oh no, don't do that sweetie...blushing! Thanks so much for lovely thought, but I need to get a measure of independence back so not feeling so stupidly helpless, and if I can get our dinner delivered it'll really help. (stupidly fell down on holiday and have mangled my arm somewhat)

The Wafi santa is the best santa...just try and get there early (as in at opening time, or on a weekday to avoid the q's) Lil miss and friends really enjoy the winter wonderland at Madinat, however..i don't. The kempinsky hotel at the MoE and ski dubai normally have a santa as well, havent been to him for a few years so not sure if it's still a good option.

Ok, devils advocate here. Yes it is perfectly normal to get cold feet when finalising a relationship in such a way, and I would say especially because you have a child. Always the what if, always the devil you know. Just because you parent a child together does not mean (in my opinion only, of course) that you are perfect partners for each other...great parents, yes, but. You have lived by the sounds of it though many life altering experiences, and each individual will grow through them differently and have different responses to them. In 2009 you felt srongly enough that this relationship wasnt healthy and you moved away. your child is nurtured, and believe me, getting back together for the sake of the child only is a pathway to h3ll paved with good intentions. Now, how are YOU? How is hubby? Does he want to get back together and try again? Do you? Are both of you prepared for the work and the counselling needed to get over a seperation of nearly 3 years? Can you not finalize the divorce in the meantime and start 'dating' as opposed to re entering a full on fulltime relationship? Tricky, and you have my best wishes

Def check out with your doc about what can promote healing etc, but I think your big issue is to make the experience as painless and stressfree emotionally for the child. Talk, be natural, be up beat, be everthing except how you feel (they will pick up on your stress, ok) Lil miss was only 3 when she had her first op and SHE was atrooper despite my anxiety, and was as good as gold it seemed within minutes. We just went with the approach that this wee visit/sleep/medicine at the hospital should really help her be better instead of yukky all the time. No, we didnt operate on her hernia, she was tiny (under1?) and all experts said would heal, and it did. no issues since. I think you are getting sound advice from all your professionals hon.

SB, if it has got to this I think you really need to settle yourself with the surgery. I KNOW how hard it is to commit to for your child (just the idea of it is upsetting) but for the health and wellbeing of our kids, we do what we need to do. When lil miss had her ops (straight forward stuff, but, you know how it feels) It went so beautifully, she was so well cared for and we have never felt so glad for any choice we have made on her behalf. The change in her almost immediately afterwards was remarkable and in our eyes, dam near miraculous.

and why not post it on this forum? It has a wide and varied audience and the only person who need be concerned by such a post is the white lexus lady. It may well shame her into more circumspect driving if she sees it, or has it pointed out to her. At the very least, post such as these remind all readers that they do not in fact live in a bubble, their actions can and do effect others and serves us all as a reminder to show discipline when driving in and around schools. It could save a life, and is therefore hardly a pointless post. Quite apart from the fact, that when you witness shocking, dangerous acts you can go into a form of shock...meaning you either can't approach a perpertrator or if you do, it won't go well. It's that flight or fight thing, no? Any how OP, inform the principal of the school and get a stongly worded reminder sent out to the parents about carpark safety...ours does periodically and happily informs everyone that he will call the police on offenders.

pfft, near as goodness missed my plane last week (as in: arrived at airport 20 minutes before my overseas flight was scheduled to take off) all thanks to Dubai taxis. And we're flying again tonight and am DREADING it. Only been having problems in the last few weeks. Likewise, I never bother trying to book a cab on thursday afternoons, or around shift change, but up until recently havent really had anything to complain about.

Samui is one of my all time favourite places in Thailand. There are plenty of places to stay, enough to do. Is a gorgeous holiday place. You can book a train at any travel agency in BKK, be aware that it is an overnight train, followed by a bus ride and then a boat trip to the island. (Is great fun, we took our daughter on that trip just for the 'adventure' of it this summer been) Likewise many many hotels in BKK to choose from, and I havent been to any 'seedy' areas, though am obviously aware they exsist. A great travellers point is Kaosan Road, full of colour and markets etc. It's gone VERY commercial in the last few years (much to my dismay) but still a very cool place to stay and you'd be able to organize all your onward travel from there. Also perfectly centrally located for short taxi rides or walks to canal, train stations, metro etc to get around and visit all the sights.

same same...sudden move, hubby got the contract one thursday and started work the following sunday there. We also said we weren't going unless lil miss had a school place, and I think we were very lucky in that regard. Those fs1/2 places can seem impossible to find, but hang in there. Make sure you do lots of following up with the schools so they don't forget who you are ;) Theres a nursery called Tender Loving Care (I think...something like that anyway...maybe google will help) that a friend had her littlie in before starting at the british school when a place came up. They do the early years and lower primary, I think, and she said she really was quite sad to have her girl leave it as it was just lovely. Maybe worth a try?

