I don't have kids and don't mind at all when they are around in "adult" areas, its not fair on the parents to be expected to be stuck at home or play areas only because they have children that they "cant" take out with them even if it is at night (I highly doubt those kids are out every single night and missing their bedtimes!) In fact I always find myself smiling and saying its alright to mummies who look worried or start apologizing when their kids start to act out.. its not their fault! I hate this whole kids must be seen but not heard business, even the most disciplined children will act out as do adults! I've seen as many adults making scenes and being loud and disturbing as kids are to be honest.. It's nice that you don't mind 2dogs although before I had children I was much more tolerant to misbehaving brats too. Probably because I didn't have them at home so didn't ever feel like I needed a break from it when I went out. If anything I thought it was funny - along with a smug MY children will never behave like that thought or two. Oh how wrong I was. Perhaps you are right :) hehe lets see I might come back here in a few years with a different view for sure! You never know eh..

When I was looking at registries a year and a half ago they were doing it in Bloomingdale's only I think.. as far as I know I think maybe Jashanmal's does one too now- in the end we just went with gift vouchers from malls as the option for those who wanted though as was less hassle! HTH

My male dog is neutered and to be honest I have the same problem, so not sure how much that would help... He will leave all the trees and the grassy pit and just pee against the garden chairs and our clothes line and the table and the pots and everything that you would not want him to pee against!!! Obviously when we are there we tell him to stop but they have a dog door so he goes out whenever he wants and well, needless to say we always find nice surprises hehe :( If you find a solution please share...

For super quick you will need: 1. Bananas 2. Butter 3. Cinnamon 4. Vanilla ice cream Slice bananas (2 or 3 depending on how much you'd like to eat) and fry with butter, add some cinnamon and keep mixing till it becomes soft. Serve with ice cream on top and you can sprinkle some nuts on top if you'd like! Super quick and very yummy and hot and cold mix is lovely! Goodluck :) x

That's what I am also wondering, I really do not know why rent is going up so much and at such a fast pace too! Logically it doesn't make sense but there you go... obviously the 50% applies to some areas and not others but generally speaking though.. rent is soaring on a weekly basis now!

Hi Fairy, I agree with Verdeque, please please get in touch with Verity the dog whisperer of Dubai. She is amazing and I know for a fact she takes on cases of difficult dogs (she has been bit once or twice by an aggressive dog herself)! She will work miracles on your doggie. Although we don't have kids and our dogs never bit us, one of them used to be aggressive and would sometimes show us teeth and almost bit our gardener once! Needless to say all those problems are of the past now. She has extensive knowledge with dogs and is honestly a miracle worker. I can post her details on here tomorrow if you would like to give it a go? Try her for one hour or so and see how it goes before you decide to put down your dog... Hope this helps.. x

I have 2 guide books and some maps if you would like to buy them off me. Brand new, never been used. My job there fell through so I have them all sitting here. The books are lonely planet and AA. Thank you so much for your offer, I already have LP books that we have used to research the trip, was more interested in Moose's personal notes on her trip there and the do's and dont's. Thanks a lot though!

People won't openly name them on the forum because the powers that be can then block them. If you pop up your email, I'll be happy to send you some options. A VPN will work with any service provider. Hi Chocs01, can I pls have some info too? .. cheers! edited by 2dogs on 05/10/2012

Hello ladies, we are thinking about moving to Springs 1, very close to the mosque. Can any of you please tell me how loud it really is in the mornings and during the day? I really don't mean to offend anyone but I have a small child so I'm a bit concerned. How long does the call to prayer last? Does it wake you up in the morning? Can you really get used to it and just ignore it after a while? Any comments are much appreciated. Thanks a lot. Hi MAK, I live in springs 1 and we are super close to the mosque.. you are more than welcome to come and have a listen if you want. It honestly depends on the time, sometimes it is very loud, sometimes it isn't! In Ramadan it was exceptionally high at all timings but now seems it has been lowered a bit, DH usually sleeps with ear plugs just in case it is loud in the morning (4 or 5). I never wake up to it as I am a heavy sleeper but in Ramadan it has woken me up before.. how long depends on the day (Friday's are longer), anything between 3 minutes to 10 minutes to half an hour for Friday prayers. On the other hand, Springs 1 is lovely to live in with 2 community pool areas and the super market right behind us that it more than makes up for the loud call to prayer that only happens 5 times a day anyway ;-) HTH Oh and you do get used to it for sure! edited by 2dogs on 03/10/2012 edited by 2dogs on 03/10/2012

Isn't the OP the same person who posted the dowry/mehr article? Yup, I really think she is trying to wind us up.. so now you dog is scared of a cat and wants to be let in? So the problem is with one cat it seems not ALL the animals your neighbour seems to have.. I am sorry I have adopted 2 dogs and would be more than happy to adopt more if I had more space, it is cruel to say there should be a limit to households on how many animals they can have, we are lucky to find homes for these animals not limit people!

