I bought some frozen chicken in the frozen aisle - never done this before, it was a big bag of Sadia chicken breasts. Has anyone used these before? I have bought Sadia and Coop Islami frozen chicken breast (and other parts) with no complaints. I prefer, though, to buy fresh chicken like Al Rawda or Al Tamimi brands, and break it apart myself before portioning into baggies and freezing. When I'm at Carrefour MOE, I buy the fresh 1 kg trays of boneless, skinless chicken thigh meat (Al Tamimi or Al Rawda), portion it at home and freeze. I buy poultry from Union Coop and Carrefour.

I have these curlers (Jose Eber) and they don't work on my hair at all. It's really hard to get the end of the curl to look decent. Also they look more like waves than curls I only get good results with the 'drop' curl tongs that are narrower at one end and wider at the other Thanks so much for your feedback celticcavegirl, just the sort of thing I want to know about :) Do you know which barrel diameter your curling wand is? There are 3 diff sizes to choose from on Amazon.

I cant get used to the them and use the new Babyliss one which you just put the end of your hair in and it winds it in and curls it. It is foolproof for people like me who cannot use curling irons ha sarahlou123, do you have similarly fine hair like mine which normally doesn't hold a curl?

Coventry is great, but in the past when they are super busy, they have advised me to take my alterations to Dream Girls Tailors, who charge the same prices but have a quicker turnaround simply because they employ more staff. I'm really happy with Dream Girls' work. So, don't worry if they direct you to Dream Girls :)

We tried The Talk lunch buffet using the Fine Dining vouchers in Feb last year and were disappointed. I later attended a private function at the same hotel and the spread was 100 times more delicious than what they serve at The Talk. Go figure.

Ingredients: 3 tablespoons olive oil, more for drizzling 1 large onion, chopped 2 garlic cloves, minced 1 tablespoon tomato paste 1 teaspoon ground cumin 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt, more to taste 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper Pinch of ground chili powder or cayenne, more to taste 1 liter chicken or vegetable broth 1 cup red lentils 1 large carrot, peeled and diced Juice of 1/2 lemon, more to taste 3 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro. 1. In a large pot, heat 3 tablespoons oil over high heat until hot and shimmering. Add onion and garlic, and sauté until golden, about 4 minutes. 2. Stir in tomato paste, cumin, salt, black pepper and chili powder or cayenne, and sauté for 2 minutes longer. 3. Add broth, 2 cups water, lentils and carrot. Bring to a simmer, then partially cover pot and turn heat to medium-low. Simmer until lentils are soft, about 30 minutes. Taste and add salt if necessary. 4. Using an immersion or regular blender or a food processor, purée half the soup then add it back to pot. Soup should be somewhat chunky. 5. Reheat soup if necessary, then stir in lemon juice and cilantro. Serve soup drizzled with good olive oil and dusted lightly with chili powder if desired. Yield: 4 servings. I sometimes sneak in 1-2 small Arabic koosa, peeled, at the same time as the carrot. DH loves this soup.

I send my children to The Childrens Garden in Jumeira. We have found a place at Jumeira Baccalaureate School for our oldest child, when he will be 6 yrs old. My neighbor's child also attends TCGJ and they were able to secure placements at American School of Dubai, JBS and Gems World Academy for their child when he turns 6yrs old.

There are fancier places to buy Pakistani clothes suitable for attending a wedding -Designer's Lounge, opp Sunset Mall on Beach Rd -Tima, opp Dubai Zoo on Beach Rd -Soiree, on Al Wasl Rd between Life Pharmacy and Safa Park -Kimaya, on Wasl Rd opp Dubai Zoo on Beach Rd Pakistani weddings tend to have 3 main events: the henna (mehndi) night, which has a more fashion-forward dress code, the wedding (elegant and sparkly) and the walima (again, elegant and sparkly). So, plan on wearing 3 different outfits. I googled Pakistani hairstyles recently and got some good ideas. Colored smoky eyeshadow is a preferred look. edited by Apricot on 23/01/2014 <em>edited by Apricot on 23/01/2014</em>

Also in Meed was a story about Jumeirah Beach Road and Al Wasl Road to be made one-way and a 16-lane bridge over the Dubai Water Canal that will link Business Bay and the Gulf along the southern edge of Safa park. Exciting stuff! Not exciting for people who live in or own homes in Jumeira 1,2, and 3.

