I have been on the tram a few times now as it's on my doorstep and really convenient. My son has to go to Knowledge Village every day so it's been a Godsend for him. Prior to the tram he was walking to the metro and having to catch a bus as well. I fully expected it to be empty but I even saw businessmen in suits taking it on the mornings I have been on it. I noticed it was faster yesterday as well, I went up to MoE on tram and metro and did all my shopping, so yes I am one of the happy ones, no complaints from me. :)

Izzy and Amelia have got a large amount of red thumbs for their posts (why??). Should we take that to mean that the majority of posters like the new format? I personally do like it, although it's taking a bit of getting used to. Be even better when the new fix is sorted. :)

Have a look at Coursera courses. I notice they have a few [i'>free[/i'> Psychology courses and even if the course has ended you can still complete the course in your own time if you log onto their site. [url=https://www.coursera.org/course/socialpsychology'>link[/url'> [url=https://www.coursera.org/course/intropsych'>link[/url'> Also check Udemy and Edx as well. Unless it is "Kind Regards," the way the word kind or kindly is used in email sometimes grates me Okay need to add, while this may age me, abbreviated words that are spoken. I don't mean saying FYI, or FUBAR, but things like "defo" instead of definitely, "totes" instead of totally, and the list goes on. edited by Beebers on 14/11/2014 Completely forgot those. How can I forget AmazeBALLS? horrible. I literally (hehe) cannot tolerate amaze balls. Was absolutely disgusted to hear an over 40 year old woman use it to describe something... Tenny boppers I'd let it slide once or twice, but they overuse it as well. What does amazeballs mean? I have never heard anyone say this word.

The tram launch is so exciting as is the arrival of peace and quiet in the Marina, well our part anyway. We've been sleeping so well over the last week and I'm even getting used to the 'bing bing bing' sound the tram makes. Does anyone know where exactly the VIP reception is tonight i.e. where the most congestion will be? I'm trying to figure out whether to take the metro home or attempt to drive. the VIP reception is around 5pm Alismum, I ran along the beach this morning and they have opened what looks like a new shisha lounge (furniture still wrapped in plastic) called Smoke. [/b'> I get the feeling that they are doing ground work to open more places like this and there is an area that says 'market stalls' or something. It does feel like it just opened and is being dug up again, but the beach is open and operational. I see people on the beach, renting umbrellas and beds and the kids water park and the bouncy castle in the sea are open too, there just seems to be construction between the jogging path and the beach. FFx That's great, not that I want to go myself, but the atmosphere was lovely on the beach when it was open. I took my LO to the movies last week in the Beach complex to see BoxTrolls and we had the place to ourselves. First time I've ever been to the movies and been the only one in there. Maybe the tram will encourage more people to visit the beach and The Walk. edited by Alismum on 11/11/2014

I can't see it being that successful as few people really go from the marina to al sufouh! The only thing it will do is make parking at Marina mall that much more congested as people park there to go to JBR. Ugh. They will probably start charging for parking too :( ....."[i'>Build it and they will come[/i'>" ..... [img'>http://www.freesmileys.org/emoticons/emoticon-object-009.gif[/img'> Give it time. :) I remember standing in an empty Dubai Mall in the early days on a weekend, thinking "where are they gonna get the folks from that will come here and fill this huge mall". edited by Alismum on 11/11/2014

Beebers, Do you ever go to the beach?. I went to the beach couple days back and the place where the shisha cafe near the sea is gone (it was just a bit further than Hilton), and the little park is not there either. I see boards up, something about a market on the beach coming soon. Wondered if you or anyone knows anything about that. http://i.imgur.com/QwNKv7Jl.jpg edited by Alismum on 11/11/2014

I think for her own sake something (in house) should be mentioned regarding this action. Should someone complain formally to the police etc she will be imprisoned and then deported. This is not acceptable here in the UAE (or in most countries I would think). I wonder what her poor teenage son was thinking. Certainly I would not want my 10year daughter seeing this and thinking it is OK because it is not. [b'>Topless sunbathing is pretty standard in Europe[/b'>.... It is but not normally at the swimming pool. I lived in a few European countries and only saw the topless bathers in the park, or beach (or nackt sauna). edited by Alismum on 09/11/2014

