Hi everyone, did anybody deal with a company called Greenland (green land) real estate in Dubai, they had an office near trade centre in Al-Attar building. The have given us 15 days post dated cheques which got bounced and apparently office closed down. Trying to open a police case. Waiting for bank papers. We dealt with 3 people there: Shiyam, Deepak and Sanjay If someone knows them and has a photo of the last 2 I'd appreciate if you get in touch with me. TIA

Why when you call any housemaid they ask about the nationality?? Its really weird! I am like hi are you looking for a new employer? Yes maam whats the nationality?!!! Why?! And then they keep asking questions as if they are the one who interviewing youu! I just keep answering questions! Whats wrong with the housemaids?? I say: it's a sign of bad manners. You say hello first, have a few sentences, ask about salaries, duties (especially most probably you made a call to return a missed call) and then ask for nationality. In Dubai not only maids looking for job ask about nationality, strangers do the same. You go shopping and first questions: Maam, what is your nationality? Due to my accent when I talk to customers on the phone some of them pop the same questions: where are you from? Why it matters: you are buying our products, how my nationality is related to the product? It is annoying :( I feel you =ahassan11

Hi andreag, congrats and wish you best, I wish you to enjoy each moment of your pregnancy. I just want to thank you for your post and your comments on doctors attitude towards patients. I'm facing problems with getting pregnant (I have a 3yo DD and we've been trying TTC for the last 8 months) and I was recommended Dr Reema from Abbara clinic), got the same feeling as you has about Dr Fakih ("sales lady"). Dubai doctors are very spoiled and extremely commercialized putting profits before patients health. One of my tubes is blocked and I was immediately offered IVF (i was told the cost is AED 30K to 40K including meds). I guess I'll plan a visit to Dr Sant. Hi all. I have used this forum to search for information and feedback about doctors over the last year, and thought it is time i return the favour. I have been pregnant 5 times in the past year, and lost 4 of them. Now i am pregnant again and i have gone far enough to see a heartbeat for the first time, and i have no doubt that is all down to seeing Dr Rosalie Sant at Primavera. I can not commend her enough. Before seeing her, i saw Dr Oksus and Dr Jozsa at Health Bay, and Dr Fakih at Fakih IVF clinic. Dr Oksus - very nice, and if i had a normal pregnancy i would have been very happy to stay with her. After my second miscarriage she said straight out that she is not a fertility expert, but she was sure it was just bad luck, which is why i wanted to see someone else. Dr Jozsa - i saw Dr Jozsa aft my 3rd loss. He was recommended to me by 2 friends, one with a normal pregnancy and one who had experienced problems, so i had high hopes. I could not have been more disappointed. He was just not intested and told me he had a patient who had experienced 9 losses before conceiving. I am not sure if that was supposed to be reassuring or if he was telling me not to waste his time. His advice was for me too try again and keep the tissue from the next miscarriage so that i could bring it in for testing. His bedside manner left something to be desired, to say the least. Dr Fakih - time to see a fertility expert. Sadly, Dr Fakih is a one trick pony. He wants to do IVF and not investigate miscarriages. After a 5 minute consultation he concluded that we needed 2 blood tests which would need to be sent off to Chicago. In total, the tests would cost AED13,900. We decided to get a second opinion before spending the money, which was a good thing as the tests he commended would not have picked up my blood clotting issue, which apparently is much more common that the issues he wanted to test for. I know Fakihs success rates are very high, but i would not recommend him to anyone for his manners and lack of medical rigour. He felt more like a car salesman than a doctor. For anybody who is suffering from recurent miscarriages, there are any number of often painful and frustrating tests to go through, and then you hope they will throw up something wrong so you can go about treating it. It is hard enough without you needing to fight for your doctor to bother taking an interest. Dr Sant has been a god send, very thorough, detailed, explains every step of the way in a way that people like me, with no medical knowledge, can understand. Sorry for the very long post, i hope it helps anybody else going through similar experiences.

