Very sorry to hear this, but it's unfortunately common for LLs to keep deposits for no reason other than greed. [b'>One typical way to try and ensure you get your money back is to change the locks and refuse to hand over the keys until you've been paid,[/b'> but obviously that doesn't help you. Where do you stand? I hate to have to tell you this, but now that you've handed the property back and left the country you have no leverage at all. If you know anyone still in Dubai willing to chase up the LL you could try that route, but you're entirely reliant on the LL choosing to play fair, and by the sounds of things he doesn't want to. edited by Madge_Gustard on 25/10/2014 But Madge, the LL could just get a locksmith to change the locks again. I knew someone who locked himself out of his flat, when he came back from holiday he had no keys and had to get the locksmith to sort him out. Cost him a couple hundred. OP so sorry to hear this. Was an Estate Agent involved in your rental? Did they witness the signing of your contract? You could try contacting them.

No, I do not work for The British Lasik I was just giving my honest feedback being a customer at that clinic for the last few months ! Do you work for Atlanta Vision? It was my DD who went to Atlanta, not me. [b'>Being 70 years of age and having recently had a heart attack - no I don't work for them!! [/b'> If you do not work there, I apologise. However, when two people with a small number of posts recommend somewhere, I'm afraid many people, rightly or wrongly, will assume that they are in some way connected with the place. Amelia, I am sorry to hear this, hope you are well now and looking after yourself.

Lucky's is my No.1 -- afterall, it was born and bred in Leeds, UK! So I'm a little biased. Papa Johns is also on a very close par with my first choice. edited by roberts on 22/10/2014 Oh no, not Leeds! I should give you a thumbs down for that lol ;) Hahaha, now now neighbour. Ummuhammad thankyou for the explanation of the cultural differences in present giving. I personally wasn't talking about Arabs, but DH is from this region, and he said the 'underplaying' of gratitude is generally because they are disappointed that they didn't receive cash. I don't expect anyone to open their present enthusiastically in front of me, but yes I was brought up to consider it rude if a person gives barely a thank you. Next time I give a gift though I'll be mindful of what you said and look at it differently... always eager to learn :)

I recently went home and in the shops, restaurants, pubs etc they were all happy as larry and couldn't be more helpful. More than 2 people queuing a new till opens up, cant find something on the shelves they ring around for you , bar staff serving people in order, doors being held open for you, people helping my Sister and I carry a pram down steps the list was endless. It was joy to be there. omg - where is this parallel universe of which you speak ?? lol Chester Liverpool Manchester :-) Guess I need to move north then !! lol Definitely, and it gets better the further North you go ;) Couldn't agree more ;-) lovely people Us Northerners were brung up right :) I can't understand this gift thing either. Hardly an acknowledgment from some people. DH says it's because they would have rather had the cash. I do agree with DT though, I haven't encountered that many ignorant folks on my travels. There are a few, but not any more than anywhere else I've been, and I am out and about all the time.

I can see this taking off here, now where can i buy one? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1290958/Would-YOU-wear-winge-fringe-thats-wig.html No kidding, these would definitely take off, they may find a niche in the ME. Ladies in headscarfs that have their fringe showing (as a fashion statement) would wear something like this I think. The next time I nip across the sea and am required to wear a headscarf, I may buy the orange one for myself :) <em>edited by Alismum on 18/10/2014</em>

The feather light trigger on banning for every small infraction is what really turned the masses away. Cannot imagine this is the same EW that has a four or five day old thread still up on the first page. And why do threads about Ebola disappear lightning fast but a post about whether or not ladies fan their abayas to dry *in a pinch* (including sophmoric wizar jokes) are allowed to carry on beyond a reasonable amount of time?? edited by Beebers on 17/10/2014 Beebers re: Ebola, I think threads are being removed probably because talking about Ebola may come under the remit of 'causing panic in the community' (?), which carries a penalty of upto 1mil and even jail. I guess folks are having to be more careful when chatting about news stories these days. Threads about toilet habits are pretty harmless :) [i'>"Dubai: Due care needs to be taken when posting or sharing information on social media because rumour-mongering is a criminal offence in the UAE. With all due respect, DubaiDee, significant hair loss is usually a medical problem. There is only so much you can do for your hair with products. It could be hormonal, related to PCOS and can even be food intolerance - to wheat or dairy for example. In addition, different type's of hair reacts completely differently to different treatments. I'd refer anyone who is concerned about their hair to an endocrinologist first. I agree, I think some of us are not spring chickens anymore and around pre/menopause the hair can naturally thin a bit as well, and the texture can change. (ETA not that I mean Guinness, who is probably 21 or something), but some of the others on this thread, myself included ;) <em>edited by Alismum on 15/10/2014</em>

