If a property has been sold by a developer (without a stipulation that animals are forbidden), then how can a managment company impose this without reference to teh owners, You will fidn that developers here can have a lot of say even after selling a place; owners still need "permission" for things, and developers can and do change rules when they want.

In many shops and restaurants where there are staff from all religions, Muslims often get to take Eid day off just like the Christians get Christmas Day off. If someone can give their maid a day off they should, but it is a sad sign that giving Eid off is seen as "spoiling" them

Are there any actual ways in which they can "enforce" that notice? If not, I will ignore it till the end of the existing lease.

Legally, there is no holiday for them nor is there a working hours limit so they can be asked to work 16 hours a day. But the decent thing to do will be to give 2 days off for Muslims and 1-2 days off for non-Muslims

Well it would be lovely if they actually finished all the other 'under construction' projects first before launching new ones. Still waiting - 7 years on, for the other Canal to be finished in Sport City! Dubai is a constant construction site - do you really think tourists want to come and be stuck in traffic jams for hours on end and 'try' to get to places? No, people want to come somewhere with good infrastructure, that is 'easy' - Dubai is far from 'easy' at the moment. In terms of road infrastructure, Dubai is just about perfect now, or would be near perfect with the completion of Umm Suqeim Expressway. Once the 3 roads have construction started, it all depends on what barriers are put and whether any lanes are closed or not that will decide the congestion. Any lane closure on Wasl Road or SZR will cause a lot of problems

If they don't go forward and just focus on perfecting what is already here, Dubai will lose some of its charm, as a lot of tourists come to see what's new. Strategy. edited by EmmaRitz on 03/10/2013 There is plenty of space to build new stuff, and that is what is being done with the Zoo, Dubailand etc.

Remember the plan to demolish Satwa with one comment still lingering in my head, something on the lines of "you cannot afford to have such unglamorous areas so close to Burj Dubai" My personal opinion is that unless managed brilliantly, this Canal project will cause extreme traffic problems. That part of Dubai is one of the efficient ones, with heavy traffic flow, but all is reasonably smooth and in a sort of unstable equilibrium. I

I have seen Dr. Yasmin, an endodontist from Dr Michael's Dental Clinic and she was very good! I would recommend that you see her. She's very thorough with the way she does root canals. I've had a few bad experience with a dentist who sealed up my teeth only to find out there are still something left inside my cavity (or whatever hat's called). Is she someone who looks like she would be able to handle nervous patients? :)

One of the reasons I was not too enthusiastic about the Business bay extension was traffic. Imagine if construction occured across Szr, Wasl, and Jumeirah roads. Spoke too soon ! It definitely sounds exciting but I hope we do not have too many disruptions :) http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/dubai-creek-extension-project-canal-to-pass-under-new-bridge-on-shaikh-zayed-road-1.1238576

This doesn't surprise me at all. It was already the case a few years ago. But unfortunately the myth that westerners earn a fortune here still prevails... I recently spoke to a Pakistani man who said I was v lucky to be British as on average ppl from my country earned 2-3 times more than others. What a load of rubbish! It was not rubbish few years back. There were companies where you had salary bands, and Brits and other westerners definitely got 3 times what an Asian did. However, now companies have become smarter, and many pay more for Asians who are talented and will not offer thrice the salary for the same job

Funny thing is that the lowest earning people have their homes built in their home countries while the higher earning expats are up to their necks in debts (And that's a sweeping generalization I know :)). True, depends on where the lowest earning expats come frome and what their expectations are: An Indian from a village in a remote place will find it easy to build a small village house with a salary of 1500 dhs over a few years An Indian from Mumbai with family living here, and an income of 8000 dhs will find it impossible to buy a flat in Mumbai without taking a very large loan

Our rights as cyclists far outweighed the car drivers and even pedestrians. :-) Is that the way it should be ? I do not think so, definitely not in a spread out, hot city like Dubai. Cyclists should have lanes on some inner roads, but not on the major roads and pedestrians should have more rights than cyclists. Nothing more annoying than cyclists hurtling down a sidewalk ringing their bells at any pedestrian who does not move out of their way.

They have a habit of posting bizarre news. And they seem to have some connection to Sri Lanka, as some of the main stories on their homepage has to be some extremely trivial news report from Sri Lanka on how a couple had a fight or how a man blackmailed his lover.