Hi Gorobattie, I've just had a similar awful experience with my maid. However my maid runaway at 6am last Friday while I was asleep with my DH and DD. I didn't bother her full ay as it was her day off. Most of her personal things were left behind. Thanks God, I kept her passport in my bedroom's safe. I went to Dubai police where I was told that if nothing was stolen the case needs to be addressed to Immigration. At the immigration we wanted to announce her missing first because were were not sure if she did run away as she seemed ok with her situation. At the immigration I was told that they can register the maid as absconded and they actually assured me 99% that she did run away. For a week I was calling and texting her relatives and friends and none of them call me back checking on her (i got the numbers from her previous employer whose friend hired her other friends). It seems they know she is ok otherwise why no following up with me. I'm not sure if I want to hire another maid and leave my child with unstable people. They will never be satisfied with their situation or at least most of them. Hello everybody, my house help did run away last night, after a big fight, that she attacked me, wanted to hit me, DH luckily was their and stopped he from attacking me... She kept repeating she wants to hit me, while DH sent her to her room - it's a separate room out of the villa - and she packed her bag but didn't take it with her.... her passport, labour card and all important documents are missing - sure it's with her - and she did left without telling anybody. Last night I did ask a friend to come over to watch my children, while I went with DH to Police to report her, police said it's not their authority, and we must go to Immigration to report her, and now we are waiting for our accommodation office to change the locks for our home, so she won't have access to our home - hint she left her packed suitcase - before we go to immigration to report her.... My question is: what is my legal rights here? what I can do so it won't back fire on me, as it look like that someone is motivating her to do this, she wanted me to hit her, she even got stuff from my DS1's desk and braked it in attempt to make me hit her!!! me and DH last night were afraid and wanted to cool things down as we do not know what had happen, tried to knock on her room door just to discover she was already left, tried to call her phone, she cancelled on our phone calls, after 3 attempts, she switched off her phone. I can't believe I am in this situation and wants to know, what will happen after we report her? suppose she is caught, do I have to fork out her money to cancel her visa? what are my legal bonds to her? what if she haven't been caught, what else I can do? Thanks for your help, and please no judging posts, as right now I did not sleep since last night. edited by Gorobattie on 17/11/2012

Have ready prints out of first aid. I also don't allow to take my DD while we ate at work. I installed cameras in each room. So I can see and hear what's happening at home while we r at work. So I'm in complete control. The nanny doesn't mind me having cameras around :)

Hello Ladies, has anyone dealt with the National Life and general insurance? We are getting group insurance for our company and I'm considering general network plan with maternity coverage (few hospitals are there such as Welcare, Canadian Specialist and Emirates Hospital). Appreciate any reviews on it. Any good gynecologist from the mentioned 3 hospitals? Does anyone know if Hysterosalpingogram (HSG- X-Ray to check the uterus and fallopian tubes) would be covered as part of maternity plan? I couldn't find any notes on the procedure in the policy exclusions Thank you in advance

It's not easy to install an IP camera (especially if it costs that cheap). My DH is very hands-on when it comes to electronics and computes but to have these cameras running so you can access them remotely he chose to hire a professional installer - it's just so complicated to set-up the account which allows you to see the cameras from outside of the house and configure the router which has to be connected to the cameras :. I can recommend only Maxcom who installed my cameras. Someone has already asked me about them in the forum recently. The web-site is www.maxcom.ae [url=www.maxcom.ae'>link[/url'>. Good luck!

I don't think that toddlers lie but they definitely exaggerate things or word things differently. I asked my DD if the nanny pushed her. she said yes. and then I asked her to show and she did. I assume my nanny can be forceful sometimes. They go for a play with our neighbours kids in the afternoon - this is the time when she is out of my watch. So I had a chat with the nanny and I asked her to be gentle with my DD. It's not like my DD doesn't like the nanny - she likes her a lot. My DD is a very happy child and she is ok to stay with the nanny at home. I'm happy that now I know that my nanny can be forceful and I have to keep an eye on her.

