I had sit n stroll car seat which is FAA approved and I used it many times on flights with my son since he was 18 months old till he was 3 years old. It was really worth it. We never had any problem in flights and he always slept comfortably in it. It was easy to carry as it was like stroller and when you want to convert it into carseat the wheels go inside. So on airport also it helped a lot as a stroller. I bought it from centrepoint in Abu dhabi 2.5 years back. Dont know if it is still available there. that's worth checking.thanks

join the coffee mornings with Expat..you might make some new friends or atleast get motivated to move out of the house.I am in the same situation as yours, only difference being i do not watch tv, have a toddler to keep me occupied but i am getting frustrated not been able to do anything for myself...my baby takes all my time and the weight pile up lately has started getting me. Dh even when he is at home ( he makes a point of arriving home before baby's bedtime) is on the phone all the time and we have to be quiet. i am thinking of putting him in nursery so that i can start swimming and driving classes. anyways over with me :) when i arrived here i used to take a bus almost daily and exlpore Dubai. That way i knew lots of things which even my husband didn't knew after living here for 2 years. Since weather became better i used to walk a lot and knows my area completely. May be you can do that once weather is bearable. most of us comes here all slim and toned and over the course of just 1-2 years that body is no where to be seen. Angel joy I have mentioned previously on another thread BUT if u ever want some you time I am always willing to babysit for a couple of hours to give you a break, I know I am not a qualified nanny BUT I am a Nanna, ha ha offer is there, .. I'm a little past my worrying about my body these days, learning to be happy in yourself and loving you for who you are is better than worrying about weight and body beautiful, once you love yourself from within you will stand taller. and smile and instantly you will look slimmer, brighter and happier!! thank you :) edited by angel joy on 14/09/2013

Gradually replace a feeding or two a week with a bottle or sippy cup of milk. If they are eating a wide variety of solids there is absolutely no need for follow on formulas. Full fat cows milk is more than sufficient. They need about 15oz of dairy or a dairy substitute each day. Congrats on making it to a year with twins! Oh, and there is absolutely no need to wait on that campaign. Put them to bed one night and enjoy a glass or 2 or 3. You've earned it! As long as you're not feeling drunk, you are safe to nurse. edited by Meagle on 08/09/2013 Meagle what about the night feeds? i am thinking of weaning my 17 month old. he only drinks at night and 1 feed in the day. he used to get up exactly 2 hrs after sleep, i have stopped giving him that (which was a battle for 4 days), he still wakes up but want to be held for 2-3 min. then he gets up at 2:30 and for another at 4:30 or 5. i tried giving him cow's milk for 2:30 feed but he got too angry and threw away the cup.i don't want to stop altogether before 2 yr but want him to drop the middle of the night feed. edited by angel joy on 08/09/2013

From what I gather, the new law stipulates that those who work in Abu-dhabhi have... to compulsorily live in AD, possibly that could be one reason for this sudden exodus from Dubai!!!!!! correct me if I am wrong.... its still under consideration.

you can get one custom made from Karama or satwa furniture shops. I don't have an idea of price though. There is one furniture store in ibnbattuta (i think silek) but they are little expensive. I have seen this type of bed in some furniture shop when we were searching for sofa...i don't remember exactly, might be united furniture.

dubizzle is becoming a pain these days. We got our toddler's bed from there few months back and from the person we bought, living in jumeirah, had twins so they had twin bed. I selected the one which had almost no scratches and completely clean. We paid them then and there and couldn't pick it up as already baby was there in the car so no space with the car seat.Husband said he would come later in the evening but went after 1 day. They had dismantled it for us,gave few cot sheets and bumpers, lamp shade (which wasn't even in the add ) and when he came home i asked him did he checked if it was the same one.he said the other one is already sold and picked on the same day we purchased. ok...when the bed was mantled it had lots of scratches and finger nails mark. Trusting dh didn't even checked. it was not the one i selected. guess husbands are like that. Trusting where they shouldn't be..

Magnolia...awesome red velvet cake.Don't try mister baker very dry cakes.Even Caesar's are good. 500 dhs is too much for the cake and for 4 poeple? i normally get a strawberry millefuille from Paul's or from magnolia (if there are more then 3 people). Also Bruntetti's in dubai mall have yummy cakes. last year on dh's birthday i got a red velvet cheesecake from magnolia (his fav). there were just 2 of us so i got 2 cheesecakes (one for me for next day as a reserve) and 6 of his friends came at 12 in the night to celebrate and all of us ate from 2 cheesecakes :D i would get a big cake this year. edited by angel joy on 02/09/2013

Hi ladies Has anyone bought a rear facing car seat here (group 1). My LO will be moving on from her group 0 Maxicosi soon and I've read some awful reviews about the Pearl / Tobi (slipping arms out). It looks like the rear facing seats are safest. Has anyone bought one here? Any suggestions on make or model? Tx you are right. i have a pearl and when my ds wants he slips out his arms from the seat belt despite being it so tight. i am also looking for the car seat :( i wanted to keep him in the rear facing but he outgrew it in the height and also wouldn't fit properly as he is a large baby. edited by angel joy on 02/09/2013

Thank you ladies. Very nice recommendations! I need to get out and see something new and I am happy that my friend who is visiting me agreed to join me. It is very spontaneous especially as I am traveling a week later to Germany and Spain and the cats need a sitter too. That's why I am on a budget. Angel joy do you mind to share the drivers details and how much he costs per day? i'll ask my husband for the details and would send you by evening. i looked for the lonely planet but he gave it to his golf trainer.

