i am considering the same option of leaving my baby in the day care rather then home. i am not comfortable at all leaving him alone with the babysitter in the apartment.

after reading on several different threads here i have tried huggies and c4's own brand too. my baby had rashes from all. he is only fine with pampers sensitive ones. it all depends on your baby. for my ds huggies always leak whatever the size :)

i know its overwhelming!! for 6 months before delievery we researched so much. mostly every weekend went in this exercise. we finally got bugaboo bee plus and it was worth the money. i got maxi cosi cabriofix along with it. bugaboo is light weight, easy to fold, easy to manouver,i don't have to use both hands to puch it. just a light touch from one hand.ds likes facing me (6 month old) so that's a good thing and it folds in both the positions.i travel alot in metro and taxis's and it is very easy. the only problem is that ds is a big baby and i think i have to get a chameleon soon. he fits in that completely :D

have shopped from souq.com previously and it is safe.but at that time it was cash on delivery option :) do you know the computer street in bur dubai? if you get down at al fahidi metro station walk towards deira and in between computer shops there is a lane going on right hand side. enter meena bazaar and you'll see perfume shops. i have bought some and still buy mostly from sheeba and one shop i don't know the name. be prepared to walk if you are the first timer.

Thx ladies - I do feel yes, it is the witching hr and today I took him out for a long walk by the marina - no tantrums! Seems to be today's cure at least! i did the same thing with ds :) even when it wasn't that cold outside, in july. he developed it as a habit and now starts being fussy or screams letting me know that its time to head out or down to the play area. even for dinner he starts becoming fussy and as soon as looks at his utensils he waits for few min for the food to be served :D

Hi, I took my DD to the UK at 4 months. She slept most of the way in a night flight from Dubai. She had er usual naps through the day an I put her to bed at her usual time (7.30pm). Even with the 4 hours time difference at this time of year she got up at her normal time (6-7am). Don't make a rod for our own back getting up at 4am. You are going to be totally wiped out and for family that are working if you put your DD to bed 4 hours earlier than normal uk time they won't get to see her. My advice, go with the flow, don't clock watch and you'll be surprised how your DD adjusts. Good luck i am also travelling to india which is 1 and a half hour ahead of dubai. i was wondering if i have to do everything late for ds which would get quite late there. but i think after reading your post i will let ds take the lead and would follow his cue after first day :) thanks

i tried colicaid, infacol, gripe water as ds suddenly developed mild case of colic when he was 8 weeks old. i only gave gripe water 1-2 times and stopped as it was too sweet. even the other drops could not help. so i stopped everything. controlled my diet eating light and less gaseous foods and made him sleep elevated. hang in there suddenly one day after turning 6 month old all of this disappeared. now a days he has started spitting again particulalry after 7 pm but it could be due to cold or as i have started his solids. i am not that bothered now. bbaies take quite some time as their stomach are too tender. don't bounce him atleast 30 min after feed. and do check the sterilisation, might be maid is making a mistake somewhere. these things are too tricky. where do you keep your bottle feed? if in refrigerator don't keep in the door but at the back near the light .if in the freezer see if its thawed properly. milk develops bacteria too fast if not handled properly. i stopped expressing but then ds stopped taking bottle once my mother went back :) edited by angel joy on 04/11/2012

have been giving pedia vit past 6 months. no reaction at all. have you checked for other things? like your food (i know firts thing we think of), or formula if you are giving, might be not proper sterilisation or anything else you can of? if you have some gripe water you can try that or just massage his tummy with very light fingers with mustard oil (told by my doc) in clockwise direction.another thing is to apply warm cotton cloth like hot pack. keep for few seconds then apply again. be careful about their sensitive skin.try putting him on his tummy over you. Hope he gets soothed :( i know how bad it is to see them in pain. mine currently has cold so gets cranky sometimes. runny tummy is fine at this age. but be sure that its not too much. have you talked to your doc? edited by angel joy on 03/11/2012 edited by angel joy on 03/11/2012