Do you mind if I ask where you got the cameras from? We'd love to set this up, but we are both totally hopeless on computers. PS... I hope it is a miscommunication with your LO, either way, it's good that they told you. I got mine from Maxcom. They install UK products with 2 years warranty. if you have problems with connections after the installation they provide good support. You can find them on www.maxcom.ae or [url=www.maxcom.ae'>link[/url'> edited by amy2010 on 28/05/2012

I forgot to mention that I have security cameras around the house and they are on all the time (including audio) on my PC at work. My husband does the same. And I always see what happens at home excluding bathrooms. I've never seen my nanny doing anything wrong such as shouting or God forbid beating, loosing temper. She is always patient and calm. Anyway I'm gonna follow advise of dufftown [/b'> I really hope it's nothing serious. Will let you know Ladies

I had my security cameras installed by Maxcom. It's called Supernannycam made in the UK and I got 2 years warranty on it (they work on iPhone and laptop). You can get their contact numbers from [url=www.maxcom.ae'>link[/url'>. I heard about groupon deals with cheap cameras. Personally I wouldn't buy such delicate products thru the deals web-site - you'd need warranty and technical assistance to install them. I'm not sure you can have all that when you buy a cheap product (actually I don't believe in all those "discounts" in general - why would you sell a quality product for that cheap! It's just a cheap product :) When I had Maxcom installing the cameras it took them 2-3 hours to just set them up. I had problems with my wi-fi so they fixed it because the security cameras are wireless and the wireless signal must be strong. And also I get technical support from them ( when we switched from Etisalat to Du, the cameras connection was lost so Maxcom sent a technician to set the cameras up again). The Only Free Cheese is in the Mousetrap :)

Finally I've found out why my DD was blinking! I just read somewhere that toddlers repeat after people around them. So at the dinner time I noticed that the nanny was blinking while I was talking to her. I'm happy with our nanny and she is good at her work. She explained that she had some problems with her husband and she couldn't talk to her son for a week so she got stressed because of this( I allow her to use laptop and Skype every day to stay in touch with her family) . She didn't notice she was blinking a lot and even our neighbour's nanny mentioned it to her. So mystery solved. My nanny is trying to control her habit and my DD finally doesn't blink a lot. I guess it will take sometime to get rid of the bad habit. The main idea - we need to advise our nannies to be careful with the words they use and habits around the kids they look after.

Are there any moisturising eye drops for kids? My DH is not complaining, there is no redness, she is not touching her eyes. I personally think it's because of AC. But I'll try to take her to a doctor (recommended one). So far what I witnessed with hospital and clinics in Dubai that they are very commercial here. Doctors are very generous for offering test and antibiotics :(

Just called up our paediatrician. he says if there is no redness and complaint then no need to worry. And he advised to try eye drops [b'>Gentamicin[/b'> for 3 days. any comments? I personally wouldn't give eye drops to my child without a consultation first. Thank you Ladies! this is our 3rd paediatrician:( Extremely hard to find a good doctor in Dubai. I just googled the drops name and it's antibiotic when I expected it to be moisturising drops. Any recommendations for a good paediatrician in Bur Dubai?

when you choose a corporate bank account there are so many things to consider./ We had our 1st account opened in NBD - without any notice they transferred us to a different type of account when we were charged monthly fees and etc. when we closed it after a few months we started receiving statements with charges. It took me another 2 months to prove that we have closed the account but the employee didn't do his duty. such a waste of time! At the moment we are with RAK, no min balance, free online banking. free cheque books, low WPS rates but as usually a lot of spam :) with offers of other services. other minus - waiting period to get statement when you need them urgently (2-3 days)

Why don't you (if you haven't already) check www.cic.gc.ca, which will probably have a guide on how to apply. As for the agency, we are currently with Can-Quest Consulting (although we've just got bad news from them that our application will be cancelled as per new ruling from Canadian gov., but it's different story altogether) and they were ok in follow ups and updates. www.can-quest.com A friend of mine got a letter from High comission after 2 years of waiting that they are not eligible although the agency gave them stamped assessment test and other documents saying they were eligible to apply for immigration.

