What we experienced was fog/mist, not smoke. We live in JBR, a few blocks down from Sofitel. We were having a BBQ when the mist descended, it was very eeerie and it went chilly. I remember it happening last year too. Got some good photos of it though!

Have you, since November, renewed/applied for your Emirates ID card, paid the AED40 to have it couriered to your home/office to be now informed by Empost you have to collect it from Karama Post Office? Apparently the system has now changed. We paid for courier service, that won't happen, so now we want a refund, but trying to get through to the ID Card office, another story. Just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this. TIA

Try ebookers.com we purchased MIL and SIL tickets last year for them, and there's probably only a pound or so difference in price. I booked Emirates flights for them. edited by April Flower on 12/12/2011

We stayed at Centara, again all inclusive and we upgraded to Club. There was a separate pool/lounge with premium brands. http://www.centarahotelsresorts.com/cirm/cirm_default.asp. The food in the main was fabulous.

Babylons, the fact you will be with your gran, will be enough, am sure. The photos are a great idea for your Gran, or anyone. With everything digital, we seem to have lost the 'family album'. Enjoy a lovely time.

I'm probably having a senior moment here, but is the food already cooked? Or raw? Does it need to be reheated (we don't have a microwave). Thank you.

Eid in the UAE is like a Bank Holiday in the UK, a definite stay at home - we have stayed at home, we've walked everywhere these last few days, it's been lovely. Especially having seen the queues of traffic trying to get into JBR. However, I do have tentative plans to venture to Ikea on Wednesday morning. Good idea? Or not?

I think you mean an inventory. We didn't have one which I now regret not insisting on, 3 yrs later. There was drill holes in the wall where a rail for 2 blinds had been put up previously. The agent wasn't worried. Record as much info as you can.

We were there on Thurs too, thorouhgly enjoyed it. We were invited because we signed up for a Wafi card. You could ring: Kersh on 04 324-4100, or visit www.wafirestaurants.com. That's the person I was dealing with, but I think it may have finished now. Hopefully they'll do some more shows in the coming months.

Thank you. The agent is saying she will pay the deposit out of her own pocket until we can get the cash to her later this evening. She said she'd give us a receipt, it's difficult when we really want the apartment.

We stayed there some months ago, lovely, our only observation, which we passed onto them was they should have an 'adults only' pool. They have 2 pools, a big one with a paddling pool at the side, which is ideal for families. Then another smaller one which would be great for adults only, but the grassed area next to it became a football pitch for the youngsters. Whether they did anything about creating dedicated adult only areas or not, I don't know. Not been back...yet. But our room was lovely.

Although it doesn't seem to happen too often - it does happen, especially on a Friday and perhaps more so when salaries have been paid. I think it's a way for the banks to 'hold onto our money' for a few hours more - gaining them interest perhaps? Or as it's Friday - they will say it's 'mainenance'. Just my thoughts!!!
