Just be aware that these cases are not always cut and dried. This exact thing happened to a friend of mine - they had proof that the LL rented it out to a new tenant with a massive increase in rent. It went back and forth over several months in court, they spent a small fortune.....and LOST. Even though everything could seemingly be in your favour, at the end of the day, it depends who is sitting in the chair, what mood they're in and whether the LL has any wasta. The whole RERA, Rent Committee thing to help tenants is a joke. If that's true then It's appalling that they would go against the law... Having said that this LL wouldn't need a lawyer if he had any real Wasta. And judges would likely abide by the rules if the victim had an arabic lawyer who would stand for them rather than just a western expat clueless of what is being discussed in court...

Honestly you need to lawyer up to be on a level playing field with the landlord. Then ask your lawyer to request a copy of the Ejari. It should be a straight forward case after that and the compensation should more than make up for it.

Our maid is from Sri Lanka and has been looking after our 2 kids and our villa for the past 7 years. We pay her 2200 dhs per months and buy her groceries along with ours so I'd say it's probably an additional 300 dhs a month. Other costs to factor in are the annual visa renewals (6000 dhs) the optional health insurance (700 dhs), annual flight back to home country (2000 dhs), birthdays, xmas, etc... All in all we budget around 3300 dhs per month or 40,000 dhs per year

Hoping it's more from suspended dust than exhaust fumes but then again, the closer the sensor is to traffic nodes the worst the reading (like the Trade center roundabout area for Zabeel). PM2.5 is supposedly the most hazardous particles type as it tends to accumulate in the lungs over time...

I was buying products from my hairdresser and she was selling it way more expensive. I order from this website as it showed discounted price and was about 30-40% less. I am shocked to see products are fake. I have been using same product since years and always buy from salon. Can anyone suggest what step i can take? I already opened the products and used it. Smell is different, packing is almost same but it's not delivering the result. anywhere I can complain? Sorry for your bad experience but I think you're a bit naive. How can you be shocked that they're fake if they're 30-40% less than you've been paying for years? Miracles don't exist you know. As many things are actually 30-40% more expensive here than in the US, I don't find that naive at all. Take running shoes for example, I went to Dubai mall a few weeks back to try some new Asics shoes, I looked at the ridiculous price tag then ended up ordering them through Amazon and got them delivered here. Amazon price + shipping cost + import tax = all in about 20% cheaper than in Dubai Mall. The shocking truth is that despite no sales tax and cheap labor, many brands sell their items with huge mark-ups from European/US prices because Dubai is branded a "shopping destination" and they have more than enough customers who are not price sensitive...

Thanks for the feedback! Good to see there is some truth in those offers even though they don't disclose everything up front (like this sneaky 2% processing fee). I've had bad prior experience with banks using deceiving wording on their offers to avoid cash back like saying it only accumulates on "retail" transactions which exclude all other payments like Dewa, phone bills...

I know this thread is almost 2 year old but I was wondering if anyone has successfully used their credit card to get a discount on school fees? Some offers look (too) good: For instance, Standard Chartered offers the Titanium card which gives up to 10% discount on school fees and they even provide cheques with the discount if your school doesn't accept credit card payment. On top of that it's up to 10% on Dewa, supermarkets... What's the catch? Is this too good to be true?

Good point blondie007. I actually dont mind & even welcome the Dubai bashing articles as they tend to deter stupid and ignorant people from coming to our part of the world. Let them go get wasted in Ibiza instead...

Beware of those tests though they're sometimes a bit of a scam... Most of the time the test just reacts to the minerals inside the water as reverse osmosis block most of them. I remember being horrified by the test results on my tap water back in Europe but I then asked the rep to duplicate the test on a glass of Evian water and the results were very similar...

Mines have been helping themselves to the fridge and napping in the guest room. I really don't know what to do. If you don't want them to use your toilet, just say no or may be you could drive them to the holier than thou ladies of this thread who have offered to open theirs on a daily basis.

Air pollution might also be a big factor in how you feel. I usually check the air quality before exercising outdoor and it's been particularly bad over the past 6 months... You can check the aqicn website to get a generally up-to-date & realistic snapshot for the air quality (focus on the sensors that measure the pm2.5 concentration as it's the most health damaging) aqicn.org/city/uae/dubai/zabeel-park