I agree Daza, It does seem rather strange that she was stood there in front of her teenage son. I think teen boys would run a mile if they saw their mum taking her top off in front of them. Perhaps this woman was wearing a flesh coloured bikini and it looked see-through when wet. I really can't believe someone would be topless in a communal pool (even in Europe it wouldn't be acceptable), they have gotta be a bit dim, or brazen. Chewit so what did you do in the end? edited by Alismum on 08/11/2014

My sons school doesn't allow food/candy of any sort, but some of the kids bring little stickers, erasers, pencils, headphones, generally plastic bits and bobs. Go to somewhere like Daiso (or [url=http://www.daytodayonline.com/'>Day to Day[/url'> in Deira) and you can pickup little trinkets and pretty bags to put them in. edited by Alismum on 07/11/2014

I would never have a maid, because I like the privacy. But those who do have, who can blame them. There's a huge expanse of flooring (including stairs in some places), all tiled or marbled which constantly needs brushing/hoovering of hairs and crumbs, then afterwards mopping. Most places have 3 or 4 bathrooms, that's 3 or 4 toilets to clean everyday!! We are only in a 2 bed but we have 3 bathrooms/loos and if the water quality is bad, then the toilet bowl is constantly brown!!!. . There's a bucket-load of dust everywhere, all of the time (even floors). And because it's hot all year, clothes need to be changed twice or three times a day which means more washing and huge piles of ironing, and because of all the showers the bathrooms are constantly grubby and wet, and the baths have scum and grime from all the sweaty bodies. And let's not forget the balcony's.... full of construction dust and bird poop. Added to this the fact that there's no extended family/friends to watch over your kids for an hour or two. Back at home, the cleaning meant hoovering the carpet, washing up, washing machine on a couple times a week and twice weekly ironing, and generally the bath was good to go for a week with minimum scrubbing, and a drop of bleach down the toilet was fine. Cleaning over here imo is twice as hard and more time consuming. edited by Alismum on 06/11/2014

This always happens. They use their phone credit very quickly and then have nothing left. I give my maids credit at the beginning of each month for their personal use. I don't expect them to use it for work purposes. When they need to call me, they use my landline. [b'>You can get a block put on so your maid cannot call internationally.[/b'> However, you cannot get an itemized bill for calls made to local cell phones so you would just need to be aware of that. Yes you could do this. My home phone has a facility to only accept 04 numbers being dialled. You just block those with beginning with 00 and 05. Check the instructions on your phone. Also I just installed Whatsapp after the ladies on here told me how (it was so easy) and all smses are free to another person using Whatsapp. If you have wifi at home maybe she could this app to contact her family for free, so her credit won't run out as fast. Just a thought.

I will get a Belkin then. What you said makes sense SL :) LovelyLilies I have Samsung Galaxy, it's pretty new (10 months old), I will have a look at the settings. Buy a router from anywhere-- will cost you around 100-200 first plug in into your PC to do settings (LAN cable coming from wall will go into router) and choose PW once done then directly connect router to wall socket with LAN cable Check your Cell phone/PC/TV for wireless signals ( like 4-5 bars) , press connect and it will ask for PW,type same PW you choose.. You have got 'WiFi" :) Thanks, hopefully it'll be that easy. Am off to C4 on Wed, so will pick one up then :)

If I buy one of these routers, can I get wifi on telephone as well as laptop then? Does that mean you just change your settings on Whatsapp to accept only chats and pictures from wifi and you don't have to pay for any extra bundles. SarahLou, my laptop is in the mains as well. Alismum, if you have the Broadband, talk surf and watch then you have wifi at home. When the wifi was originally set up you should have set it up with a passkey and this is what is needed to log in to your wifi. If you don't know your wifi passkey then I suggest getting in touch with DU to reset it for you. Wifi at home would then be included in your monthly package and no need to pay for expensive data bundles. Really!, I have had this package for about 5 years now and the guy never said anything about wifi. I will nip to DU then as I need to pay the bill anyway. I will ask them. Thank you ladies, it's amazing what info you can get on here, am so grateful. edited by Alismum on 27/10/2014

