From 24/7 news Expect knock on your door in Dubai between 4.30-9.30pm Surveyors will visit household from February 28 to May 16 By Parag Deulgaonkar Published Wednesday, March 23, 2016 The Dubai Statistics Center has commenced population statistics 2016, which it says will help to enable proper decision making and strategic development processes for a happier society and future generation. In a notice issued, the center said their representatives would be visiting household across the emirate between February 28 and May 16, 2016, from 4.30 pm to 9.30 pm for data collection purposes. Residents are being asked to ensure full cooperation with the surveyor by providing accurate and comprehensive data. “Real estate developers and residential areas to allow the surveyors access and facilitate his/her tasks in meeting with the targeted families,” the notice states. According to the Law No (28) of 2015, the Centre is tasked with the design and implementation of population studies and social and economic statistical surveys at the Dubai level as well as building and managing a new and integrated statistical system for the collection, analysis, processing and dissemination of data and information and official statistical indices. Citing the law, the centre assures all on maintaining the confidentiality of the information and has taken all necessary precautions to ensure the use of information is merely for the statistical purposes. The notice states that all of their representatives will be holding valid IDs. “We kindly request you not to disclose your data to any surveyor who does not an ID and report the incident immediately as he/she does not represent the centre,” it adds. Ajman to begin census In March 2016, WAM reported that the Ajman Statistics and Research Department of the Secretariat General of the Executive Council was preparing to launch the pilot phase of a census of buildings, houses, families and economic facilities in areas such as Mushairef, Al Nuaimiya, Jurf and Ajman industrial areas, Al Rashidiya, Masfoot and Manama. It has called on residents to cooperate with field researchers. The information provided will be only used for statistical purposes. Sharjah census nearing completion However, Sharjah had commenced population census to gather data of all residences, properties, individuals and households in October 2015 and completed the task in January 2016. Carried out by the Department of Statistics and Community Development, the census collected data from families and individuals residing in the emirate. The committee said it has commenced data compiling to validate its accuracy, which means the data gathered will be crosschecked with personal data such as ID number, date of birth and other aspects under focus.

I haven't seen any like this but I bet it would be easy to make. Nip to Daiso, get a cheap pair of sunglasses, take off the sides and glue onto the top of a black stick with superglue (they sell black wands in there, or similar sticks you could paint black) :)

Can you recommend a good spot for viewing? Are they actually at The Beach or elsewhere? Fireworks are from 3 boats right next to the stretch of land (Hilton side) where the big wheel is being built. Sit opposite there.

Yes just put it under your white goods then and maybe in the area at the back of your cupboards where the cats don't go. It's about 6 or 7 dirhams a tub from the pharmacy.

Lily you get it from the pharmacy. Life pharmacy have it. Move and clean under your white goods in the kitchen and sprinkle a thin talc like layer on the floor under them. I also do the edges of my cupboards. If you already have cockroaches, sprinkle a layer on the kitchen floor as well for two or three days and anywhere they have been. Takes about a week or two to get rid completely. Always works for me, I get roaches once in a while but after using this method there's never been an infestation. [u'>Cockroach Elimination - Boric Acid[/u'> http://www2.ca.uky.edu/entomology/entfacts/ef614.asp [i'>For best results, the powder should be applied in a very thin layer barely visible to the naked eye. Piles or heavy accumulations will be avoided by foraging cockroaches much as we would avoid walking through a snow drift. To apply a fine layer, shake the container and puff a small quantity of the powder into the target area. Manufacturers of boric acid often fill their containers too full of powder -- by using a container which is no more than two-thirds full, an airspace is created at the top which allows the dust to be puffed more easily (A few pennies or pebbles placed inside the container helps prevent the powder from caking). The trick is to give the container a shake, then puff a very light dusting of the powder into the area you wish to treat.[/i'>

Diamante I have had odd cockroaches every year no matter where Ive lived, appt and villa. Most I had was about 20 one year and I have always managed to get rid of them using boric acid. I have never had to call the pest control out. I never worry about the roaches myself i just sprinkle the boric acid under the white goods in the kitchen or wherever theyve been seen and it takes about a week for them to die off, but those little pesky ants are driving me nuts. They pop up everywhere and are quite resilient.

Tessa, The Sound of Music is most definitely a [i'>Spring[/i'> movie not a Christmas one!!! Got through Love Actually and Home Alone so far. Couch Tattie, They always used to put Sound of Music and Wizard of Oz on Boxing day when I was a kid, so I think they could be classed as one. ;) I liked the movie where the dad becomes a snowman in the garden.

