We chose to come here for the experience, the desert!, the travel opportunities, the work experience for himeself (thats an interesting point you've made CT) and the money. While we were on a very good (fabulous) wicket at home we found we were going backwards in a hurry financially, and living here has allowed us to save alot, spend a lot, indulge in our passion for travel, and have a wonderful life experience.

The only thing I can think of is your cars over 10 years have a different insurance coverage...like you can only get 3rd party or some such thing.

Whatever happened to Freckles? She only went and got herself a proper grown up job and abandoned me with the kids :( (actually, well done her! And the kids are just fine) She must be busy nowadays. We may never see her on EW again! Did she ever find a maid? Nope, no maid, just wasnt going to be ideal. But all the care etc is taken care of and the agency comes to do the cleaning as per. Is all good.

the dolls have these weird alien type eyes that take up half their oversized heads, and this hair that goes for miles and just looking at it makes me itch. and when you change their shoes their whole lower legs come off **shudder** Are those those ghastly "Bratz" dolls, or has something superseded them? My favourite was Betty Spaghetti, but I was left to play with her by myself, dorter preferred horses :) yep,. Bratz. i refuse to buy them, which is why lil miss has to save up her own money!

Funny isnt it? On the one hand you have people saying how helpful the natives are, how valuable the advice and information can be, and oh, what would I have done with EW?! And on the other hand we're all a pack of gang banging witches. Can't have it both ways surely? Maybe a newbie comes on, get some rather strongly worded conflicting information from what she wants to hear, and all of a sudden the natives are not friendly. So in that case, yes, EW is not for the faint hearted. But I will say that this forum is loaded with women from all over , and most will give their honest opinion based on experience when asked. There's some pretty tough spirited characters on board, and by golly, it would be a VERY boring board without them. And there are also some of the sweetest, nicest people on board. I think the rep for EW has blown out of all proportion...I still stumble around trying to catch a glimpse of this famous gang, this clique, this coven. nada.

Even under a general you'll be in and out in half a day. you'd need someone to take the child for the time you are in hospital (and then I slept about 3 hours as well after I got home). You can't drive either on the day, so you'd need someone to be your taxi. I think thats the same deal if you have a sedative or a GA, but am not 100% sure. (old age has made my memory selective) Be brave yes, but if it hurts, it hurts, and they will stop. I did ask for a proper sedative on the first go with me, one that would have me aware but painfree, but it didnt quite work out. That is not everyones experience though, ok? Also, being brave (and holding yourself stiff) can be counter productive. Any questions, just ask...but do keep talking to your specialist/doctor...all will be well, and when you get a definitive diagnosis, your treatment can start and things will get better.

So.... only oldies allowed on this forum.. no newbies are authorized to "invade"? newbies always welcome - as long as they don't post anything witty, thought provoking or "clever", know their place and edge in gradually by adding LOL onto "senior" members' posts... (i don't believe money needs to change hands but the correct attitude is essential...) :D:D:D:D Too true. Anything other than this until you reach 2000 posts, you will be labelled a nutjob or a troll. xactly :D

aww, MM. try not to worry so much...stress is bad for the IBS, as I'm sure you know by now. Yes, your first appointment will be for a consultation, they will go over everything with you then, and you will be given a colon clenser to take and specific instructions for the night leading up to your procedure. PLEASE discuss every little thing that worries you about the colonoscopy with your specialist...they will do their best to put your mind at ease and if you have specific worries they can prepare for that eventuality. You are given a mild sedative (in my experience only) and that should be enough to relax you and your very empty bowel for the procedure. Be aware that you won't get a great deal of sleep in the night leading up to your day,as that colon cleanz stuff is thorough. (TMI yet? lol) Now, IF, and thats a very big if honey, the pain is too much, they will discontinue the procedure, you will be given another consultation and they will make arrangements to have it done under GA. If it worries you too much maybe you could talk with the specialist and arrange to have this done first time round. Whether or not your insurance covers it as a first off option would be another story completely. Now, I have had an aborted procedure, unpleasant, but you can manage it and they will stop. and one under GA, waking up is lovely, and the discomfort after is bearable. The only reason mine was done under a GA was because I have a 'tortuous bowel', a scan should quite honestly have shown that up prior, but thats another story hth

Stick in backside, invert child and lite until melted down? *Warning* please do not try this at home. lol, sorry...I ment you can cut the waxy ones, but if it is a gel cap...how on earth are you supposed to cut one of those to get to the right dose? Highly entertained with unwelcome vision of child with melty flames coming out her backside now, thanks for that!

