Hello again I hve contacted a few schools in Dubai from the UK and two have told me they have places and there is a registration fee. I haven't personally checked these schools out yet (which we will do on arrival) and we haven't found accommodation yet either. So my question is when do you start paying the registration fees or any other fees? I hear so much about the lack of school places so am I being overly cautious? I also don't want to pay 500Aed for each school and realise we don't want any of them! Any advice welcome x

La Veranda is Pasta/pizza, tratorria-esque. Waterfront is Mediterranean-esque, aiming at the health conscious, but as mentioned, great views of the Burj and 'on the beach' and licensed. We all have different tastes and definitions on 'fab', these two restaurants are good, but not fab! So ignore what I've posted! It's a while since we've had 'fab' here in Dubai.

Pai Thai is in the Entertainer Fine Dining. I don't have the Family book but I know Waterfront and La Veranda at Jum Beach Hotel are in there. But they're a different type of venue to Pai Thai, great views though!

Wow, I'd say that's good work from the police, especially as you thought you'd lost it in the taxi, after you had paid the fare. I must admit I'm not very vigilant of my bag in restaurants, I will be now.

He 'lives' in his bedouin, just next to the side of the Ritz Carlton, on the beach in between the Ritz and Le Royal Meridien, don't know what time he takes the camels out but am sure you if you walk past there you may see him and speak with him. edited by April Flower on 14/05/2013

Miss Faye08 - how do you know there is a fine to pay? Silly question I'm sure. But my DH had an accident last month near Baraccuda, it wasn't another car involved, it was a donkey!!! Don't ask! The police gave him a white copy, he never mentioned there was a fine to pay.

We'll be celebrating 28 years at the end of this month. I also get a cup of tea every morning, because he does it better than me! He cooks dinner, more times than I do! Because he does it better than me! I get called Princess or chickedee numerous times a day. He always asks if I need a hand if I'm doing the dishes or washing. We tell each other how much we love each other, not every day, but often. And we still make each other laugh. I reckon I struck very lucky with my DH.

Ah, not sure about exchange rates, I suppose you would have to do the maths. I think Al Ansari Exchange charge a AED60 transfer fee.

We stayed at 3 different hotels in one stay - the Moevenpick next to the Tamassa, you can just walk along the beach to the different hotels. Another Beachcomber hotel in Beau Vallon, Le Mauricia - steer clear and The Shandrani, all inclusive, it was fabulous. In one of the restaurants you get to choose the bottle of grape, not just by the glass! Fizz is served from 6pm. Lots of activities are also included. We took dollars and changed the currency as we needed to. NB Some of the smaller/local establishments prefer local currency, we ended up borrowing money from our driver when we first arrived! Enjoy.

Why can't you do a transfer from your UAE account to the UK? therefore avoiding the need to be carrying cash.

It's well up the beach in between Le Royal Meridien/Ritz. The camel man has his tent pitched there.

I live in JBR too opposite the Ritz. My sister stayed at the Movenpick and had to move rooms due to the noise. I'd suggest he stays clear of the Hilton/Movenpick area, maybe try Le Royal Meridien/Habtoor which are some distance from the works, or the newly refurbed Le Meridien Mina Sehyahi.

We were there in March for 9 days, we had a lovely time despite heavy rain falls for most of the time. We found the sea too cold! so couldn't comment on the coral. We stayed in 3 different resorts, all different, but if I had children, I'd recommend The Shandrani, it's an all inclusive resort. I'd recommend it even if you don't have children, there's lots of secluded areas, and a great selection of restaurants. Most Water activities are included. Hope this helps.

Spot the errors: The perosn must have experience of working in this region and have good connections in the media. They must have a good writing style and preferably have interest in the organic and helathy life style segment. I'll pass on this one!

AusJor - you advise getting an entry stamp put onto a separate piece of paper. If the stamp is on the passport does this cause a problem getting back into UAE? Some friends mentioned this yesterday. Thank you.