The whole presence of a speed camera at an abnormally low speed is detrimental to traffic flow. Why build a nice 4 lane road and then have a camera flashing at 80 kph? We have 3 nice freeways, but do not have adequate smaller freeways to connect between the 3. That is why getting on Al Khail from SZR is anything but smooth. You have one lane to exit to Knowledge village, Tecom, Greens, Barsha and Al Khail Completiong of the Umm Suqeim freeway may make things better

Why would someone with a family ideally keep his or her money here? There is absolutely no incentive for any expat to keep money here. If you could safely and soundly buy a property here, be given a 10 year visa and retire, then yes it makes send. But expats can do none of that and if there is a death in the family, the funds are blocked.... yes that's right BLOCKED! I would say to expats that until such time as they are given proper protection from the government, then keep sending funds offshore. edited by derien on 30/09/2013 When I said ideally I did not mean they should, but that in a perfect world that is what would take place. Of course in an ideal world, people would get more stability and funds would not be blocked

I sympathize with those who cannot have families here because it is too expensive; they need to be able to send money back home. On the other hand someone who has his family here should ideally not send the majority of his income abroad. Even then the reason people send money is because they cannot retire here. Why would they keep money in a place where it will be useless if they lose a job edited by Arch on 30/09/2013

They will need to build many more hotels to accommodate all the extra visitors resulting in more jobs in construction, its a knock on effect that will benefit everybody. I hope they get it, it will be great for the UAE It will help only the construction sector initially, and then the tourism sector, which will consist mostly of lowly paid worker in company dorms/housing If 2008 is any indication, most people will not benefit

There are too few stations for the number of people with cars. The are only 2 stations for all of Marina, Tecom, and JLT. Most German and some American cars have their petrol slots on the right so they have to queue less. The Enoc on Barsha and the Enoc at junction of Hessa and Al Khali are generally never busy

You are right; there are 6 clubs :) Dubai Clubs stadium is very prominent; on the Hatta/Oman road it lies on your right when leaving Dubai. The other 4 clubs are all more prominent; Nasr Club used to be there during WW2 times as well which is ancient in Dubai terms, but have not been that successful recently

The reason people do not know is because it is rarely flown in prominent places (Dubai Flag) Is it not common sense that they would have separate flags; as per England, Wales etc - bearing in mind the country is called [b'>United [/b'> Arab [b'>Emirates [/b'> not really; most people just know "Dubai", there was a guy interviewed on some Dubai channel last night saying "Dubai is the most international country in this Emirates"

I don't think their comments are unreasonable. Some people in this world dont get food, does that mean it is a "first world problem" if we get rotten food at a restaurant? I think their anguish comes from the fact that they paid a lot for their homes; and yet as in other areas, cheap pipes might have been used. It is one thing when their is an outage because of bad weather, it is another when an outage or floods happen because cheap material was used in spite of high prices at which the units were sold, so that the contractor/developer could make an even bigger profit edited by Arch on 19/09/2013

If Dubai wins the 2020 exhibition bid, this situation will get even more untenable as LLs will become even more bullish with their projections. November will be an interesting time! An expo 7 years from now will not have an actual effect on demand so there is only so much that you can try to increase prices by blowing hot air That's actually not true. A lot of jobs will be created by the Expo, more hotels will be built, more people will move here as a result. Prices will go up. You are right, but jobs will be created in 2017 and onwards You wont have droves of peopel coming in 2014 for an expo that happens in 2020 And when the jobs come, what will matter is how much they pay. If you have loads of people on salaries below 15,000, that wont lead to a property costing 100,000 to become 200,000. At the end of the day, the main component of demand is how much people can pay.

I would like to believe it is a horrible rumour. The way traffic is awful particularly in areas like JLT or Ittihad road to Sharjah, an ambulance may need up to 30 minutes or even more to cross 5 km, so a helicopter may mean difference between life and death.

I follow all major papers, and the 24 one is the paper which posts the most gruesome and sensational news. Their main page is bound to have some horror story and the way their page is formatted, some awful news from 2 years back remains in the "related column" so everytime you go to a crime page, you read the graphic headline, I go there seldom for this reason They also have this habit of publishing exclusive pics, of crime victims, which other papers dont publish, and sometimes even c*******.

Secondly, seems one has to have paid the full amount.. [i'>encouraging money laundering especially from emerging economies.[/i'> How many hardworking people (not into illegal and oil bunkering activities) can actually shell out 5million-15 million on a property at once without needing mortgage.? . To be honest, ultra rich people from emerging economies, many of whom made their wealth illegally (a judge owning entire floors in premium location as mentioned here once?) are the ones who benefit the most from buying and owning property here. Working professionals can also buy but dont benefit to the extent that the former do