AM, that is a good idea to buy the pre-paid data packages for du. With Etisilat, I just punch in a code to subscribe every week and it pulls from the credits on my phone. I have a du data card for my iPad (haven't used it in ages) and if memory serves, the 50 dhs option for 100MB was the best deal. The 20MB did not get far. If you get the 50 dhs/100MB package, it automatically expires in 30 days or upon using all the 100MB, whichever occurs first. I'm in the marina also, and have a combo package with du for the house, with wifi. Had they told you when you signed up that they didn't offer wifi in this area, or am I misunderstanding you? There is wifi here Beebers, but I don't think it's part of my package. Perhaps it's a separate payment. When I turn on my wireless on the laptop it asks for a passkey I have the broadband Talk, Surf and Watch. Have you got a router in the house? pick one up and you can have WIFI I also have surf, talk and watch package and use WIFI in the house Thanks Sarah, is it easy to set up if I buy one. Maybe all this time I could have had wifi at home and I didn't know it.

Well it was me that was "outed" yesteday - not that is really an "outing" as quite a few of you know who i am in the real world and i am neither ashmaed of myself or of Izzy. Many of you who do know me, also know that i say what i think all of the time. I also agree with Guiness, that whoever it was, needs some help. This is not the first time that this user has tried to out me, or sent me abusive emails and facebook messages (which have reported to our mods btw - so they are as ineffectual as we think they are). Anyone who spends years (yes it has been years) sending ****** emails, facebook message and snarky EW posts against a user needs sectioning and needs to get a life. Sorry to hear this Izzy, wonder why someone would do this.. I didn't see the post myself.

Thanks ladies I have one of those TV, PC and Phone DU Home packages, no free wifi in this area (Marina/JBR). Beebers, I don't have Etisalat, but did have a quick look at DU (since you mentioned your package) and have just seen that a data bundle is 20Dirhams per month for upto 40MB and 50Dirhams for 100MB. Maybe I can just buy a 20 Dirham top up card and put the credit on as Data rather than more time. Is that what you do with Etisalat. Does 40MB go far? I don't use my phone for any social networking or accessing internet, I don't have FB or anything like that. I am a bit behind the times really ;) Just need it to text a few family members and receive some photos. Starbucks and Costa have free wifi. Just ask them for a card and you can log onto their network. Also if I join a group on whatsapp and there are a few chat messages coming through for mum meetups, does that mean that the chats won't come to me until I go to a wifi area (like Starbucks etc).

Hi To avoid Whatsapp images and videos automatically downloading, go on Settings > Chat Settings and choose Wi-fi for all the media. That way it will only use a wireless network (when available) to automatically download incoming pics and videos, wont waste your cellular data/credit unless you choose to download it yourself. OK am going to have a look at the settings now, thanks.

Whatsapp info for dummies required please :) So I put whatsapp on my phone to receive some photos from the England, but there's no wifi connection here and when my family sent me photos it drained all my credit (around 30 Dirhams worth). For those that use it, do you buy a seperate data package per month (or pay as you go data)? or do you keep the wifi on all the time. Should I turn off the mobile data on the phone when using it?. My phones not big enough to access internet, just a cheapo one really, and I don't use it enough to want to pay a monthly internet charge. I thought Whatsapp was free, what am I doing wrong? edited by Alismum on 27/10/2014

During the "wait" of 5 hours, I heard shuffling and noise in my kitchen, I went in and the eldest of the 3 girls was, with shopping bags in her hands, going through my fridge and cupboards, filling several shopping bags full of food - fresh, frozen, and canned. I was shocked! The father finally arrived to collect his daughters at 11:00pm!! The girls left, with shopping bags full of food in hand. They left my home with several frozen chickens, a leg of lamb, minced meat, canned tomatoes, tomatoes and beans, fresh milk, fresh fruit and vegetables, and several bottle of olive oil. NEVER AGAIN!!! It has been a year, I am still traumatized, and I still can't believe this girl behaved in this manner. Nooooo Mrs B. why didn't you tell the girls to put the items back? I can't believe their father (an Imam no less) letting his daughters walk out with stolen goods....... what cheek, did he think it was a charity donation or what!!!!

I haven't seen it anywhere, but the Iranian stores in Satwa and Deira have bitter almonds (baadoom talkh) and apricot kernels which are high in vitamin B17.