I'm showing my age here, but when I was younger we had a hollowed out turnip, no pumpkins, with the candle in. We used to put them on peoples walls or doorsteps, ring the bell and hide :) I don't think we ever got much more than shouted at. Haha! Geordie same with us. We carved a turnip as well. It was quite difficult carving out the inside I remember. We did the penny for the guy as well. No-one had any money where I lived, so there were no sweets. We were lucky if we got 10p after traipsing in the drizzle. Ah those were the days ;)

Poshbird, When I first came here my hair fell out a lot, but like you, I never really noticed it thinning. I did notice more shedding at certain times of the year though (after summer, autumn time), but it has settled down now and is coarser and thicker. Someone on here a while back mentioned castor oil for hair fall (think it was Mrs B, it worked for her). Do a google, there's lots of interesting information on castor oil for hair regrowth and also some before/after videos. http://www.stylecraze.com/articles/castor-oil-for-hair-growth/

Hi everyone. What do people do when they have a clear out and went to get rid of their old clothes in Dubai? So used to the charity shops in the UK ? Shame to get rid of clothes that someone else could wear and enjoy. Thanks. Peachylady, put a couple carrier bags of the clothes near the door to the rubbish chute on your floor. This will give the workman/cleaners the first opportunity to look through the clothes to see if there's anything they want and then they will take anything they don't want downstairs to the clothes bank (which is in the parking area).

Hi, its an extra dose on top of the 2 most children already have, according to the letter we have had, via school, from Dubai Government, it is compulsory unless you have a good medical reason. It is apparently to try and eradicate measles. I understand the desire but like others have said, I am not happy about giving extra doses of vaccinations, like most parents I have followed all the rules and recommended vaccinations however I am not happy about the idea of being forced to give my child a 3rd MMR. I have ticked no on my form and will wait to see....... Did you give a copy of the vaccination history to the school with the form? Mine have had two already as well.

Chezmoi I am so sorry to hear about your mum, bless her. I remember my mother saying her father who died of cancer (a long time ago when she was a young girl, long before I was born) was bedridden and unresponsive for months before he died, but one day he got out of the bed and walked to the window and was really lucid for a while, chattering away which he hadn't done for months. He then got back into his bed and died shortly afterwards. I am glad you got those extra precious moments with your mum which you will treasure forever. Thinking about you. x

[u'>Billionaire offers to buy Med island for refugees[/u'> Egyptian billionaire Naguib Sawiris has offered to buy an island off Greece or Italy and develop it to help hundreds of thousands of people fleeing from Syria and other conflicts. The telecoms tycoon first announced the initiative on Twitter. "Greece or Italy sell me an island, I'll call its independence and host the migrants and provide jobs for them building their new country," he wrote. More than 2,300 people have died at sea trying to reach Europe since January, many of them Syrians who fled their country's four-and-a-half year conflict. Sawiris said in a television interview that he would approach the governments of Greece and Italy about his plan. Asked by AFP whether he believed it could work, he said: "Of course it's feasible." "You have dozens of islands which are deserted and could accommodate hundreds of thousands of refugees." Sawiris said an island off Greece or Italy could cost between $10 million and $100 million, but added the "main thing is investment in infrastructure". There would be "temporary shelters to house the people, then you start employing the people to build housing, schools, universities, hospitals. "And if things improve, whoever wants to go back (to their homeland) goes back," said Sawiris, whose family developed the popular El Gouna resort on Egypt's Red Sea coast. He conceded such a plan could face challenges, including the likely difficulty of persuading Greece or Italy to sell an island, and figuring out jurisdiction and customs regulations. But those who took shelter would be treated as "human beings," he said. "The way they are being treated now, they are being treated like cattle." Sawiris is the chief executive of Orascom TMT, which operates mobile telephone networks in a number of Middle Eastern and African countries plus Korea as well as underwater communications networks. He also owns an Egyptian television channel. Source http://www.emirates247.com/news/world/billionaire-offers-to-buy-med-island-for-refugees-2015-09-03-1.602279

So what happens to your phone number if your visa runs out and you have to do visa runs? An article in the paper today said that if you do not renew the number, the number and phone service will be suspended and you have up to three (3) months (I think) to turn in the appropriate paperwork. If you fail to do that, then the number will be lost and go back into circulation. So those whose visa runs out and they revert back to their tourist visa and do visa runs will they have their telephone disconnected within 3 months?. We did visa runs for around 6 months a while back.
