You don't need to own a house to make it home-as the others have said it is the memories you make there and the touches you add to create a home -I feel equally at home in my own country and Dubai and refer to both as home now very well said wuffles...a house is a place made of bricks and concrete.its you who make it a home by creating loving memories. and yes we are in the same area but now looking at options to change from here due to rent problem. from your post i'll definitely be looking in your area or in mirdiff. :)

I live besides Dhow palace hotel in Bur dubai and just love this place. Just across the road are the villas so there is quite alot of greenery whenever you feel like walking. As i don't have car or drive, all the major supermarkets are within walking distance along with pharmacy, repairs shops, etc. just 10 minutes walk to bur juman or the metro station, surrounded by karama, bur juman and meena bazar metro station(starting soon). bus stop just infront of the building.grocery store next door to building. apart from all of these spacious apartment and new building.and moreover its quite also. You have started a wonderful thread which helps to know about pros and cons of every place :)

well i also stand in same category but airport is a different place altogether. i would not run after anybody there though i might point it out to staff or the person concerned. once i was entering a restaurant and one small kid who can barely walk properly was going towards the road so i picked him up and asked at the gate whose child is this...after 5 min a woman came running from inside.when i gave her her child she glared at me as this was my fault! i also told her to mind her children rather then left them running on the road. then when security also said the same thing she just huffed and went away!

cupcakes and pastries of magnolia are best...their red velvet cupcake is to die for!! then in dubai mall i think its La gaustrette (sp)...delicious. coffee i like of barista only :) or coffee bean and tea leaf. I'm with you-those red velvet cupcakes can't be topped-just as well I don't live closer to Dubai Mall! whenever i am there i just avoid lower ground level...coz after reaching there i just can't stop with only 1 cupcake :)

Try squash - really good for your bum and thigs. Is that squash as in the vegetable, squash as in super duper hold it all in wonder pants or squash as in running around in a glass pen trying to hit a minute supersonic ball? :D the last one

you can check in classifieds section of gulf news paper, at the back. whenever there is a need we rent from national car. so far good in service. ps:please do not rent from any small company without checking all the things. once we rented from a place near creek, he delievered car at home but took refundable deposit of 2500 AED with reciept and all. but after returning car i had to call them daily to refund the money.finally when my husband threatened to go to police they refunded the amount, after 2 months!! so be careful in that.

well men do appreciate massages just don't want to accept it :) but that depends on person to person... you might check various websites they are offering so much of delas these days.. one is dubaideals.ae and other is markavip.com for gifts. you can also add a nice bottle of rum or wine? (if not a problem) or personal trainig sessions...well you have to work hard for knowing some *likes* for him i suppose. that way it would be easier for you to decide.

Maybe too late for this time, but next time, why not rent a place which is suitable for all of you, and tell all the family that that is where you'll be and they're welcome to visit you there! Or are the distances from everyone too far for that to work? that's a very good suggestion and i tried following it this time simpleasabc....tried booking a holiday for everybody at one place but no success :(

i feel for you meals...everytime we go back, which is once a year, for few days....instead of relaxing its always stressfull for us and still everybody complains that you havn't met us. for me there are 3 homes back and all at very long distance, where i have to juggle!! even when i went for 25 days last year it was less...so no matter what you can't make everybody happy...i always dread going back to home country rather then enjoying ( my mother in law makes plans ahead to go here and there and we can't refuse as we go once in a while :( it makes you really tired! ) and i always wonder why we are obligated to go and meet everybody there?? can't they come and meet us if not here then there only! but NO we have to go to everybody's place! sorry this hasn't helped you in any way...but think of your children first. they might become cranky shuffling here and there. and good luck for your trip :)

well sunglow you have pointed out the general problem here.even if you make effort and find someone maching your rapport they move back :( as has happened with few of our friends. I also have problems making friends due to my reserved nature.Either i have met people who are too outgoing or the one who liked to *itch. it seems everybody has same problem :)

The phrases I have been using a lot lately are: ghaas kkyoon jal rahi hai? poday kyoon marr rahay hain? paani ka bill ziyyada aa raha hai Water bill has gone up? tamatar may keeray aa gaye hain :) why the grass is burning? why plants are dying? water bill has increased(or gone up) there are insects in tomatoes. Translate the rest please:) Irooni as stovetop suggested it would be better to listen this. try translators on google or if you know anybody indian you can ask them too. there are many words people will spell differently and then prounounciation will be diff too. eg: plant is paudha not pauda :) hope this helps. edited by manubhadauria on 04/06/2011

There's a lady at city hospital in DHCC that is beyond fantastic but I've forgotten her name. I believe she's the only female gynaecologist there. I'm sure someone will remember and chip in. edited by ladygodiva on 31/05/2011 i think you are talking about Dr Elsa who is super busy for next 3 months! there are more lady gynaecs there. monb check out the pregnancy section you'll find lots of recommendations there. it depends on your preference too you wouldn't want to goto other end of the dubai for checkups :) i am with Dr Nirmala in DHCC at dr sulaiman's clinic. she is wonderful.

hey tweet i completely agree with jc10 here. i have been with her since last sep and after changing so many gynaec (even after medcare) i am happy with her so far. as all other said she do talk less but will listen to whatever you are saying and would clear all your doubts. i have pcos and so she was monitoring me very closely. i was pregnant this feb but miscarried at 7 weeks. both of us were in shock but she was so helpful and even allowed me to carryon till 9 week (although there was no growth). i went to 3-4 other docs and she didn't took offense in that. during d&c due to some unavoidable circumstances i couldn't get operated by her but still she kept in constant touch. i am going to start treatment again to concieve from tom from her only. so far i am comfortable with her and as the OP said she doesn't have a problem with husband by your side. even if i use to call her at midnight she would answer calmly. that's more then enough. but everybody has different opinions as my medcare exp was bad for general checkup. if you are comfortable go with her otherwise look for other. Dr Elsa is so busy that from last 3 mons they are rescheduling my appointment and now it is in aug! ps: and many congrts :)

rather bizarrely I watched the finale in a refugee centre in Kathmandu !! weird.... and surreal but awesome. I preferred it to the USA Ramsey version. Shall I spill the beans about who won?? :-) definitely....USA version was boring and so was Indian...i just loved this one. :) because of this serial i got the inspiration to finally start cooking non veg (although my skills are still limited to the easier ones) and my DH loves to identify the ingredients in any dish now :) edited by manubhadauria on 31/05/2011

yes they are Flame Tree, or the Poinciana tree. My Indian friend says when they bloom in India they are spectacular! yes they are truly spectacular and amazing sight to behold :) altough in India they are darker and more red. There is one colour festival in India called Holi, these flowers were used to make organic colours.