Don't get stressed. (Says she who is having a major procrastination day as we have a flight to catch, am not packed and we're not here for 2 weeks, and still don't have a home to move to! lol) Lil miss did get into RFS, so we want to be the Wave end of town, but not on the wave. When do you think you'll hear about the school? We have friends in Qaboos and it certainly has it's appeal....can your boy get into British school there?

There is liwa guest house, heading out towards Maroob dune, maybe try that? If you head our towards maroob anyway there is now a proper road, so your sedan car will be fine. Alot of the central bits through the dunes are saltpans and you 'can' skirt those easily if you go just off the road, around a bend out of sight of the road to camp. I wouldnt do it as a single vehicle though, and not if you don't have experience driving off the road.

Hey Miriambill! It's all good fun isnt it? We've actually spoken with Jane (and numerous others) still no joy yet. We've done all the drives around and taken down those phone numbers etc, but it appears and I'm probably very wrong ;), that places are advertised with multiple agencies, and while one will say it's empty it'll turn out another consultant has already let it. heyho. Which area are you looking at? I might have some numbers for you!

If it was me, i would set the moses basket/cot up sooner rather than later so the cats can have a sniff and an investigate before the rightful inhabitant turns up. Then, fill the bed with balloons in the mean time and even the most stubborn cat will get the idea that THAT is not someplace for it to sleep. :D and what about retaliation? they are cats AND female. Thats you in the poo then ;) Seriously though, i did it when wee miss was born with our (female) cats and it worked a treat. They don't even pop the balloons, just the whole idea of it seems to put them off.

I kind of wish that our school would ban all photography by parents at shows and events....can never see the show properly because little johnnys and jennys entire extended family are in the way recording the entire thing for prosperity. School should film it and then sell the dvd, and take good still shots of all participants and sell those too. Excellent way to fund the next production if you ask me. Not that anyone did, but....

heard her interview on Virgin radio this morning .. She stated .. 'if she could make money of wedding she would get married 10 times a year !!!! ' who says things like l=that ... really shallow .. But it's true isnt it? If the accusation is, that she married only for publicity and money then she COULD if she liked marry ten times a year and make loads of both. The fact that she hasn't/doesn't marry 10 times a year should be underlining the fact that she is saying it wasnt a media stunt designed to boost her fortunes. (Mind you...my knowledge of her/them is based entirely on this thread :))

I checked their website and according to their terms and conditions, they'll only waive charges for the death of a family member. Nice. Staying an extra day, as it stands right now, will likely mean she will know I'm safe and the baby's OK, rather than getting on a plane and wondering if we're both all right. Worth it then DC? Give me a shout if theres anything can do. xx

Is she still straining to go to the loo? Or sudden sneezing may be enough to do it...but pinprick broken blood vessels in the cheeks of her face can be caused by a good hard tanty and the likes. Lil miss has started getting more blood noses again, they started maybe a year ago and she is nearly 7. I had them as a young one too, so either she will grow out of them, or I'll have to see what the ENT says. I had mine cauterized, and it was fairly traumatic at that age. Lil miss also had a hernia but far far younger and the advice we got then was that it wasnt a problem and should work itself out within a year..it did. This time of year here colds and allergies seem to rear up again, and excma. You're doing your absolute best with the diet, and as the mum of a picky eaty I feel your pain. (Kiwi fruit rules in this house!)

We bought our top loader over with us from NZ, absolutely no problem at all. One thing...we did have to get a man to come in and do something with the hose pipe when we installed it here, something to do with how it drained (or didnt drain) because it was on the other side of the world :) It was as simple as changing it's center of gravity.

Hi, can anybody recommend a restaurant in Terminal 1 for dinner (not food court) - we are on a night flight at 10pm and we would like to sit down and have a family meal before we fly. Does Irish Village in the airport allow children in ?? The irish village does allow kids in, and has a seperate smoking section. Also the interconti hotel. (Pick the nervous flyer who needs to chain smoke a pack of cigs before she flys and administer much vodka :) )

De twist the knickers ladies, xmas stuff going on sale early gives the consumer the option of spreading the costs over a few months. I have nearly finished the gift shopping, and have been packing the larder fullof treats for the last few months now.I see countless threads on the lead up to xmas about people moaning about how they cant find XYZ and you know why? Cause the more organised have been and bought them. Oh and they are the ones that can splash the cash on all the parties etc because they didnt leave it all to the last minute and are now skint! Thanks Dubai for being super organised. who's knickers are twisted?
