Hello Ladies..
I have recently read an older thread on the forum posted by "Alicia"... in regards to flying home to Australia to give birth to baby no.3... I was hoping to get in contact with you (Alicia) or anyone else for that matter who has done the same..
Would love to hear from you.. a b b a d a b b a @ y 7 m a i l . c o m

Righty-o. I passed theexam despite going in not having ANY idea about it.. thought I would come back and post a little info for anyone in the future searching for ANY info on this Registered Nurse exam with Prometric (for DHA).
- The exam has 70 multiple choice question (A,B,C,D - only ever four options).
- You have 2 hours to complete it.
- It is both THEORY and NURSING PROCEDURES
- Common nursing 'sense' is a big part of the exam, but do study..
The questions that I could remember answering involved the following topics: (no pens/paper/watches/phones/tissues or any personal belonging for that matter are allowed in study room - just you and your clothing!)
Diabetes - Insulin (actions of ie. short/long acting) & glucose doses
Illeostomy/colostomy care (& types of poo!)
Cholecystectomy incisions (open)
COPD, care
CVA - post cardiac surgery care, pain management & ambulation
Amputation & stump care
STI's (women)
Post cesarean problems (pulm. embolism)
Care of infant - feeding position
Eyes surgery & problems
Palliative care
Pain management
Assessment of pt. pre ortho procedure - arthroscopy
Quadriplegic - range of motion exercises (home care)
Nursing priorities - care plans
Amputation - infection & antibiotics
Infectious diseases - precautions (TB, MRSA etc.)
APGAR score
Botulism - cause
PICC home care
Cardiac rhythm (VT, life threatening)
Thrombosis care/needs.
That's just the questions I could think of when I left the exam, obviously there more topics but the above should give you an idea on what to study.
The NCLEX study guide is helpful but a little overwhelming and very detailed.. but some questions on Prometric are 'tricky' like the NCLEX questions in the study guide. I also had a look through Lippincott's Nursing Procedure 5th ed. and that was a BIG help.. good book.
Good luck! Take a lucky charm with you (I continued to wear the plastic bracelet my two year old put on my wrist that morning!), have a good sleep/breakfast and go in with a positive attitude. I sat the 10am exam and recommend that sensible time slot (not too early and not waiting around all day for the afternoon slot)
Hope this helps! :)