(touch wood not going to jinx it) as for the soluble biscuits...never heard of them :\: there are so many things out there, isn't expat forum wonderful :D i don't want to give him sugar or processed food for some time. i will check the biscuits but not keen on that. ps:he does not take bottles. have tried 3 brands so far. i spoon feed him. when i give bottle he looks at me weirdly as if thinking why would i take that if i have your ****** :0 edited by angel joy on 02/11/2012

DEWA's bills are too random. when the consumption was more (guests) our bill was way over the top. even 2 months after that it was same.offcourse complain fell on deaf ears as always. finally after 4 months of paying now it has come down. ours meters are checked every month but living in a building only watchmen sees it.

I got my DS measured here and sent her the measurements and got two pairs in each half size up from now to cover his growth for a while. smart :D

my ds is 6 and a half month and from 5 month onwards he started waking up at night for milk. He was EBF up till now. even after starting solids (which he eats happily, i know they don't hold much value infront of milk at this age) he has increased his night feeds from 3-4 times to 8-9 times. from past 3 days me and dh are trying to lessen the feeds. we hold him, rock him, walk him. he does not open his eyes just keeps on crying. water he hasn's started uptill now. 2 days back his feeds were 4 times a night but yesterday since he was not well (cold) he kept on drinking for 2-3 minutes every hour. not to say it is tiring for all of us! i hate sleep training. you train them and 1 thing or the other comes along and you have to start all over again. i don't know how much help consulting a doc would be. mine paed said to give him water instead of milk at night which he strongly refused and was wide awake :) waiting for the day when all this will be over.

oh i posted on this :( guess late night i forgot to click on the add message button. i went to city and IMh both. its better you go and check the suites of both the hospital. i was with dr nirmala too.and she is very good. you ask her first as she wasn't renewing her licsensefor IMH i think. i choose IMh as it was near to my house, just walking distance. staff was amazing there. always smiling and ready to do what i ask. the labour room was a bit small but at the time of labour you don't know anything else :) after delievery for me to recover thay used to take my son to nursery but i use to buzz constantly to bring him back . the staff wasn't irritated by my buzzing and believe me i was quite persistent. thirdly, my insurance was easily covering IMH, we had to pay only 300 dhs balance ( c-section) they have 2 suites there- junior and royal. you might want to check both city and IMH before deciding. all the best in deciding.

as happy 35 suggested better toavoid softeners. you don't know anything about the baby's skin so far. i washed all the clothes twice in non bio detergent only. i use "charm" from c4. quite cheap. ds's clothes are washed in normal detergent and all his pj's, nappies, inserts in non bio detergent.

Whether to give formula or not is your choice, but ask yourself, he is a big baby, how did he get that way, clearly you have plenty of milk. From the first day I started solids my son wanted to eat large amounts, so I just went with that and gave him the amount he wanted (with a milk feed first to make sure he drank plenty of milk), and continued to breastfeed on demand as well. There is no reason to add formula, unless you are trying to stop breastfeeding. ok.thanks kiwispiers :) i plan on continuing breastfeed for atleast 2 years. and i was really hesistant about the formula. so i will just increase his solids intake more and see if that helps. thanks drownedinthenile i havn't introduced broccolli so far. its been 5 days since solids. i will introduce next week probably. i want to give him something bland or bitter taste first :) he loves carrot, sweet potatoes and apples so far. just threw the avocado away :)

