Burjuman Deira City Centre Mall of the Emirates Dubai Mall all link without having to go outside. Burjuman is a bit of a mess though with all the renovations going on-and the entry immediately by the metro is closed for now even half of the mall is closed down. :(

I have been to Sri lanka 3 times but that was before baby. the last trip was adventurous full of hiking, rafting, walking, etc. with young children you will find it difficult as there are lots of insects like leeches. (the sinharaja rainforest is full of them) you can go to kandy which is a hill station and beautiful or to nuwara eliya which has tea estates and few kms down a beautiful farm. also there is south of sri lanka with beaches (personally i find the beaches very rough there and the tides are also strong as its the Indian ocean but its relaxing if somewhere in a nice resort).sigriya is also not good for toddlers as there is rock climbing and nothing else to do there with very less accomodation options. just google it and you will find tea estates, hill stations, beaches suitable for young children. also prepare yourself for car journey. every time we were there we hired a car with a driver and the travel there takes a lot of time. sometimes the journey seems endless!!

i always prefer long sleeves night suit even when ds had fever. although i made him slept in 0.5 tog grobag. you check his tummy by keeping your finger there. if it feels fine then ok, otherwise check for hot or cold and layer accordingly. no need to put on too much clothes. hope your baby feels fine soon.

jeans from salsa too goes a long way but they are for skinny people so might be good for you....Gap jeans are very comfortable and i like them very much. Jeans district in dubai mall is fine. i got one boyfriend jeans from there and its good. just remembered i have seen one shop in sunset mall on jumeirah road who makes personalized jeans. you have to select your own style and colour etc and they make according to your shape. has anybody given it a try? i don't remember the shop's name. edited by angel joy on 01/07/2013

i too have curly hairs...they are good at home but goes all frizzy and limp in the weather outside. and they require shampoo in just 2 days. i am also researching some products to keep them as it is. one of my friend uses loreal hair spray and has found it good. i still have to give it a try.

Thank you for such detailed insight. I mostly do what I feel is right but sometimes books take a better hold on me. You are right lolacat and livelytrish maybe he is catching onto my anxiety. I"ll try to rethink my options. But we do not have a violent environment or hit him, nor I have seen other kids hitting each other down In the play area. But he might have observed some place that.'s why he does it. He needs to be taught discipline but for now 1-2 minutes timeouts would be fine.he doesn't listen if I say something just carryon screaming. Reading back to my second post I cringe. That didn't came out the way I wanted to express. I think I have forgotten the art of articulation! sleep deprived mind and late hour maybe to blame. But thank you for all the suggestions and advice. I have to consume his energy more so that he doesn't get violent.

i made him say sorry (just [b'>holding his ears[/b'>) and give them a kiss which he happily gave :) tell him firmly "ouchie, you hurt me.mama is sad and angry. [b'>i will not talk to you for 5 min[/b'>" I am sorry, but your baby is 14 months old. Good god, how mean are you? and selfish too. Why is this all about you? You want him to feel empathy at 14 months? I too, am curious to know about his diet. I am sure that you must be giving him something. Did you potty train him yet? Don't waste time, perhaps you can pin him to it. no need to come so strong crashingwaves....when you want to sleep train your baby right from 6 months there is no hidden selfish motives there right? some people follow baby led weaning right from the start that's not selfishness right? even if baby is not able to eat because of the teething.you want your baby to start becoming independent and understanding in many aspects but not in terms of discipline. i show him how to say sorry by holding my ears not his (just wrote that in a hurry) where he has got the concept that i have done something bad. is that you being selfish or mean for your own sake or for your child's sake who should start learning other things. come and meet my baby, he is not just normal 14 month old. he is very observant and grasps his surrounding real quickly and is hyperactive. as for the diet no sugar or salt are in his diet yet...well you are very sure i am giving him something?? is it bad to seek advice of others who have kids that this is a phase which will pass away? we are a first time parents and he is the first in our friend circle too so i come here for advice. just think your words before saying to any mom that she is selfish and mean...its nothing about me, or for him to become emphatic. please do not be such judgemental..your words" pin him to it" sounds so bad don't they?? this isn't about potty training.. i don't know why people vent "their" frustrations on others!! edited by angel joy on 26/06/2013

thank you for your wonderful advice ladies. he has showed less tantrums today but he pulled hair of 2 little girls down in the playarea (which is a first) i made him say sorry (just holding his ears) and give them a kiss which he happily gave :) then we came back and i talked to him.how much he listened or understands...that only he knows. @the dangerous blond: mine is a hyperactive toddler.he doesn't like to sit and play since he was 8 months old when he mastered crawling he has been walking or rather running since 10 months old. he runs like a bullet whole day in the house. in the evening to the play area, where he wants to climb stairs atleast 10-12 times. on alternate days we goto club where he plays in the pool and playarea both. taking him out of the pool always leads to tantrum. even after 1 hr of play he doesn't want to come out. i think that's enough activity for a 14 month old...but there is a very thin line between overstimulation and being less stimulated. at the moment (since yesterday) i go in the kitchen and tell him firmly "ouchie, you hurt me.mama is sad and angry. i will not talk to you for 5 min" he stands and cry or babble whole time clutching my leg.then i made him say sorry and kissie.after that he is fine for some time then hits again but we afre following same pattern. keeping in the cot didn't worked as he screamed at the top of his lungs and has stopped sleeping in the cot :( now after much playing hide and seek ine cot and cajooling he has started sleeping again but only till 2 am. after that he wants to sleep either between us or on me on the recliner. i think i'll start meditation to be more patient :)

