Gorobattie, if you aren't comfortable complaining why don't you post the address of these people here I'm sure someone else will do it they are clearly a disgrace and need to be spoken to.

Hi JPS, I added you to the group just now, if you want to drop me an email I am as Amilia says a Doula here so may be able to offer some advice on the OB/birth side as well as Fairty godmother support. [email protected]. Dubai Lady Taxis carry car seats, I will see if they need to be prebooked and if so I'm sure we can arrange that for you to be collected at the airport. I look forward to hearing from you. edited by AndreaA on 09/07/2012

To the OP there are lots of great doulas here and I am sure you will have a wonderful birth despite the negativity that some people feel towards doulas if you believe it is a good addition to your birth then that is all that matters.

I also heard the same story regarding the doula.. I was a little disappointed when i 1st heard this news as i will be delivering at city hospital and hoped to have a doula as its my 1st pregnancy and there is a chance DH will be away. However after thinking about it for a few weeks i am happy with the decision made by city hospital as i have gone through the careful process of selecting my ob/gyn for a reason and you should have built up a good relationship with that Dr before delivery. They do not need a untrained medical professional getting in the way at such a vital time. As with any 'story' if you weren't there it is hard to know exactly what happened. As a doula here myself I have been working close with City Hospital to try to overcome this issue but it will take time. However I would just like to say that a Doula's role is to work with not against your chosen medical professional and although we aren't medically trained lots of us are trained as Doula's and can provide certificates, references etc.. The role of a Doula is to offer emotional support and assistance and absolutely no medical advice or intervention. There are lots of great midwives and Dr's here to work really well with us and enjoy having us at births. To have or not to have a Doula is a personal decision, if you are considering appointing a Doula interview a couple and see what you think. There is no comittment and no financial obligation in having a coffee and a chat.

AD from my experience as a doula here I have never seen an Epidural last more than 2-3 hours, it does depend on the hospital/Dr of course. If you are so scared that you feel it is going to potantially effect your next birth there are people here you can talk to about it if it would help.

Chocs01 thank you for the info I was in with them only ysterday talk so maybe I will give them a call about respite. Ladies I have someone coming to see her tonight and i'm really nervous, how do I know if this person is a good human being vs someone looking for a dog for fighting/training. I had another one of those heated discussions with DH today as he claims we should only consider westerners but I can't believe that is the case surely? Any info/tips/advice would be greatly appreciated I want her to go to a good home I really do.

AR, Is this your first baby? How long as your OB agreed to let you go over your due date? I wouldn't worry too much if they aren't pushing for induction. As Spamm says babies come once they're ready not when we are :-)

Spamm you are absolutely right I am a peer counsellor and would obviously refer to a specialist if I were unable to help.. Thanks for clarifying that for those who didn't know the difference. I am a cartified peer counsellor and Doula and would be happy to show certifcates to anyone wishing to see them. Andrea do hou have a current and valid licence from the DOH to practice legally in the UAE like all healthcare professionals ? edited by Caramelle on 29/04/2012 As the role of a Doula isn't medical we do not full under the banner of 'healthcare professional' and that is what is causing confusion with the local authorities. I offer support to mums as a Doula which is very much a labour of love as is being a peer counselling and as I do not undertake anything medical in any way with no exception. I am there for emotional and practical support and information only just like your mum would be. I tell all of my clients that my role isn't medical and that I am there to work with their chosen healthcare provider. If you would like to discuss this in more detail you are welcome to contact me directly at [email protected] edited by AndreaA on 29/04/2012 edited by AndreaA on 29/04/2012

There's also a FB group called U.A.E pet lovers - put her details up there as well. Done that also and I will work at getting some posters out tomorrow, I didn't know the vets had books as they had never mentioned it. I will work on those tomorrow also. Thanks