Mrs_Bing -- it can be so tough to find the right helper but I would think that ExpatWoman can help with recommendations on experienced maids who may need jobs... we found ours by placing a Gulf News ad and doing lots of interviews in person (plus getting recommendations) and as I also work, she has been a godsend. Our first one was not ideal but this lady has been with us for almost a decade -- the right helper for your family could be just around the corner! Ad in the local newspaper or Dubizzle! We found our any same way. I had around 30 calls and I met only 4 of them and we found our nanny! Happy!

I actually find this sad. Moms putting their finances before their children. I mean this in the kindest way possible. I'm a mother and a full-time teacher in high school. Imagine what would happen if all the teachers who have children thought that way. It isn't just about the money either. We are all different people. Some of us are happy and fulfilled to stay at home and look after children, but some of us choose to work for whatever reason. There is nothing sad about it. We may not all agree on what is right or wrong but the most important thing is that our children are happy. There are plenty of mums who don't work and let the live-in maid look after the children. I see an army of maids taking children out in the late afternoon for a walk - where are the mothers? So true! It makes me sad everytime when I see maids with children in play centres on the weekends! I'm a working mom and I can't wait for the week end to take my child for play, spend with her whole day. I have only 1 child and sometimes it gets difficult to balance between work and home. But common weekend must be spent with kids! edited by amy2010 on 07/04/2012

It seems all the men are the same when it comes to birthday gifts. While I was engaged to my DH it was much easier to get a gift because we had separate budgets, separate accounts and etc. Now my Dh is paying for all my expenses.. he gets my credit card bills. I can't have any surprise any more. If the gift is too expensive he is the one who pays then It doesn't make sense. So I just ruined his 35th birthday by getting him a set of face care products (it used to be an expensive watch or wallet, a pen in our single times). He tried to pretend he liked it :) but it was so sad to see how i was describing him great features of facewash, scrub and etc. LOL Ladies, I don't' want to experience it again next year! I guess we just need to come up with some surprises like madolecow 's Gocart . Looking forward to great ideas!

I stayed at K+K Hotel Maria Theresia for a couple of days when I visited Austria a few years back. Really good rate for the size of the room and I think their breakfast were pretty good as well. Easy access to public transportation but I walked to most places. http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g190454-d231985-Reviews-K_K_Hotel_Maria_Theresia-Vienna.html Have not been to Budapest though. But DH stayed at the same hotel in Prague and had good experience as well. Looking good. Now I just need to find time to sit my DH down and go thru all the short-listed hotels. we have a bit hectic itinerary and only five days - this is the maximum my parents -in-law agreed to babysit our DD :) and anyway I can't stay away from her more then that Thanks and waiting for more suggestions

It's too attractive to be true :) My husband tried a few cheap cameras from dragon mart and it's just a waste!!!! You buy each for 200 Dhs or something and then it just doesn't work or you need to hire someone to install it (again extra pay). I have taken a super nanny cam system from A Dubai based company Maxcom. Excellent cameras! you can find them on www.maxcom.ae

We just bought 3 from dragonmart, the problem is that you can only really use 1 otherwise the signals interfere with each other, you can watch from your mobile or just record for the day but you'll need to buy a DVR in order to record. The camera is pretty small, we've hidden it in an air freshener! Cost 140 dhs for each camera, I think DVR's are about 500 but we already had one so not certain. HTH :) I',m going to try and take the other two back but not holding my breath so might have 2 up for grabs if you want 1? hidden cameras are banned in the UAE. You can get fine. There was an article in the Gulf NEWs about it. And I strongly believe it's not right to use spy materials even if you don't trust your maid. let her go or install proper cameras covering all the rooms.

call the municipality - sharing is illegal. If I do that it needs following up and I just don't have time for it. I and my husband both work. We like our apartment if not only sharing in the building. Apparently half of the building is shared. min 3 flats on out floor are shared. I just think the municipality won't fight. The buildings belong to locals and I just think they will ignore any of those complaints. The last I heard about sharing that it's not legal in the villas. I guess I'll keep searching a better place to rent.

