Saw Split from the boat, but didnt stay. Looked a bit industrial? Had a LOVELY time. Dubrovnic was just gorgeous, and I forget which 3 islands we stayed on, and all but 1 we would visit again in a heartbeat. Truely gorgeous gorgeous place to go. Thats not awfully helpful, is it? *scurries off to look up the LP to find out where we did go*

Why would someone put a bad picture of themselves on Facebook? Now to my mind, the only way you would know it was a bad picture is if you actually had met the person face to face :). Otherwise I would think rather than it being a bad picture, you do not think the person is very attractive. This of course is how the person really looks like so.........what is that saying about the person who thinks the picture is a bad picture without ever seeing this person lol.. and on and on and on *like* Great! Basically, you've just called someone ugly :D gee, thanks guys. And there I was thinking it was my 'good side' :D

Where are you based Shannon? Around the Springs is generally good for T&T, Arabian Ranches, pretty sure Lakes and Meadows are good too. Not sure about the Palm though? We have a little party for the kids and head out at dusk. And last year am sure there were threads up on EW about where was good to go on or near the day. Some of the communities do a flyer, lots of houses around ours decorate.

Aw, glad you like it. It's been brewing as a plan for some time, and now that school is back and I'm into the swing of it, its really great. I'm more centered, I sleep better, less likely to get myself into a kerfuffle, even the family meals have become something easy and fun to do rather than a chore to get over with. I don't recognise myself!

I got fed up with being fed up so I came up with a cunning plan. CP for short. Over the last week and a half have implemented the first stages. Clear out the rubbish. Thats your cupboards, drawers, shelves, everything. Get rid of what is not useful or beautiful. Do one thing a day to de clutter your life and shed things that are unneccesary. One cupboard a day is acheiveable without becoming daunted by the over all task. (And once you've started it becomes strangely addictive) Don't leave things for tomorrow that can be done today...even waking up to something as small as a kitchen where the dishwasher is stacked already has an incredibly free-ing feel. Exercise...and be accountable. I'm using FB to keep me honest at the moment and documenting each day (boring as all get out for the friends, but they can just ignore it! :)) that I do and don't exercise. This has naturally lead on to me taking more care with what I eat, and being more thoughtful about what I use to fuel myself. A gratitude or happiness journal in conjunction with my 'work' journal is in the next phase. And the next phase is already happening organically as well. I am more organized, and I have more time. The exercise means I have more energy and begin each day happy. The phase after that is to utilize my time effectively, and begin a more regimented approach to my 'work' which is something I am passionate about, but am often led astray from as all that time concentrating on MY passions often feels overly indulgent to me, but because I am doing good things for myself, I now feel I earn that time. hth

I am stunned arohadxb that you managed to get into Sephora and not be pounced on the second you crossed the threshold!! I hate that about Sephora. :) pfft, lucky you....maybe I dress wrong? But I have NEVER had any help in that store and I spend loads. Just trying to pruchase one thing is an ordeal. Never mind, all stocked up now and should'nt have to darken their threshold for some months :)

I just find sephora here absolutely hopeless. Was in there this morning and had to hunt down one of the staff. Which colour for my skin tone I ask holding out just 2 things. You make tan she asks> Pardon? go I, no my skin tone please. You want white? No, my actual very own skin tone. So tan? she says..is that my skin tone, I ask? No she said, is tan. Ok so my skin tone please. Well this one she finally says. Probably going to end up looking more of a clown than usual, but hey ho.

Hi and welcome. :) Lol! I remember being soooo excited everytime I heard english spoken here in the first place that I'd turn round with a great wide grin only to be looked at as if I was as mad as a hatter. Keep smiling and saying good morning, you never know when one day someone in the supermarket que will get chatting with you and the next thing you know you've found a friend. As for the courtesy thing, keep doing it too, it costs you nothing, makes you feel good and so what if they don't acknowledge it? Their problem not yours and youre still the good person you started out as. As Kells bells said, give us an approximate area and someone will be able to point you in the direction of schools and nurseries.

if you get one of the big kenwood's it has a slot on the top where blender / blitzer fits. http://www.kenwoodworld.com/uk/Products/Kitchen-Machines/Chef-and-Major/Titanium-Chef-Kitchen-Machine/ edited by Princess_I on 15/09/2011 I HATE mine and am now using my old Kenwood and other bits and pieces. The Chef is officially CARP. So do you reckon it's rubbish because it IS trying be too many things, and it would be better to have a seperate blender after all?