Andy (AndreaA) was my doula when I gave birth last October....there would be a testimonial from me on her website if I wasn't so lazy! She was an amazing doula and helped me to have the natural birth experience I so desperately wanted. Her prenatal sessions were fantastic so we didn't need to do the v expensive ante natal classes and she helps afterwards visiting when baby is new and she is also a lactation consultant. My husband also thought she was incredible during the birth and she helped him to support me in the right way so that he felt a full part of the process...I think not having family around and the very medicalised birthing process in Dubai, having a doula is essential if you want to enjoy your birth and be in control as much as you can. She helped us also by advising us to move me into different birthing positions and well... she was incredible. A lot of my friends used her also as a LC and some wished they'd had her as a doula!! She is a breatfeeding councellor, not a lactation consultant. A LC must be a healthcare professional and the training require much more experience, hours of study, it is a very rigourous process Always check which training your doula has taken A lot of people call themselves lactation consultant without training. Debs thank you for such a lovely recommendation. x Andrea edited by AndreaA on 28/04/2012

Try contacting Emma at SCAD, she has lots of contacts and also runs a shelter. The only reason you got the reply you did from me, is that emotional blackmail and ultimatums when it comes to animals is not a nice thing to do! There are literally hundreds of dogs looking for homes all in exactly the same situation. Have you tried giving your children anti-allergy meds? Yes I have given her meds but I am not a believer in doping up children so rehoming is the best option in my opinion. I'm sorry people feel I was resorting to blackmail but I can assure you I am under a lot of pressure from DH to rehome or remove and I don't want to have the dog put down hense my being desperate.

Andrea, people have already suggested putting the info on Animal Action, also other FB pages. All we request is some photos and info that we can share with others as many of us here are prolific posters and members of these sites, but without the info there's not much we can do. Any kennel telling you to put the puppy down is not worth talking to IMHO. There are plenty of people out there willing to offer a foster home, but as I keep saying 'need the info'. edited by Chocs01 on 27/04/2012 As soon as I saw Pingu's post I put the info and a picture up on the Animal Action FB page so feel free to have a look. As for the kennels suggestiong having her put down it was two of the most mentioned kennels on here would you believe! They can't take her and have had little in the way of information on how best to rehouse. I am sincerely trying but I am also a bother of 2 small children, I work part time and run a volunteer group so my spare time to stick up posters etc is very limited. I do appreciate any genuine help but I don't appreciate unreasonable judgement from people who don't know me. edited by AndreaA on 27/04/2012

Ok, stop looking for a permanent home at this point and just try and find a foster home. Screaming that you're going to put the dog down is not going to gain you much sympathy, rather people wondering why you got a dog in the first place. I haven't seen this pup advertised anywhere so far, you've put up no photos, nor links to where she has been advertised, so in my eyes you're not trying very hard. You have no idea what I have tried so you are in no position to judge! I am asking if someone can help thats all! In addition to that how was I to know my daughter would have an allergy before we got her?! As for putting her down that is what the kennels keep suggesting as they are 'full'! edited by AndreaA on 26/04/2012

Thanks thats a great idea. She is house trained, very lively and loves to play. My children at 3 and 5 and she is good with them although does jump up at times. She has had all of her jabs etc and is in good health (she loves to eat). Overall she is a good dog but would benefit from someone with energy to play. I will post pictures later.

Hi Eva, I'm a Doula here in Dubai, there are a few of us but I am unaware of any called Isabella, although I appreciate I don't know everyone here in Dubai I just want to give you a quick heads up that there are some people here calling themselves Doulas who are working without any formal training or certification. Good luck with your search

Hi Assisi To be honest I have only been able to get close to them as i've always had the children with me (the're 2 & 4 so not really gentle!) I do have experience of taking in a 6 month old stray and she couldn't be lovelier and is very good with the children and very happy to be outside also. I will go out later when I have 5 minutes and see how close I can get without the kids. Andy

I'm afraid I haven't had enough time to read the entire thread so someone ma have already raised this but The Fairy godmothers club have now stopped using Mini Monsters due to safety concerns. For example there is one one exit to the soft play area now as they closed one if there is a fire and your child is inside you will find it very difficult to get him/her out safely! Just something else to consider