Crafty, google the before and after pictures for castor oil and hair loss. I hope it works for you. I have often thought about buying myself a wig as well, as I wasn't blessed with luscious locks and the bit I do have is thin, dry and frizzy. Maltese, have a look in the plaster section of Carrefour/Geant or Life Pharmacy/Boots. Mrs B. Did you leave it on overnight, or for how long?? Hi, Do you know the porosity of your hair? It should determine how you care for your hair. Dry / Frizzy hair is just Dehydrated hair that is searching for moisture. If your hair is Low porosity, it finds it difficult to accept moisture, so you need Clarify your hair, then Condition and then Seal the moisture in - preferably with a Gel as it forms a cast - which prevents moisture from escaping the cuticle. Hope this helps :) edited by DubaiDee4c on 14/10/2014 DubaiDee, I did the porous test, but only one hair sank, the others floated. Does that mean that the castor oil is a good treatment for me then. Also what do you think of things like biotin and vitamin D supplements, or other vitamins? <em>edited by Alismum on 14/10/2014</em>

Sima, I bought some castor oil from Life Pharmacy yesterday and mixed with a bit of almond oil. Applied and left on for three hours and then washed off. There's definitely more of a shine to my hair today. Hoping my thin hair becomes more luscious and thick. I also put it on my eyebrows, eyelashes and fine lines (for good measure). If there's any real noticeable improvements and new hair growth I'll report back. Are you trying it as well?

I also suffered terribly from hair loss (mine from wearing my hijab too tightly, I think). I found a hairdresser who swore to me that massaging my hair and scalp regularly with castor oil(mixed with a little almond oil so it is not so thick) would rejuvenate my hair. I did it as I was desperate and was amazed at the results. I have a head of hair again!!! I have been doing it now 2-3 times a week since about October last year. I have heard this before Mrs. B. It can be used on eyebrows and eyelashes as well. Did the castor oil make your hair in better condition?. I wonder if it will be any good for hair that looks like Wurzel Gummidge, that's how mine is at the moment and I have tried many products on it, might give the castor oil a go as well.

I bought one of these from C4, it was only cheap (under 10AED) and I have had it a few years now. Hi Sarah, I've just done it. You have to renew online with credit/debit card. You will need to print off and send the declaration page only together with your photos and passport. DHL have a special rate (I went to Ibn Battuta). Took 20 days in total. ETA:The declaration page will be generated when you have input your details and paid, and you can download and print it off. I wasn't quick enough to print it off and the screen timed out, but when I checked my email, the document was in there ready to print off. edited by Alismum on 07/10/2014 Thank you so much, it has been 10 years since I last renewed so couldn't remember Ha! Ha! yep me too. It was pretty straightforward.

Surely you know her name or have a copy of paperwork from when you sponsored her though? The police should be able to track her through immigration and find her new sponsor. Exactly what I was going to say. I'm sure her new sponsor would like to know too, no doubt she is also stealing from them. we actually sent her back to her home country and then we discover this today. I'm not sure if she is back in Dubai. But I know that the previous one who also stole came back into the country. I just dont want to lose anymore things around the house.[b'> Is there anything that I can do to prevent this?[/b'> Do you have a bedroom that you could use (your bedroom, or a spare room)?. You could put your valuables in there, lock the door and tell her not to clean that room.