We used GAC to come the other way. They also unpacked our container from the UK when we arrived in Oman. They put DS's cot together wrong (which is not surprising) but there was nothing broken. They also packed, shipped and unpacked when we moved from Oman to Dubai. Again, nothing broken. That sounds ok...if I google GAC will it come up or is that intitials for something? Thanks SD

I'm surprised at that. When I lived in The Lakes the maids (mine included) were always to keen to take the kids to the park in the afternoon so they could all get together and gossip under the guise of "work". Sometimes they would even look up and check on the kids too. We had annoying maids, you have annoying parents lol! :D....all us parents getting in the way of the kidlets (and maids) social life...how could we?!

I would just tell them to get off my mat, especially as they are being so nosey. Tell them every single time you see them then they might get so fed up of having to move that they won't bother in the end. Oh, and......cooler weather is just a few weeks away ;) I can't wait for cooler weather!! on my balcony, i can't hear the friday morning/afternoon screams :)))) I have wanted to say something to the maids, but always felt kind of bad....i mean its their job to take these kids out to the corridors for hours on end...their employers tell them so...i guess when they get tired of bike wheels being rammed into their shins, they have no choice but to sit in the corridors as they can't leave the kids alone...i am more partial to blaming the parents tbh nup...LAZY. I lived in an apartment for 2+ years. never once did my kiddo play in the corridor, and we have never had a maid. There is stuff to do with your kids, but sending them out to play in the hallway, doesnt rock up there with 'proper' play. But sure, if thats their only alternative, you do what you can. Not personally my thing, but.

and this would be why, when I said good bye to apartments, I said good bye for good. I don't care how good your surrounding facilities are...this shyte in your hallway is enough to drive even the most placid person mad! (on top of all the rest of whats 'bad' about flats, of course ;) )

Lol, green-ish, I have a friend here in an independant villa in barsha with chooks, (and ducks, rabbits, torti's, cats, dogs, guinea's etc, 'cept her hubby has drawn the line at goats!) and they aren't there for the laying..they are rescues, pets and the most halirious creatures ever...I would have a couple of hens just for the company and sheer entertainment of it. Have had chooks before, and they really are very cool 'people'.

well. there you go...the others and myself fighting with them 3 years ago seems to have changed their approach to the whole business. That makes me happy, because if we went through complete rubbish with them then at least maybe it has made a difference for other families. I feel sure that if they had behaved honourably and honestly, then we would have had a long and happy relationship with the school. The problem being, you can say...I won't pay, it's illegal, and there are tens of people waiting for your spot who WILL pay, so theres no point saying well, if you won't behave legally, you will miss out on my fees. Rock, hard place. Good luck OP (but i do bet you, you will NEVER see reference to that 6k in writing, correspondence etc. Theres a way around the law and if you don't have it in writing it never happened :D)

I would like to say that it is a little bit unfair to DISS a school when you have not actually had a child there, this is only an admin issue, not educational. I think if a school is worth its weight and has a good reputation, then they would have no problem filling the places if people choose to change their minds at the last minute. Both of these schools are not in the 'TOP primary schools' of Dubai, so the differences between them cannot be too great. I do know that Horizon offers a very good learning support system for any children who require it, and often at the ages of 3 or 4 we may not be aware of any difficulties our kids may have. Many Moms on this board speak highly of Star, and I am sure they are happy with it, but I would not be, but this is just a personal preference. This is only my opinion, plenty of parents and children are happy at both. Personally I havent DISSED Horizon, it IS a good school, and was our top/first choice for when lil miss started school here..it suited our needs perfectly, and ticked all the boxes. However, their illegally trying to extort over 20k (and as for fully refundable...please read the fine print from the board of governors...some of it is, some of it is at their descretion, and ONLY if you meet a stringent set of criteria) in January for a September intake during the crunch, and then the VERY ugly manner in which the school battled to get their way soured the entire thing for us. Despite eventually 'winning' our place, and only having to pay what is legally required to secure it, the whole experience soured the school for us. The administration was the heart of the school, and I just could not see my daughter being greeted each morning with quite the same warmth as the other students were, and I couldnt put it past them to treat her equally and fairly...that is just how ugly it got. All of this was written about on here at the time and I wasnt the only person protesting and using legal channels to to try and make the school behave in an appropriate and legal manner. Many people will pay, of course, and that just keeps the whole thing roiling over. So, yes, it is an admin thing, but...it was a nasty experience, and one I hope never to repeat. The best advice is of course to visit each school, and choose what is best for their family and their child.

i recently discovered that we now only see updates from friends we "interact with"... FB decides whose stuff we want to see !!! lol To change that, you have to go into account settings and edit the friends list from Recently Interacted to All... and i think you have to do that every time you log in... yet another change no1 asked for or wants lol I did that, way back...but you're saying you have to do it EVERY time you log in? It is seriously close to getting scrapped.