aww sima and co...as has been succinctly stated already...you need not justify the choices you make for the health and wellbeing of your family, to anyone, let alone to an out dated troll with nothing better to do to entertain herself than push some well used buttons and try and get everyone all riled up. She's not even that clever about it, so save your breath, relax and let lady lucks unhappiness just slide right on past you. Oh give over. Why is it that as soon as someone expresses an opinion that you women do not agree with, you brand them either unhappy or jealous or a troll? As I said I have a right to my own opinion and if you don't like it, well TOUGH. You can have your opinion, and happily too, but, if you are going to spout your endless homilies on an online forum open to the whole wide world of interwebby, then you expect to have people disagree with you and vehemently so. You've tried to defend your position with outrage, a bit of name calling and youre upset at being called a troll? bahahahaha! I beg you, please, go read my response to you some time back and respond intelligently to that, rather than take the 'if you don't like it, tough' stance. I mean, we're all far too old and tough skinned to be concerned with the if you don't like it go home thing....yawn. I am sorry if I have hurt your feeling by not responding to you personally. I will try to remember the next time that you don't like being ignored. No hurt feelings here...just find it highly amusing that you seem to ignore questions and posts that directly conflict with your rather firmly held world veiw on mothers and babies! Please feel free to ignore me in future, I will waste a lot less precious time on you in that case :D

LL what makes you think that just because a woman has given birth she is always the best person to bring up that child or even have responsibility for it? How do you think your statements to date have offended those who lost their mothers when they were young or to the male of the species, yes fathers? What about fathers who bring up their children? What about womens rights? What about families where mothers have to work to feed their children? Can you answer these? What would you do if you had to work to feed your children? QF, give up...youre trying to talk rationally and sensibly to a person without the depth to see anything beyond the choices she has made, if indeed she has actually made a choice. As you have already said, heres hoping she grows up and gets to see the world in all it's complexity and to see the beauty in that.

Easy answer? Give up work. Your child deserves your full-time attention. No need to panic ladies I just checked my calendar and it is 2011 not 1956. Sorry but have children evolved in some way that I am not aware about that requires them to have less attention these days from Mum than they did in 1956? lets see shall we: In '72 when I was born my mum still had to handwash and mangle all the clothes...a backbreaking, thankless, time consuming and constantly repetitive task. Through all those hours at the laundry, was her time focused solely on myself or my sisters? Not so much different from 1956, though probably a slightly easier task. All food was grown/harvested/slaughtered/processed from scratch. Given the machinery involved was the attention of my parents focused soley on their children? All of the cooking/canning/sauce making was done from scratch Clothes were made by hand, knitted and sewn from scratch. Their days RUSHED at fullspeed passed them in the effort to feed, clothe and shelter us. Their justice was swift, sure and punishing. Their time was consumed with the effort of raising their children to be strong, healthy, and to survive. And if some mums had to work to make ends meet they did, and everyone got on with it. People of my generation know that you only had to be home when the street lights came on, that we could only go inside if someone was bleeding, and that there had better BE blood. That we drunk from the outside tap if thirsty, and made dam sure we ate what was put infront of us, because there would be no more til the next meal. Our children of today have evolved somewhat then it seems: they require, demand and get (and deserve to a certain extent) more from their parents than their parents ever recieved. They have our constant 100% focus much of the time as the the demands of just 'living' have lessened with the availabilty of clothes/food, household chores and tasks being made easier with technology etc. I've read some of your judgemental posts on this thread Lady luck, and I don't wish to even get into the debate with working/versus SAHM with you...but if you must make sweeping generalizations in an attempt to back up your critical messages to a lot of women...could you at least use a little of your brain capacity to reason it through somewhat? here lady luck, let me bump my post up so you can read it without all the falafel of actually having to look for it.

Embarrassing...oh yes. Still can't deny the wee frission I get when I think about seeing how it might have gone down.

Jeepers...the poor kid! Back when lil miss was in foundation at practically a brand new school in dxb, I was thrilled to see how they managed the first day/new intake. All the newbies (actually everyone, new or not) had a star on their shirt in their house/class colour, their name and their year group. Each and every child was immediately identifiable if lost in the new school and could be returned to its class...so simple, and yet so effective. Such a small piece of forethought, and sooooo much trauma saved.