[b'>[/b'>you have done wonderfully sherryd by not giving sugar and reading posts like this encourage new moms like me. to try and avoid salt and sugar as long as i can.in our house also there is a tradition of giving kheer in 7 month. i'll make sure to make myself for my ds so that i can add just 1-2 granules of sugar. :) as for honey i have been told to give him some to clean his tongue but i don't know how a sucrose or fructose will clean the tongue?? :\: he is 6 month old and i have started his solids. i don't think there is any necessity to give honey. let baby develop taste without additions. i need to ask something. did you give her any bread? no recipes for cake but wishes for your dd. DO NOT EVER give honey to any child under 1 years old due to the risk of BOTULISM!! It is very dangerous!!! i know that's why i just look at people giving me advice to give honey! even if you explain why honey or salt or sugar should not be given they will look at you and say we have done this no harm! offcourse i took him to his doc once to get his tongue cleaned but he said no need it cleans on its own. so since then i am not bothered. i love fruits and have a sweet tooth too so i want to avoid sugar for my baby as long as i can as i am afraid he will develop sweet tooth pretty quickly. wonderful reading the posts here :) ps: going to home country for 2 months vacation. i am preparing myself for lots of arguments!! but i will stand my ground. first time i am dreading vacation back home :( edited by angel joy on 22/10/2012

you need to get tested for vit D first. if the levels are low then only you need the shot. lethargy is not necessarily associated with vit D deficiency. i have very very low levels of vit D from past year but my energy levels are fine. i do have sinusitis so i don't know about cold as i contract it very soon. from first month of pregnancy i had terrible leg pain which increased onto bone pain too. it kept on increasing as the pregnancy progressed and finally in 5 month i was diagnosed with low levels of vit D.my heart rate was too erratic (above then normal for pregnancy) my levels for vit d3 were 6 when they should be 250/microlitre! so i was given a shot. it helped a little with the pain. now my baby is 6 month old but i am still getting shots every 3 months as the levels have increased to 35 from 6 :( i do go out in the sun alot, forgets sunscreen every time, i do not cover, we travel alot too but still i have the deficiency.when my leg pain starts increasing i realize that its time for shot again. i do have to sit in the sun for 5-10 min without any sunscreen daily, which is almost impossible with living in aan apartment and a small baby too. get your hormones check.its a common problem for the ladies. hope it helps.

ahh!! welcome to this phase. my ds started at the same age and he is 6 months today but still no teeth. gums are so hard that even if i give him my finger it hurts :( dentinox gel is there which you can apply on her gums but it didn't helped for ds. he just liked the taste so after 3-4 times i stopped applying. i am giving him calcarea phos 21 ( homeopathic) to goto marina mall to buy that teething necklace is my weekend agenda this week. the days when itching is too much he just keeps on screaming and we bear with his screams. (he screams all the time, everybody on my floor is used to him now :) ) if i massage his gums it gives him comfort for very few seconds. i bought a gum massager from spinneys ( like a toothbrush) and that's his fav by far. also he likes tommee tippee stage 1 teether. but mind you i bought these when he was 3 month old and he started using them at 4.5 months. i give him carrot sometimes but he just throws them away.i also avoid giving meds and so far has given him calpol one day only.you have to keep on trying what give her relief. cooled washcloth, teethers, gel, cooled carrots,etc... kittycat amber teething necklace is not meant to be chewn. it releses succininc acid in contact with the skin. so it helps in bringing down the pain (supposedly) and also boosts digestion and immune system.

thank you so much ladies!! i have finally reached to some conclusions. let him be chubby. after my mom went back he was so unbearable for some time. screaming and crying all the time, not leaving my arms. but slowly and gradually i have made him a happy baby who giggles at everybody. so i'll follow his cue. might be he'll be benefited from starting solids ( from this weekend) otherwise let him have the feed. somedays he sleeps through whole night then there are nights with 5-6 wakenings. i have noticed that if he is sleeping with me he wakes up more often then sleeping in his cot. (offcourse we like to snuggle to him as he does not let me snuggle anytime, so mostly after 3 am i put him besides me) then there are days when his gums are itching too much, those days he screams and its difficult to put him to bed. but even on those days he goes to sleep by max 11 pm . afterall he also needs his beauty sleep. apart from the weight i do get lot of comments that your baby is so responsive, he is so happy,jolly,etc.... there is one baby girl in our building same age as my son,20 days younger. she comes down daily to the play area with her maid but she is so docile, not responsive just stares. so better my screaming and giggling son. whether good or bad comments don't bother me now as i am used to hearing and frankly don't give worth to what some strangers are saying. just smile and accept. its my dh and i have to work hard with him!! uff i have 2 babies :) hopefully he is better once his solids start (poor guy just keep on staring at me eating and try to make chewing motions) thank you all for the support and to keep the hopes up. if babies are so attuned to all our requirements they wouldn't be baby now :)

