuring to hear that your experience at Medcare was a good one as have been a little anxious :-) You mention Dr. Nataliya visiting on Day 2 - does that mean she wasn't at your delivery? Anyway, good to hear that the hospital staff were supportive, esp re the breast feeding. Dr. Nataliya delivered DS. I was worried he would come early because she had been away on holiday, but he waited until she got back thank goodness! She was fantastic and Im really pleased with the care she gave me. I spent two nights in hospital as DS was being monitored, and she came back on day 2 to check I was ok. She gave us all the missing bits of information that Medcares doctors didn't provide us. Being new parents we were both a little worried but she made us feel loads better. One piece of advise...make sure your DH packs his bag as well if he will stay with you in hospital! Mine didn't and I rushed him out the door since he decided I can't have been in labour and he would try get a few extra minutes of sleep!! They do provide you with everything you need in hospital but they also do charge you for it as well. Enjoy the nesting :-)

Hi Reidly, Medcare was great. I can't complain about the care we got there. I had about 6 people in the delivery room with me, don't think I would have had that back at home! The midwives all helped me with the breast feeding. Each time he was due to fed they would come and make sure he was latched on properly and make sure colostrum was coming out. It's really amazing they know what to do even when they are a few hours old. I didn't have enough for him the first night so they topped him up with formula. He was in NICU for 3 days and I would go there to feed him. The only thing I can complain about was the lack of communication from the doctors there. DS had a few problems due to the assisted delivery and they didn't explain things properly to us which paniced us both. Dr. Nataliya visited on day 2 and explained everything in detail which was great. You will be fine :-) Looking forward to making a coffee morning soon and meeting you ladies ad your LO's.

Hi ladies, DS had his 3 week check up this morning. We were a little worried he wasn't getting enough milk but he's now 3.83kgs (birth weight 3.31kgs) so he's doing well! Has an unsettled period once a day where he is up for hours on end wanting to feed, be cuddled, catnap etc but at least the last few nights he has been more settled. Hang in there Reidly - your LO will be here before you know it :-) jeniawwad - hope you're doing ok as well!

We're swaddling DS and he does like that. We keep one of his arms free as he seems to like it and occasionally finds his fingers to suck on. We have music playing in the background softly and during the day he sleeps with TV going etc. His nappy we were changing at the begining of a feed to wake him up as he's also a lazy feeder and quite often drops off to sleep while nursing. Midway through feeding most times he would poo, then we'd change him again to wake him up and also try and burp him. Because he takes so long to settle during the night he'd wee again so it just seems like we're almost starting the feed / sleep cycle over again by the time he's dropped off it's time to feed again! I have thought about not changing him after some night feeds because on the occasion where he does settle I don't want to disturb him. Just don't want to get him into a bad habit of falling asleep on me and not be able to get him out of it. He's gone down perfectly tonight so fingers crossed tonight is a 'sleep' night. Thanks for your replies :-)

Congratulations to you too Scogan! You did so well to deliver without Epi - I'm sure I couldn't have done it. I really did want to, but when it was offered to me I had no hesitation in saying no! DH was very worried when they were trying to put it in though, the Dr couldn't get it in and it took her a good 20 minutes. Not something you want, someone fishing around in your back for that long. I was a little worried. I agree with you though, if we only knew how long you had to endure it for it would make it easier to cope...I think!

Hi ladies, DS arrived on 07th January, a few days ahead of schedule. A little bit of a rough start, he was distressed and got stuck on his way out so I ended up having a vacuum & forceps assisted delivery. It was all over pretty quickly though - 6 hours which seemed to go very fast! 1.5 of those hours were spent trying to convince DH that I actually WAS in labour and we should think about going to the hospital!! At 2:15am in the morning I don't think he thought I was serious!! We were kept in hospital for a couple of nights while he was in NICU being monitored. All his test results have come back good though and we're now at home getting to know each other. What a steep learning curb!! I would still like to make it to the Mums & Bumps coffee mornings, just need to find my feet first with the LO. Hope everyone else is keeping well and look forward to hearing of more January arrivals
