Chippy I know you already mentioned Daiso, but did you try the branch in Dubai Mall, it is bigger and has a better selection. I'm sure they had a few wigs that could pass for shaggy. I went there couple weeks ago (Halloween time). I'm sure DM would have a shop that sells wigs, they have everything. Someone mentions a possible place here http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic134782-dragonmart--animal-dress-up-costumes-.aspx edited by Alismum on 26/11/2014

Thanks for the list. Wonder if Downtown will be super busy, is it worth treking up there for the parade. Yes nice avatar. I had to google what a Tattie Bogle was, I'd never heard of the word before. I thought it was a type of potato. edited by Alismum on 26/11/2014

I have much respect for the veterans on here including DesertRose and the like. Their words are gold and although I don't post as much on here, I really value their input in discussions. Hats off to you too, Di! What you wrote is an absolute Malcolm Taylor material! I agree

Wow that's really interesting Di. You must be one of the earliest expats on here (?) Were you a toddler when you came out here in 1975 then? ;) Unfortunately not a toddler! So now you have my age figured :) not sure if I am the oldest oldie though on here, I think are one or two others around the same time as me but probably I'm ranking pretty high on that scale! HaHa! I thought you were younger than me. Of course I am only 21 myself ;) edited by Alismum on 26/11/2014

I like the bling and shopping malls, not that I'm a spendthrift or anything like that, but I like city life, hate rural living....... edited by Alismum on 26/11/2014

I used Firefox. Fairydust mine didn't look as if it worked either, but it could be that it's in the pending pile wating for admin approval. Ok, will wait and see. Didn't see it in the upload box though. No mine didn't show either. Looked like nothing was attached.

Fair enough, taxis here are extremely cheap and so many other options of transport are available. As a European we are used to walk, bicylcle and whatever in rain and snow. When I was last in the UK I offered a taxi driver a fortune to give us a lift home. It was 1am, freezing cold and the taxi queue was 40 people deep. I for one don't mind the increase in fares as it is preferable to standing in the freezing cold at 1am ( [b'>We are so spoilt here[/b'>) :-) Don't say that as next thing you know, they will be upping something else. Guinness was only asking last week, why the metro has gone up since predominantly lower income workers are using it, since she said that, taxis have also gone up..... and no doubt there will be more. As cheap as it may be (to some of us), all these extras add up. edited by Alismum on 25/11/2014 I should edit that to say I am spoilt. I rarely use metros or cabs but see your point regarding the lower income workers on the metro x I was just saying that in case there are decision makers reading EW (one never knows ) ;).

I did the avatar as well but I don't see my flower. :( I resized it, captcha thingie and it accepted it but so far no flower. Think it was a gif. I also tried name change. If my flower didn't work then I may change it to something else. Try doing it again without changing your name, according to admin reply that has to be done by email not on the profile page although it appears to be possible since you can input a new name. I think it also needs to be a Jpeg, however I have tried all this and still nothing! OK gonna choose another one later. :)

Tattie I feel like you. I wanted to be the first to push them off on their bikes and watch them ride away. Nearly collapsed in a pile mind you after pushing my littlest around JBR for two hours. Mara my eldest was 5 and my youngest 6 and they both had trainer wheels for a year beforehand. Maybe your little boy is a bit young.

Mara, How old is your son?. I taught both my boys how to ride their bikes, took me a couple days both times. Some people remove the pedals first, I never did with mine, but I hear that it might be a quicker method i.e teaching balance first. Did you try this method? Have a look at these videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqgCxgd3l2g http://www.babycenter.com/2_how-to-teach-your-child-to-ride-a-bike_10354840.bc

Aroha did you do a virus check. Also can you download iTunes from another PC and save it to USB. Sorry never encountered your problem before. Maybe someone could download iTunes for you and email it to you. I could try if you want, then at least you could reinstall it and see if you can download the tunes again. Also Google " iTunes disappeared". I saw some with similar issue as yours. I can't give you a link at the moment as am using my phone.

Norak I'm surprised you said that C4 don't have any. I got a couple around 100AED a few years back, and they always had a lot of different ones. On their website they have this one for 109Dirhams MIDEA 16" STAND FAN FS408PR [url=https://www.carrefouruae.com/webstore/AppImages/ProductImages/Standard/86896.jpg'>link[/url'> 109 AED and a couple more for just under 200Dirhams. They have some of the 109Dirhams in stock so ring up and order one, or do it online. Also you could ask them to check in the store room in the shop, sometimes they are too lazy to check and often tell you they don't have something without looking, so you need to insist a bit, or ask a more helpful worker in there.. [url=https://www.carrefouruae.com/webstore/Default.aspx'>link[/url'> DragonMart do have them, but I would be wary of buying one from there in case you need to take it back. C4 will fix or replace easier, and it's not as far as DM. edited by Alismum on 22/11/2014

If the government is hurting for cash, why didn't they raise Salik? By and large, the people who drive cars to work are earning more than those who take the Metro. Or raise the price of gas? My only question - and it doesn't affect me one way or another because I live so far from the metro, I could never ever take it, is why did the government choose to raise Metro prices by so much when many of the people who ride the metro aren't swimming in money. You are right Guinness in that the majority of workers who use the metro are low income earners and that double the fare is going to affect those workers enormously. I don't know why it was done. Perhaps there can be some concessions for those whose earning are below a set rate. I know some of the regular travellers can buy a different coloured card which may make journey's cheaper, but not sure by how much.

I just don't know how to drive my Ferrari OR my Maserati. So I just keep it in the MOE valet parking so people can take pictures. Ha!Ha!! In fact I don't know why more people don't take the buses, they are clean, fast, run regularly and are hardly ever full. A bus from Ibn Battuta takes me 8 mins and then I am home. It takes me much longer to get the Masarati out and then I have trouble with reverse parking it ;) edited by Alismum on 21/11/2014

Beebers it took me about 30 mins in total coming home from MoE (3 Dirham total cost). 10 mins up to Marina Station on metro. Then I had to wait 10 mins in Marina tram Station as I'd just missed one. Then about 10 mins up to JBR2. If you are lucky with the timings I think it could be done in around 20 mins. On the way there take off 5 mins travel time as the tram journey is shorter. edited by Alismum on 20/11/2014