Hello, we are a young Syrian family with 1 y.o. girl. I appreciate if anyone can share their experience about living in any community near bur Dubai area (similar to UpTown Mirdiff). My husband's work is in Bur Dubai so we'd like to keep our home not very far from it. at the moment we are living in Bur Dubai and paying for our 2 bedroom apartment 80,000. During this year many tenants moved to other places and the real estate just letting the flats to SHARING. I can't use the swimming pool or gym because of sanitary concerns. Any advise would be appreciated.

Eli1979, I called Maxcom over for a quote, but was not entirely happy with the service. What he mentioned to be a 2-3 hrs overall fitting and installation, he turned up and took 3 hours just to download the software, but even then after being in the home for what seemed like ages ( at the worst part of the day- tea time/homework time), and said that there were problems with my router. He said that I needed to get a new router as mine was too old....(installed 1 and a half years ago), however, he did have one in his car that he could sell me for 500dhs. (Figure plucked out the air). After me telling him that he would not get another penny out of me...he made a few calls to his manager, who then said he could sell it to me for 300dhs...I said NO. Then after a deliberate pause, (so transparent), he said that he has another customer old model in the car that I could have for 200dhs. This gets better! I said NO. Then he realised that I was not going to be a mug and buy it off him, and for the sake of losing the 7000dhs sale he was risking, he went out to his car...and came back...''good news...you can have this one for free!!!!'' he said. Well well that was a surprise, so we have gone from 500dhs for a new router, to 300, to 200 (for a new one) to FREE!!! Anyway after changing the old router, he then proceeded to take 3 hours doing stuff on the computer, and still the camera's were in their boxes, and he hadn't even downloaded the software! Did I really need the new router? Me thinks NOT! Just an extra sale for him. You would think that it was a simple tasks for a computer technician and he kept on phoning someone and talking for ages in Arabic whilst he was on his laptop. He hadn't even attempted to show me what he was doing or what the issues were. Just to make you aware, if you ladies have the same experience, as I am sure they all know how important it is to those who want them and that (especially I am not savvy about computers and stuff), he thought he may try it with me. I still want the Nanycam installed but need to know if there is some other company that can do this. Anyone? He is still calling me to see when he can come over to fix them....er NO! A sale lost indeed!! edited by dipika on 08/02/2011 OMG i have just seen this! I cannot believe you had such a bad experience! It's like you are talking about a totally different company. Our installation (4 cameras) took less than 40 minutes and they are perfect! I love them and could not do without them now as I travel for work and I even use it to see my baby when I am away, etc. He did tell us before we bought the cameras that we might have to change the router as Belkin does not have certain functions that might be required but at the end it was not necessary. I don't know what happened , maybe they sent you a new guy? what was the name of the technician? Dipika, I have dealt with Maxcom and I can’t complain at all. I can describe my experience with them in a few words as I think it’s the best deal in Emirates at the moment. Believe me I searched for professional nanny cam installers since I heard I was pregnant ( and my baby girl is 13 month now) because we were planning to hire help after I delivered and we don’t regret it at all. I called so many companies and everyone wanted to sell but no one wanted to install the cameras, the cameras were very cheap in appearance but more expensive than those nice square nanny cams that Maxcom offer. So going back to my experience J around 6 months ago I called Maxcom and had a smooth chat with one of their sales. I remember he asked few questions about the router – they needed to decide if it allowed remote monitoring. So they figured out that my router had all specifications required for the cameras (it's Linksys). Whole installation took only 1.5 hours. I’m extremely happy with the cameras (and we had them installed around 6 months), very clear picture and sound. My husband is especially happy. He travels a lot so he can see our DD when he’s away. Both of us have I-phones plus a mac, A PC and ipad so I just click on camera logo and voila I’m watching cameras. Dipika, you should still try to contact Maxcom again. they didn't seem like the type of company who would make you use their router if yours weren't working, especially that good routers sell for over 600 in carrefour, plus I think he had the router just in case; and perhaps he was a bit inexperienced. Let me know if you want to be refereed to the engineer that I dealt with, all the best, Amy.
