Dr Delphine and Dr Carol Smylie are wonderful if she wants a female doctor. If she doesn't mind Dr Fischer is also great. They are all well educated on the various option, I would say Carol is the most likely to suggest supplements and talking as a first resort. We have a website and my contact details are there if you or she need to talk. x

Hi Dinky, I am the founder of Out of the Blues. Sadly Zoloft isn't the only antidepressant that has been repeatedly out of stock and like you I have ladies in very difficult situations trying desperately to manage. It's great news it should be back in a few days I was also told the end of this week early next week so lets hope it's true this time! Take care of yourself Andy

Just to let you ladies know Out of the Blues are having a coffee Thursday morning 9am-12 If you want details please email us as I think they would delete them if I posted them here. [email protected]. If you don't drive we have ladies coming from most areas I'm sure we could arrange to have you collected. It is a very informal gathering where we just sit and talk about how we feel, elements of our lives we are finding hard, we laugh, sometimes someone cries, we eat cake, drink tea and simply understand how we all feel very much the same. Sometimes it's just nice to talk to someone who gets it. x

Sadly a lot of the children here are rather unpleasant, we have expat brats and as you say the locals children are also brought up differently to ours with different expectations and ideas of manners in a lot of cases. I have also had very bad experiences with your "Fix it" company, they are in my experience useless! I'm sorry you are having such a tough time having only been here 6 weeks, Dubai has it's upsets and down, maintenance is usually a challenge for us all, please try not to let it get you down too much. Hugs x

Dear Bongo, You are absolutely right postnatal depression is a chemical imbalance and is most commonly treated with medication and talking whether to a counsellor, psychiatrist or a support group. Please do consider joining the group yourself, it sounds like you had a tough time the first time but there are people here who understand and are willing to offer peer support and a listening ear. AndreaA Hi Farsi Sorry to hear about your friend. I had my daughter two years ago in Rome and ended up having horrendous PND with very little support medical or otherwise there. No details required but I had very dark thoughts about what I wanted to do to her and myself. After 6 months of trying alternative therapies I had good old Prozac and spoke to all my friends about what I was going through. Please please ask your friend to get in touch with me if she wants an understanding ear, it is a lonely dark place to be with a baby. The only way through sadly I think is medication and talking, either to a support group or friends, It's a small step by step process and took me 3-4 months after starting medication to feel relatively 'sane' again. I am expecting twins in September and likely to get it again but will be straight onto medication, it's the only way. My email for your friend if she wants to get in touch is alithepal@hotmaildotcom.

Oh SL that's dreadful :-( There is a safety shop in Time Square that sells a contraption that deals with these cords somehow and removes the risk of this problem. I find it so scary how many dreadful accidental deaths in children we hear about in the UAE I wonder if it is as bad globally? The little one who suffocated in the car recently, the baby battered to death by the maid for example :-( I think it is something that happens everywhere although somehow it's especially shocking for those from the colder countries to hear about little children suffocatinging in hot cars because it's not really a problem we're used to. But with the window blind cords, this has been an ongoing issue for years and years.I remember when my DD was tiny being absolutely paranoid about it.We had special cords on her blackout blinds that had an easy break catch on them. My ex colleague in the UK lost her niece :-( she got tangled up in the cord). Her Mum was deaf and had literally walked into the kitchen when it happened. The parents never got over it

Hello, my daughter has come down with a nasty virus and we are out of calpol and she won't take anything else. We tried them all even by using the calpol syringe but nothing, she spits it all out. Does anyone have any I could buy or has anyone found a pharmacy where we could still buy it? Thanks a lot in advance. I'm sorry to say they no longer sell Calpol in the UAE, do you still need some? I have a few sachets and i'm heading home on the 9th so could spare them if needed. I hope shes a little better

I'm assuming i'm too late for this? :-( Hi there Are you still looking for a maid? I have an amazing nanny/maid available to start 1 July 2013. She is in her late forties, has 13 years experience in child minding and has a certification in Emergency Pediatric Response and First aid for babies and Children (we sent her on the course). She is an excellent cleaner and is also great with dog-sitting (I have 3 big dogs). She is a live-in but we have given her all her furniture so she has furniture to bring with. She is from the Phllipines and has been in the UAE for a long time. She works unsupervised and I have never had any problems with her. She has a lot of pride in her work and she understands and speaks English fluently. As we are very fond of her, I ofcouse want to make sure that she goes to a loving family that will look after her and treat her with dignity and respect. I would also like to meet the family as well. If you are interested, let me know and I can arrange for you to meet her.

They may be sugar ants (I hope for your sake they aren't) these are incredibly resilient and once you have them are very hard to shift. You will need to put all open food into Tupperware, seal up any holes in the grout etc where they may be coming in a bleach your kitchen surfaces, inside cupboards etc regularly. I have tried all sorts of solutions and this seems to be the only one that manages to keep them to a minimum I haven't managed to get rid of them entirely as apparently once you have them in the brick work they will always find places to come in.