Beebers, Know what you mean, I have just come back in and it's a rubbish site outside my place. We did get a notice last week saying that this process will take a month. They are working their socks off down there, so I expect there'll be daily changes. I'm not having any problems crossing the roads mind you, I normally cross near BR and it's not far. What to do cept wait it out and hope that the chaos moves further down the road by then end of the week.

In any other country this could not happen, but the authority in control here just couldn't give a flying flop!! We have not slept properly for 3 months now, this moring at 5:30 we thought a helicopter was landing on our balcony the noise was so loud and the apt was vibrating! I have emailed them and got a standard response that they are copying and pasting on their twitter account. Today though my blood was boiling as i ran through the junction by JBR and the Marina Wharf apts. School kids were navigating diggers and trucks without any crossing or control. I commented to the foreman as i ran through that it was disgraceful there are endangering the lives of school kids, let alone me, to which he replied 'No problem, what to do, its the RTA!' The total disregard for the residents is bewildering and only made worse that the press here are too spineless to report the reality. Wow rant over! Jen it is dangerous, I have crossed that road many times myself and there's no pelican or zebra crossing, you have to walk directly in front of the cars and hope one stops for you. They should have at least one guy helping people cross the road. It makes you wonder if anyone in an official capacity reads the EW boards ;). After I said that there had been issues crossing the road for a month and workers should be helping people across the road, lo and behold the next day guys were out with flags helping people across the road (coincidence??) Anyway just like to say that they have really come a long way and the roads in JBR are mostly clear at the Hilton end and are looking really good. They have been working flat out over the last week and you can see noticeable improvements by the hour. The transformation of the roads has been amazing in the last couple days. Just wish the No8 bus would start coming back down JBR instead of SZR now that the road is clear. <em>edited by Alismum on 19/09/2014</em>

Alismum how is the traffic getting into the Marina ( Around 7ish) , near the Yacht Club end? Sarah I can only see the traffic near the Marina Mall bridge end and the roads near the Hilton. The traffic is flowing a bit better now since they opened couple of the new roads a few hour ago, but it remains to be seen what will happen in rush hour. It's still very messy and could be a few more days until all the roads down JBR/Marina are open. Thank you Sarahlou, I just had a look and there are tailbacks now, must have opened one road and closed another.

I wouldn't be so hasty to change classes at this stage. As you are dropping your son off every morning, nip to her and ask what she meant, sometimes something may sound curt when written down in one sentence in the diary. Keep the communication channel open and work with her. I wouldn't go to the head at this stage, it's early days. In a couple weeks there'll be chance for a first parent teacher meeting.

Just about to do a couple passport renewals and have a quick question for anyone that has recently done their passports. Is the courier fee that's paid online just for the return of the passport? Do I have to organise the courier myself to get the documents to the UK in the first place. If so which courier should I use. From Passport Site [i'>You’ll have to pay a fee for your passport and a courier fee of £19.86. The courier fee pays for your passport and supporting documents to be sent back to you securely.[/i'> as it says clearly, for the documents to be "sent back" to you.... yes you do have to organise the passports to be sent to the uk, they have a special rate with dhl, which is the one i always use, its like 150dhs or was last time i used them, which is cheaper than it would normally cost you to send back a small letter as that is close to 200dhs. you need to take them to dhl and they will fill out the details as they know the address in liverpool etc now. all very easy, just expensive but nowt you can do about it here. the courier fee/s are individual too, so even if you have loads to send together they go separately. edited by busybee2 on 15/09/2014 Thanks Busybee, I will send them with DHL individually, daylight robbery as it is, nowt I can do about it ;)

Even walking is hazardous with a pram. It's like an ever changing cross country adventure! It's crazy, hopefully the main road will be finished tomorrow, it says 15th September in the info we had, and I see the road almost finished from my window. At the moment you take your life in your hands when you try to cross the road as there's no pelican or zebra crossing over the tram lines. The tram line is open 11th November.

In the first instance I would write a note in her diary stating what your daughter has said and to find out what is going on. I would pursue it a week later with a meeting with the teacher if you don't get a satisfactory response, or if your daughter is still complaining.
