Being a mum is the best job in the world, but it's also very hard work. If you are at home all day, it's tough. If you are out all day, it is also tough having to make up for the time that you weren't there. If you work, you feel guilty because you work. If you don't work, you feel like you are losing your work skills or that you are not doing enough with your LO etc. At the end of the day you have to do what works for you and your family. Nobody else has the right to criticise your decision, nobody knows why you have made it, and absolutely nobody has the right to make you feel guilty about it. Your LO loves you more than anyone else in the world, no matter what your decision is. *MASSIVE LIKE*

100 AED is half a week's salary for many labourers in Dubai. I think the purse is long gone. Sad really. And thats a shame...you know, I don't CARE about the money...they could gladly have had the money (in fact I would have been so grateful I would have insisted they KEEP the money). No one could know that I suppose, but the one thing I have found about the labourers etc that they really are extremely honest for the most part, and would do anything to stop a small persons tears (hysterics)...whoever 'picked it up' would have been in the vicinity for sure, it happened so quick, so would have heard the opening salvo at the least. Thanks BMAP...we've done under most if not all the shelves. Maybe someone did take the money and dumped the purse, and that would be ok if we find it. Quess where I will be visiting most days for the foreseeable future?

Easy answer? Give up work. Your child deserves your full-time attention. No need to panic ladies I just checked my calendar and it is 2011 not 1956. Sorry but have children evolved in some way that I am not aware about that requires them to have less attention these days from Mum than they did in 1956? lets see shall we: In '72 when I was born my mum still had to handwash and mangle all the clothes...a backbreaking, thankless, time consuming and constantly repetitive task. Through all those hours at the laundry, was her time focused solely on myself or my sisters? Not so much different from 1956, though probably a slightly easier task. All food was grown/harvested/slaughtered/processed from scratch. Given the machinery involved was the attention of my parents focused soley on their children? All of the cooking/canning/sauce making was done from scratch Clothes were made by hand, knitted and sewn from scratch. Their days RUSHED at fullspeed passed them in the effort to feed, clothe and shelter us. Their justice was swift, sure and punishing. Their time was consumed with the effort of raising their children to be strong, healthy, and to survive. And if some mums had to work to make ends meet they did, and everyone got on with it. People of my generation know that you only had to be home when the street lights came on, that we could only go inside if someone was bleeding, and that there had better BE blood. That we drunk from the outside tap if thirsty, and made dam sure we ate what was put infront of us, because there would be no more til the next meal. Our children of today have evolved somewhat then it seems: they require, demand and get (and deserve to a certain extent) more from their parents than their parents ever recieved. They have our constant 100% focus much of the time as the the demands of just 'living' have lessened with the availabilty of clothes/food, household chores and tasks being made easier with technology etc. I've read some of your judgemental posts on this thread Lady luck, and I don't wish to even get into the debate with working/versus SAHM with you...but if you must make sweeping generalizations in an attempt to back up your critical messages to a lot of women...could you at least use a little of your brain capacity to reason it through somewhat?

So if you'd been in Spinneys Town Center about 2 hours ago, you would have been treated to the siren sounds of my 6 year old daughter wailing broken heartedly. She realised within a minute that she had failed to pick up her purse from the floor in the toy asile. In that 1 minute someone has picked it up. Now, it's noticably a little girls purse..it's pink flowery fabric and some manner of elephant on it would probably tell you that before you even peeked inside. It doesnt matter that it was a gift from Thailand, doesnt even matter about the 100dhs inside that she has saved up and was finally allowed to spend this afternoon with her wee friend. What has really broken her heart with it's loss is her drivers license from kidzania that she is convinced is irreplaceable. On seeing the drivers license, you would see a photo of my girl, her age and her name rather wobbily spelled. yet seeing all of that still didnt convice someone to hand in a little girls purse filled with little girls treasure to a cashier or a security guard. Now, I am prepared to believe that it is possible that someone doesnt realise they actually had the purse til they got home and discovered it. I'm willing to believe they are heading back to Spinneys right now to hand it in, and I will wait with bated breath for the call from security. Sort of thing that COULD happen, right?

Koh Samui. Cheapest option from BK is either one of the over night express bus's, but we take the over night sleeper train because it's really good fun. You then have a short bus trip, and then a longer boatride to the island. Air Asia are HUGE in and out of the airports in the area currently. And there's no monopoly anymore on flights either to surat thani (then bus then boat to island) or to Samui itself, so theres loads of direct flights from BK to look at too. We do the fun travel option mostly though..all part of the experience. Koh Samui is just about my favourite place in the whole world.

I can set my watch by my afternoon slump. But.... it's the time that the children are home from school and we have stuff to do and quality time and/or homework to enjoy so I just get on with it and vow to have an early night. I get my second wind in the evening and go running or out with friends or on the net and then stay up far too late again and suffer again the next afternoon. Don't sit down. Take your child swimming or for a walk. Take some vitamins. Go to bed earlier. Do some exercise to energise you. Most mothers working or not are chronically fatigued and eventually you'll get your own time back to indulge in afternoon naps. Until then.......SIUS I'm afraid. That second wind in the evening is a killer I swear...always vowing to have an early night, and never do.