What sort of price range are you looking for? We always buy cakes from the Ramada Hotel in bur Dubai, and they make lovely vlack forest cakes, white forest....lots of others too. They are reliable and you can usually get something of a decent size for between 150 - 190 Dh. They taste nice, not too sweet. here it is...one more hidden gem besides home only :) i recenlty searched quite alot fo dh's birthday cake....got one from bakemart in karama for 75 dhs (1 kg) it was fine. not too good but that might be due to higher temperature of my refrigerator. their choclate ganache is very good but steer cleer of mango mousse so very sweet and artificial ( not fresh mangoes) if nothing then last moment buy is always red velvet cupcake from bloomingdales :)

thanks sandy :) i goto Safa clinic too. last time a doctor there told me " so laboured breathing, not good,no vaccines, unwell" exactly those words. i got worried but then another doctor checked up and said he is completely fine! and they gave him vaccines. for the weight issues i have to put my dh's mind to rest. i remember during pregnancy, one whole time he surfed on internet, he read that i should sleep on my left side only as there are less chances of miscariage, baby grows nicely. for whole one night he was awake and didn't let me turn over. i was completely sore, crying by the morning and slept on the recliner.now he has taken doctor's advice to heart about not feeding him in the night. thankfully ds slept through whole night yesterday but if my dh said anything today i am handing ds over to him, office or no office! ds is very difficult to manage and that will shut his mouth :D i have started his water since past 3 days but so far he massages his gums with the cup, manages to take a sip or 2 . if i'll give him at night he'll wake up and start massaging :)

I now know there are 96 different species, around 50 are poisonous, and they have some of the worlds dangerous snakes. Has anyone ever come across snakes on their travels there? If yes where exactly (out on the roads,in hotel etc) how many times and what did u do or the snake do?? Thanks i have been to sri lanka twice, one relaxation and other adventurous holiday. last year we went in august and although i stayed in hotels most of the time as i was pregnant and too much of nausea spoiled my trip :) but we didn't encountered any snakes. mosquitoes and lots of leeches but no snakes. and we stayed in wilderness too just in the middle of nowhere.

So it seems we are going to Sri Lanka in 2 weeks. Please I need suggestions for a 7 day trip with a 1 year old baby. We dont want to change hotels too much as there is a lot of packing involved with a baby. This is what I plan. Day 1: Pick up from the airport at 7 am, drive to Dambulla. Visit the Caves. Overnight Dambulla / Sigiriya. Day 2: Early morning to Sigirya Rock. After Drive to Kandy. Visit Temple of Tooth, market, cultural show. Overnight Kandy Day 3: Kandy: elephants, garden, market, etc. Overnight Kandy Day 4: Day trip to Nuwara Eliya.Overnight Kandy Day 5: Drive to Negombo. Overnight Negombo Day 6: Day trip to Colombo.Overnight Negombo Day 7: Relax at beach hotel Negombo. Take flight Thank you been to sri lanka twice. done almost the same last year in august. i am not remembering the name of the hotel we stayed in kandy. it was beautiful .i'll ask my dh once he returns. but 2 nights there is nothing in kandy.sigiriya rock climb is amazing although i didn't climb as i was pregnant and doctor advised me not to :( (just kept on hearing my dh's and his friend's reviews ) not much in nuwara eliya and i didn't liked the food there too but its a peaceful place to relax. you can just sit and stare at the tea plantations. we went for 1 day but then extended our stay. if you can then make a trip to farm in nuwara eliya. its i think 1 hr drive but it was amazing. all new zealand style farm. rest your itinerary is perfect. turtle hatchery is also good. edited by angel joy on 11/10/2012 edited by angel joy on 11/10/2012