We could say the same thing about children - why are they not limited as they can spoil a neighbourhood as well :D Lol AND they throw things into your garden! Once I had a child throw a huge log into our backgarden whenever she heard my dogs hanging out there- just for fun I guess! :\:

I think she is just trying to wind us up! How are these animals jumping into your garden when you also have a dog that is apparently sitting in the garden outside with his/her water.. dogs don't usually allow any animal into their space, specially cats or other dogs for that matter! And how low is this wall anyway...Come on!

Can't help you with where to buy a book, we had bought ours at borders, Lonely Planet guide. But if you want to post your email address I wrote up some tips from our trip and kept it saved because friends have wanted to travel there. It's just a little write up on where we stayed, how we got around, etc. might help :) Hi Ladies, I am off to Vietnam with hubby next week and we are still finding it difficult to plan our itinerary- eek! Moose- any chance you still have that write up of tips that you can share? or anyone else has been and has something similar to share please? I think our main issue is we would like to do the north (halong bay) and the south (ho chi minh) and transport seems to be a nightmare, would it be best to get the help of a travel guide although hubby is not huge on that idea.. TIA for any tips or recommendations x

I dont remember who was asking for this earlier, but remember seeing a post about someone looking for a VHS to DVD converter. There is a special offer on Cobone for 34$, not sure if they still have a Dubai offer but I suppose if you have a shop n ship account then should be okay? Just thought to post in case someone else interested :) http://www.groupon.com/deals/gg-ca-honestech-vhs-to-dvd-deluxe-4-0?utm_medium=email&utm_source=channel_goods-deals&sid=11254775&user=095a88ef3b36074398994850d8190083fab88f57cf3e62ae6579c1e44f3fe32e&utm_campaign=11254775&s=body&d=gg-ca-honestech-vhs-to-dvd-deluxe-4-0&p=1&c=deal_product-name

Hi Ladies, Quick question about freelance permits in DMC and DSC - I have tried to look into the process on the media city website which doesnt seem to provide info on the details and process of doing this so firstly, does anyone have any info on the process or a link to info on that? Second and more importantly, is it possible to get a freelance permit and operate as one while employed by a company in DMC - Obviously, provided the go ahead of your employer is there...can you work and operate as a freelancer at the same time? thanks in advance for any help! :) xx

I know you're asking about restaurants, but just to let you know for take-out NKD Pizza now do a GF option They do and its yum!! :D that's good to hear, I meant to have said on my post that I'd not tried it - although I might give it a go though am not gluten intolerant! And what great service at Meydan! You don't get service like that in my house: My sister eats a gluten free diet, and when we were in the UK recently I made Sunday lunch, and put Paxo stuffing mix on her salmon (it was a serving suggestion on the back of the packet and I was doing chicken for everyone else). Needless to say it didn't go down very well - I completely forgot Paxo was basically bread! :\: LOL the number of times we had to cook pasta all over again as ended using the same fork to try both pots of pasta! Oops

Also the Organic Food Place has fresh bread on Tuesdays :D

I don't know of any good restaurants that cater for coeliacs but most have options if you call ahead and let them know and sometimes you can ask to speak to the chef and they can tell you what are the coeliac friendly meals. I would personally recommend the Meydan as when they knew my MIL was coeliac intolerant they prepared a 5 course meal for her separately (it was a buffet when we went there) and even prepared fresh gluten free bread for her! Also the boardwalk by the creek are quite good as they bring the chef out to speak with too! HTH

Seriously this is very scary, this is me being paranoid perhaps but this could start a black market sale for all these guns to non locals! :( Oh please, do you think that these are not readily available for those who want them. I've kept my own name after getting married and in fact have also had a similar chat with DH about taking my name as his is a double hyphenated name and he prefers mine anyway! His only issue would be his family and how they would take it.. either way our kids will have a hyphenated last name combining mine and his! I think in this day and age, its what suits the family more:)

I have 2 mix breed medium sized dogs (girl and boy) and live in Springs 1, very interested please! have only used kennels once and was a horrific experience so now always try to get friends/family to stay at our house while we are away so would be great to know if we have other options? Oh and no kids but they are children friendly with all our friends' kids.

I have a small dyson hand held "animal" vacuum - gets rid of cat's hair from the sofa / cushions Second this. I have the large dyson Animal and it does a great job with my cats' hair, can't imagine living without it now! Thank you so much! I will give it a go as hubby is now starting to have "allergies" more often than not and would like to curb this asap! I mean it hasn't helped that dogs have been molting a lot as well.. although it has stopped there is still a lot of hair left on our couch covers etc. Thanks a lot ladies! @hilsbils I can confirm that I am now having my coffee :D