I bought the kit in dubai about 8 months ago, still using that set. the dvd is very helpful and a must if you are new to it. it is three powders to combine, gives good visual coverage and long lasting on the face. also very light which is excellent in this heat, does not fill the pores. i simply love it and cannot imagine using liquid or creamy foundation, or anything else than these bare escentuals powders. i swear by them. i also tried their smoky eyes eye shadow set, which is also great, but not the best ever eye shadow. the glitters in the eye powder do bother my eyes a bit. so, stick with the foundation kit, that is an excellent superb product. i think i bought the kit aroun 250-300 aed, not sure. the price arohadxb mentioned seems overly high. 600 or 900 aed for a small pot? no way!!!! i guess maybe 60 and 90, one zero less! edited by dentro on 06/09/2011 No it was around 6 or 900 for everything that I bought in the store that day, pretty sure the starter kit was 300 something with the dvd.

I bought the whole kit there a few months ago...cannot for life of me remember the cost. Theres a kit you can buy with a dvd that shows you how to use it effectively, which I didnt get (and on second thoughts, should have done...would be less likely to look like I fell in a makeup pot otherwise) which appears to be the much cheaper option, though I have friends who buy it out of town and it is more expensive here. I think, and could be wrong, that the pots in the kit are smaller than the seperate retail pots, because I seem to recall it cost over 600dh for each bit individually. or 900dh, I forget what is price in actuality, and what is price I tell himself. Is great stuff though, I just didnt like the staff. Luckily I don't actually wear makeup, so won't have to go shopping for it again until the year 2020. So you need the primer, the basque, the actual foundation and then the mystic veil to set the whole lot. hth

I've often had similar thoughts and concerns...it takes a village to raise a child.... and the result is the village idiot..................... So does that mean that next time I see a child, possibly yours QF, trying to set itself alight with matches and lighter fuel, I should turn a blind eye? If the village ignores the behaviours out of sight of the parents what you do get is an idiot who thinks it can get away with anything in some cases. While obviously YOUR children would never dare to try and imoliate themselves infront of the 'village', there are some cases where if adults took more responsibility for the whole (McDonalds at the springs town center after school springs to mind) then we'd have less endangering behaviour happening. edited by arohadxb on 06/09/2011 You just said it, parents are responsible for their children. Responsible, yes. But show me the child under the watchful eye of it's parents, every second of its life til it reaches it's majority.

Where is SQ at times like these? Anyway, it is so very easy. NO NO NO she can buy a pre-paid internet dongle from Etisalat. Did she ever ask you before she bought it? Or just go into your control box in the evening when you think she may be online and block access. Or set access times if you feel mean by blocking it totally. SQ. I think it's a moot point anyway. OP came on, had her descision validated, and will make a hasty retreat to the UK for the sake of one over the cost of the many (her entire family unit) Lets hope its not a choice she will have to repent at leisure. She will see her DH every 6 weeks (if not more) What about soldiers, oil rig workers and the like, they are still a family unit despite not living together for weeks maybe months on end. It's a 'special' type of person/s who can and do make that work, and I don't know of anyone who decides to live such a life literally overnight. It's not a decision to be made lightly, is all.

Our children only need us for such a short time. I would put my kids before anyone (including my DH) And I can't seperate it quite like that...I am her mother, his wife, and myself, but the whole is our family unit and THAT has to be the bit that is put before all else. The welfare of the whole, the betterment of the whole. We are a parent all our lives, there is no time limit on when we are needed and wanted.

Then thats a different story thompson...it sounds as if your current hubby would be happy for you to leave (why? if you don't mind me asking? surely not just because he perceives that the family finances may be better off) And then you say if you go back, you'd go for good? Do you want to go home? Unhappy here? The guilt as a mother you feel over your 17 year old balances somehow with the guilt you'd feel uprooting the small ones and leaving a husband?

I have no experience with 17 year olds (just a BiL who lived with me/us for a year or 2 way back when). If the boy has made his mind up on the course at college he wants to take, then I think he then also has to accept that things are going to have to change somewhat. Accomation can be found for him, stutents live in hostels, boarding houses and I'm not sure about the UK obviously (if thats where you're thinking of going home to) but Uni's and colleges have student accomadtion where we come from. You can't uproot the rest of the family for this, but you can make arrangements for him, see him settled and even if your ex has lost his job/home he can still be an onhand parent for the boy. Does your husband mind the financial upkeep of your son? What allowances as a student is he entitled to? Are the allowances meanz tested on your current financial situation or the boys father? There is a way through this, but you need to breath, think calmly and clearly. You say your son is young for his age, but he's not so young that he can't decide for himself what course he wants to take and that dxb is not for him. Think of options from that base point.
