Dubai Marina Mall between Mothercare and Ethiad, there's one of those 'pop up' stands, but it's been there ages. I've not used them so am unable to say what they are like.

We have to be careful about such posts and we should stick to formal meet ups ie EW coffee mornings. If you're visiting family why do you feel lonely? Just have to ask as normally families receiving visitors ensure they have a full itinerary planned so they're not lonely or bored...just asking..

Mistral Restaurant at IBN Gate do an evening Surf n Turf on a Thurs & Fri evening with drinks, and there's vouchers in the Family Entertainer. I've not been but are planning to go next month with our visitors. Perhaps someone on here could give some feedback?

As a result of a similar thread on here a few months ago, someone recommended Fusion in JLT. We got out of our comfort zone (Rupee Room) and tried Fusion. It's great, my hubby is addicted. We'd describe it as rustic, but the mutton biryani is so tender. Having heard good things about the Hungry Tiger, we might give that a try soon. But give Fusion in JLT a try.

I know of people who have had to produce their tenancy agreement when renewing their visas. I wonder how those living in serviced apartments get around this?

If I understand the laws correctly, you are not allowed to rent a room. As when you apply for a UAE residency visa you must now produce a tenancy agreement in your name, so if you are renting a room you won't have your own tenancy agreement, therefore cannot obtain a residency visa. However, I'm sure someone on this forum with more in depth knowledge will be able to advise properly. Is this is force yet? I heard about it, but wasn't sure if it was actually happening - it sounds like a disaster waiting to happen! edited by April Flower on 29/08/2013

Delighted to report back on Fusion, they were 10 mins late in delivering, no problem really. The food was hot and tasty. Not as refined as Rupee Room, we describe it as rustic. The mutton was tender, which was a bonus. The price was good and we will definitely use them again.

We've tried Brick Lane and Curry Box in the past - no thank you. We love Rupee Room and always order from them. However, based on the comments below, this evening we are going out of our comfort zone and I've just ordered from Fusion. Will report back later.

They may ask you what you would do in certain situations, whether it be dealing with a student or a parent. Reception generally consolidate the register/lates/absents, etc. They may ask you about what you know about the brand/organisation. I'm sure there will be training given on their systems. Reception is generally the font of all knowledge - so being aware of all or as many of the school's activities, during and after school. But I think in the main, they'll be looking for a nice, warm, welcoming, smiling person. Good luck!

Hello again I hve contacted a few schools in Dubai from the UK and two have told me they have places and there is a registration fee. I haven't personally checked these schools out yet (which we will do on arrival) and we haven't found accommodation yet either. So my question is when do you start paying the registration fees or any other fees? I hear so much about the lack of school places so am I being overly cautious? I also don't want to pay 500Aed for each school and realise we don't want any of them! I thought it was a case of if the school wants you...not you wanting them? Any advice welcome x