My two children boy 6 and girl 4 have asked to go to a summer camp for a bit, i'm happy for them to do this but i'm unsure which camp will cater to their very different interests the best. My DD is really into arts & crafts, cooking, sports and DS is more into sports, games, cooking, lego stuff like that but arts and crafts don't interest him at all. Anyone used a good camp here that covers a broad spectrum and offers them a choice of activities instead of just timetabling stuff for them to do. Thanks, Andy

To be honest I don't want every unemployed maid applying I was after families who are leaving and wanted to relocate their maids instead of just anyone looking for a job as I said we've had many bad experiences and posting within classifieds will just mean I have to filter 100s of calls from people looking for work most of whom don't fulfil our needs. :-(

We are looking for a good reliable, honest and trustworthy maid with the ability to use her own initiative but someone who is not a total walk over and can stand her ground with my children if she needs to. Her role will be mostly to take care of the house but the odd bit of baby sitting would be good. If you have a good maid and you are relocating please do let me know. We will require honest references and want to do a trial period. We've had lots of problems in the past with maids steeling, leaving doors and windows unlocked etc. If you aren't happy with your maid please don't pass her onto to us we are a good honest family and will treat her well we just need a good honest maid. Thanks, Andrea

I haven't decided yet if we'll use a doula for #2 (coming in Nov), but only because I don't feel the same need for information. I'm hoping that my DH will be more of a comfort to me this time around as well - sorry to say that while I was having contractions he was driving me a little crazy in the labor ward with his suggestions that I didn't find very soothing or helpful. He is so lovely and just wanted to help, but I couldn't stand to hear anything he said..my response was so unexpected and I still apologize to him to this day! My doula on the other hand was calm and nurturing and just exactly what I needed. Don#t worry all mum do this its perfectly normal, they got you into this situation they should get a little flack for it ;-)

Dear Mahawish, Having an Epidural statistically increases the risks of a c-section and other forms of intervention such as forceps and ventouse. However, in saying that there is a big difference between pain and suffering and no woman should suffer during child birth is should be a wonderful memorable experience. I have attended many wonderful natural births here where women have used alternatively mentions of pain relief such as a TENS machine, water, Gas & Air, visualisation and hypnobirthing. From my experience I would say having a natural birth without pain relief really depends on how much you believe in yourself and your own ability to birth your baby the way you want to. I do agree that you should have birth preferences not a birth plan as plans can sometimes go wrong. Reading all the pros and cons, I'm just paranoid....and was wondering if people have acually opted for not taking epidural at all for a natural birth....and how have they fared. ...or is it wise to go for the epidural. Would taking an epidural increase the probability of a natural birth because it helps with the pain ? Any personal experiences/reassurances/advice would be welcome. Thanks First time mom-to-be in final trimester :)

As you are pregnant you are not expected to fast even if you are Muslim you can make the days up another time when you are feeling healthy enough. I went out yesterday and was insanely thirsty. I just opened up a water bottle and drank it nobody said anything. I also tried a pakora in the food section in lulu before buying it and nobody cared although I must admit at that point it had totally slipped my mind I shouldnt be eating in public. Maybe because I'm heavily pregnant?

I couldn't agree more, I worry about those who work outside, there are so many people here working in this heat I really don't know how it can be healthy for them to not have a little water it's very concerning. I know that I can only be out in public for a limited amount of time as I start to get headaches if I do not get enough water. {quote=KB100'>I'm not bothered about being unable to eat out but I do think not being able to get a drink of water in this heat is too much. If I go out during Ramadan I make sure I've eaten before I go and that I'm not out for very long. Have to say I do get very thirsty especially when the car is so hot, I can't begin to imagine how Muslims cope especially with it falling in the hottest part of the year. edited by AndreaA on 22/07/2012

I see your point, I had wanted my children to experience Ramadan and Iftar with others as we are non-muslims I thought maybe a tent would be a good idea but I would also be upset with the amount of waste so maybe we will think of something else. My children are still relatively young and I don't like to keep them up too late, I know last year the fast wa ended around 6.30ish which would be ok for them I am hoping it will be similar this year and we can try to go along to a tent somewhere to share the experience with people. Any good recommendations welcome (especially as DS is rather fussy). In the beginning of Ramadan Iftar will be around 7.14, and by the end 6.53. Iftar last years was around 6.30 maybe Last year at the end of Ramadan, Iftar was at around 6.40.. So this year it will be later. I have to say, I don't like Iftars in restaurants. We were invited to different hotels 2 years ago and I didn't enjoy my food, and I certainly did not enjoy seeing people loading their plates only to have it thrown away. Even in 5 start hotels I thought the food was mediocre, plus you have to go and look for a place to pray. I go for home cooked food, with my friends:)