I have easier directions to Satwa that avoid the busy intersection from Al Wasl Rd. Take SZR to Dubai Mall - take the exit to Jumeira, Go down safa street (Dubai Petroleum on your right) - take the right turn at the traffic junction after Dubai Petroleum (onto Al Satwa Road). You will go through 3 traffic junctions before you end up smack dab in the middle public parking area of Satwa. I turn left as soon as I spot the big Emirates Bank ad against the side of the bank building so I end up parking across from Deepak's, Regal etc.

Thanks ladies for all your expert tips! I've only started cooking Arabic yogurt sauce recently cuz DH misses his mum's special vegetarian shish barak (equal weight of sauteed mushrooms subbed for the minced meat) bi laban, obviously not something he can order from a restaurant. Initially I hated this sauce so much, it was the only Arab dish I wanted to vomit, but we ate it a lot at lunch-time cuz my late FIL really liked it with chunks of lamb and artichokes and celery (laban ummu) and with koosa mahshi (marrow stuffed with ground lamb and rice), then I tried it in Beirut at DH's cousin's home and she's infamous in the family as a terrible cook but I LOOOVED her laban sauce. Everything tastes better in Lebanon! So now I was ready to accept that this sauce COULD taste great, but I only recently started cooking it. My mother in law gave me great directions for making her special veggie shish barak and I watched her make and shape them and even how she stacked them for freezing, but I never concentrated when she or her maid made yogurt sauce. So Lamaaz and Singarosa, I've been using Al Ain yogurt. Last time I tried, the yogurt sauce was great until I added the baked shish barak, set the flame to lowest setting, covered the pot and let it cook 20 min to soften the shish barak a bit. When I returned to check on the shish barak, the sauce had split.

Hi, I tried making yogurt sauce twice, following the instructions of a Jordanian friend, and both times the sauce split and tasted awful! I put 1 kg of yogurt, 1 teaspoon corn starch (corn flour/ nesha) and some water into a blender, mixed it up, then cooked at a simmer, stirring. First it went kind of thick, then the whole sauce went watery, then I added shish barak and the whole sauce just split into yucky curds. Pls help!

Also at the airport, do they go through all your suitcases? There's a suitcase xray after baggage claim. They only open my cases if I have big vitamin/medicine bottles or multiple cartons of medicine tablets. They're mainly checking the type of medicine coming in, and ensuring that you're only bringing enough for personal consumption rather than re-sell.

to make tacos and tortillas, you need masa harina. I've seen it at Safestway. I've also seen a maize meal product from South Africa at Spinneys in their baking aisle, but I'm not sure if it's the same thing as masa harina.

Asalaam sisters, i also want to join these classes inshaalah. Do you have to have a certain level of quranic knowledge and recitation? is it ok to be a complete beginner? Hi Almas24, no you can show up as a complete beginner. You will not understand everything the teacher is saying at first, but if you keep attending, you will soon understand. They even have a website where you can find the notes for previous talks, sistersnotes.wordpress.com

Does anyone use Bioderma spf 100. What do you think of it? I cannot use Bioderma SPF 100, it has the same skin-sensitizing ingredients that Neutrogena Healthy Skin/ Healthy Defense sunblock has, ie. my face feels like it's on fire when I apply it. I have a small sample size of the Bioderma 100 (courtesy of a salon) that I'm happy to pass on to you if you want to try it, just let me know. <em>edited by Apricot on 12/01/2014</em>

Hi Anouja, I went to maps.google.com, typed in San Mateo Marriott and got a good map incl all nearby shopping centers. Near your hotel, there is a Michael's crafts store, then across the street from Michaels there is a strip mall including TJ Maxx, Ross dress for less, Trader Joe's (discount gourmet groceries, I always get sundried tomatoes and vanilla extract to bring back to Dubai). There is also a Kmart (similar to Walmart). A little further away on El Camino is Hillsdale Shopping Center, which includes Sears, Macy's and Nordstrom dept stores, Hot Topic, etc. Across the street from Hillsdale Shopping Ctr is a big Old Navy store (owned by Gap, but cheaper material used), Barnes and Noble bookstore, Big 5 Sporting Goods. there are nice boutiques and fancy cafes in Burlingame, you can get a listing from burlingame.org

I use zinc oxide based sunscreen, but I have someone send it to me from abroad. I have used Blue Lizard Sensitive, California Baby Sensitive, Paula's Choice SPF 50 hand cream (both on hands and face) and Boots No7 Tinted moisturizer SPF 30, without any negative reaction on my sensitive, acne prone skin. The best of these (least amount of white cast, thin easy to apply texture) is Paula's Choice hand lotion. I buy sunscreen at lower price points because I re-apply several times during the day and I also use it on the back of my hands.