In Europe I like the Huggies but over here I find them quite stiff and papery (dont know if that is a word). Going to try the "organic" hubbies for new baby so will find out if they are better or not. made me giggle Kenza :D so far i have not faced such problems with pampers. Ds is allergic to huggies(always gets rashes as soon as huggies are put) so i am always worried for the diapers. During the day i use cloth diapers and at night pampers pull up pants. they are costly then the others so i am thinking of buying normal ones for the trips outside during the day...but putting them is a pain with a wriggly baby on changing table who is ready to jump!! i have heard C4's own brand is very good and reasonable. but i have not found small packets for trial and error first. has anyone used them? edited by angel joy on 31/08/2013

ppg13 their service is excellent. we placed an order but cancelled it as we got a 6 months used bugaboo here at a good price. but their service is very good as when i called to clear few things the guy i spoke to was very helpful and offered to send our stroller with his brother to Abu dhabi as he was travelling within few days.i remember Dubaicat was very happy with it. although the custom charges here very. i think it was on the form..one of them paid and one of them didn't had to pay any :) i ordered some accessories from them and the delivery was excellent. for the warranty that's the issue. but as long as something drastic doesn't happen( like my stroller once thrown from the airplane gate down for the cargo and the seat was broken which the airlines paid for) its a very good stroller. its 16 months of heavy use now and no problem so far.i think you can purchase international warranty...check it out i do not remember correctly.

we have been there thrice and every time we went we hired a car with the driver.(same every time) on all 3 trips we went with friends so the cost was divided between two hence not much. no tour guide but the lonely planet is very good. i have to search mine..you are welcome to have it if i can find it. In Kandy, there is Randholee resorts which were very good and right in the centre of the city although up the mountain. the infinity pool there overlooks mountain and it wasn't expensive. the market closes at 6 there so we used to rush for dinner :) Colombo is sufficient for one day. we stayed there one night only at the Taj samudra. It was good. One particular thrilling experience was at Kitulgala. We went for rafting there and stayed for one night at one of the resort ( i am not able to recall the name) and it was so beautiful that we stayed there for 2 nights. The drive to that resort was scary passing through the jungle. it was made on the huge natural rock and was surrounded by the waterfalls from all side amidst the lush green scenary . It was such a wonderful experience.its a private bunglow converted into resort and has 4-5 rooms only.

well TDB has given sound advice. Your DH has to decide what he wants to do.We can only share our experiences. For my dh its atleast 3-4 movies in a week (which irritates me as i cannot watch tv at al!! but it relaxes him) on weekend first thing in the morning he puts on a dvd and watch a movie! We have a huge collection of movies.Weekdays its not possible with the hectic schedule, he normally comes home at 7:30-8:30 but on weekends...golf,squash,movie,table tennis, splashing in the pool with our son is his normal routine. weekdays he says playing with our 16 month old de stresses him (they mostly play for 30 minutes before his bedtime :D ) from past 2 weeks he has started complaining that he misses gym and want to join again as fitness first offers a variety of classes. but i have to remind him every time that even with the membership he used to go only on the weekends!! right now dh is watching a movie and i am sitting here :) edited by angel joy on 28/08/2013

You have got wonderful advice from the ladies here. :) as you said your main diet is rice and curries, your baby might not be interested in curries. try giving him bland food. My 16 month old ds wanted rice for lunch and dinner and then suddenly he stopped eating rice at all and now wants only chapati for lunch and pureed food (lumpy) for dinner or sometimes he likes curd rice.since he is teething (late teething, only 4 so far) so i give him mostly mueslli with fruits or vegetables risotto for dinner, along with some fish. He doesnt eat chicken or potato in any form so i don't fuss much. He loves spices like cinnamon.oregano, rosemary, thyme, turmeric but does not like the taste of basil at all. Curries can be strong flavoured so make it bland and then try it. or you can try lentil soup and add any vegetables to it. all the strong flavoured food are rejected by him. check this link out- http://wholesomebabyfood.momtastic.com you can find sugarfree cakes and biscuits here. my son loves banana pancakes, apple cake. so i give him that once a week (sugarfree) or oats biscuits prepared at home. For banana pancakes just take 1/2 banana, one egg and beat them together and make pancakes. no sugar or flour needed. sprinkle some cinnamon or some chopped berries. everybody struggles now and then with the eating habits. Hope he starts eating something he likes soon :)

need to search for options myself. my 16 month old was happy in his ikea high chair so far but now just starts screaming after eating either half or 1/4 of his meal. rest he wants me to feed him by running after him. he wants to sit on top of dining table and eat. :) Probably only a phase he is going through... testing the mommy borders of patience at that age. Been there and done that. Please dont make a habit of feeding your son on the go because it is a habit that is very difficult to break. (speaking of experience) He will get over it, just stay firm and keep feeding at the table. On the other hand, the chair might have become a bit to uncomfortable for him since his feet are dangling out and have no support, just a thought. Thanks for the advice.i'll keep that in mind and would try to feed him there only. breakfast and lunch are the battles.for dinner he doesn't complain even once and finishes it off. for his feet i keep a stool underneath which he keeps on kicking or mine legs on the stool so that he can keep his feet on them. i'll go and get the booster seat now.

hey floycd we are also planning to shift to Canada. I am also searching between Toronto vs Calgary vs Vancouver. I have found few good websites. mainly you have to think where your job is better? for us we have now ruled out Calgary as the weather is not favorable and also our job scenario. So far i am finding toronto better but once we go there and see we will not be able to decide much. check out this link it has useful info's- http://www.livingin-canada.com/best-places-to-live-in-toronto.html you can compare different cities.