Lol @ GirlAnachronism! One of my biggest gripes about Zara is the extremely condescending attitude of the staff. I've lost count of the number of times I've bought something there and the whole transaction has been done without ONE WORD spoken to me by the sales assistant. One time I actually said 'Do you realise that you haven't said one word to me?' and he gave me a look of such contempt, as if I was dirt on his shoe. In the immortal words of Edina from Absolutely Fabulous 'Drop the attitude sweetie, you're only a shop assistant'. (With apologies to all the lovely & helpful sales ladies out there) so true...few days back when the sale wasn't even there i asked the staff at DCC " do you ave any idea when the discounts are starting?" she replied no we are not planning on one! and later on she swiped my card and gave me such a look and saying, this is not working. my card was perfectly fine when i called customer care it was the issue with their machine and the connectivity which later on worked fine with other machine. hello!! i don't bother much but that day baby was cranky so i replied back to her. so rude!

I haven't given bottle to my son who is now 13 months old.he was a great sleeper till 6 months then suddenly started waking up at night.sometimes 3-4 imes sometimes 6-7 imes. I followed attachment parenting and used to listen to his demands all the time. But from past few days I think it has started backfiring on me. He screams (what a throat) cries, hits, and can carryon for 45 minutes if not given milk.i tried patting,rocking,swaying....nothing soothes him except for what he wants.he has become irritated too....seems frustrated whole time and our ears are getting numb from consistent crying. He is so headstrong and stubborn. I am just hoping one day he'll start sleeping through the night. I have. Necked with docotr twice..no medical conditions apart from teething.he changes his routine as to suit him. He is going to sleep at 10:30 now as compared to 8:30 before. Yesterday I took him for his night routine at 7:30 and he didn't went to sleep till 11! I dozed off before him.:)

I can say only about the imh.my gynae was dr Andrea and she used to operate there and city both.i opted for imh as it was very close to my home just 500 mts away.secondly I found city to be too crowded at that time.the staff was very busy probably I reached there a a wrong time but found all the staff to be so busy that they couldn't satisfy my queries.but I have always read good views about city here. I felt very much relaxed at imh.their labour room is a bit small but the after care was amazing and all the nursing staff was good.

Thanks Cleo . I am going through a similar phase with my 13 month old right now. You just saved me a tripmo his paediatrician. I do not force feed and he still is on Bf so I offer that if he is not eating at all. He loves scrambled eggs and that's the only thing he will eat full and pumpkin too. But it's very irritating sometimes cooking different meals only to eat 4-5 times :)

your head piece is beautiful and would go well with a embroidered skirt or a lehenga. Indian weddings is full with bright colours and makeup and heavy jewellery. makeup does not need to be heavy if you have a heavy dress or jewellery.

As the OP suggested even in the nursery fair few nurseries wouldn't tell the fees and wanted us to come and have a tour. the teachers there were very charming and we came home with loads of brochures for different nurseries. personally i feel that recommendation of other parents, budget, area all these matter the most. seeing on the website is no help at all.

couldn't you change your stay for hotel apartment? i have taken 1 trip with ds and prefer hotel apartments now. i have been to thailand ( when baby was not there) and food is really limited there.i mean, i am vegetarian and it was difficult to get food for me,(in bangkok, koh samui, pattaya and phuket were good) on the other hand my husband loved it very much. street food is in abundance there. i am thinking hard but for the toddler it will be difficult for you. as for the meat i would be careful in handling too as there would be climate change, hygiene all those factors. (its going to be rainy and hot at some places) where are you going exactly? sorry i am not of much help.

just follow your baby's cues. mine is 1 year old too and i follow his cue. i feed him half and then keep half on his chair so that he can eat on his own. if he refuses after 7-8 spoon i stop and give him a break and try again after some time. if second time also he refuses then meal time is over. i have never measured exactly but i know how much he takes in 1 meal. then there are days, like today, where he had very little quantities of food. do you give 5 times with 3 meals and 2 snacks?

thanks everybody. Flydiver i am really dreading teaching him spitting as my baby is a very keen observant and very naughty. so i am sure spitting everywhere would be there for a while :) then comes potty training! ah the joys! Scribs i read the same article and was looking to start the same but after coming across alot of articles and reports today, flouride free toothpaste is recommended for babies under 2 as their digestive system is still sensitive. from 2 onwards same toothpaste which family is using is fine but only a smear not a big glob as per the advertisements!
