he doesnt want a coach, or lessons, he just wants a pool to go to, to do decent lengths over the summer without having to join the whole gym thing at the likes of the Hayya Clubs. Does anyone know of any pools where he can just pay to go on a casual basis in the mornings/or evenings somewhere handy to Springs? Many thanks.

Thats the place am thinking of DC...behind the pepsi place? I reckon it'll work for the kiddie pool well enough. You don't happen to remember name of place? Spins getting annoyed with me for clearing out their stocks once a week :)

I don't know about junk shops, but flea markets, garage sales, jumble sales? Quite a few local charities, GETH for one, hold regular jumble sales to raise funds for their causes. That said, you can pick up a guitar for around 60-70dh at C4 or geant usually.

this would probably be a good place to insert the reply from Jesyka, the foster coordinator who actually spoke to the person mentioned earlier on i this thread. She wrote me this morning after being alerted to the comments and felt she needed to put FF's side on the board, so, here it is.: I've just been told about a negative thread on expat woman and have gone online to read it. They are talking about me, but as all heresay goes, they are very off topic. This conversation happened yesterday or the day before I believe. The woman said she would only take in long hairs as her 3 yr old daughter is allergic. When I inquired about this, as most people have allergies to the skin and/or saliva, not the actual hair (so I've heard), she said the daughter had been around one long haired cat in the UK without a problem, but any local cats in Dubai have always caused her a bad reaction. I told her it may be the environment here that makes it worse, constantly being inside with recirculating air for one. Also that we really do not have long-hairs at the moment. I told her summers are very hard, and I have no extra space, so if I were to give her a cat and her daughter had a reaction, I would not be able to move it right away. As she might be stuck with the cat for a few days, I did not want to risk her 3 yr old's health, and she whole-heartedly agreed that she also would not want to put her daughter in danger. ; end quote I am not sure how this conversation became a different thing on here, but, since Jesyka is the actual person who spoke directly with the person rather than second hand, she felt FF really needed to be heard on this. FF is a totally volunteer organization, we all work toward the same goals. Sals job is horrendous as is Jesykas and everyone else who has to make 'not so popular decisions'. They do a wonderful job with the resources they have at their disposal. I know many feel it is not enough and do not agree with some of the decisions FF have to make, but, at the end of the day, it is a charity, run by volunteers who are doing the best they can do. It is not for 1 cat her or one cat there it is for 100's here and 100's there :(..so please, when you feel the need to relate a negative experience with any of these charitable organizations, please think first, think of things such as, have you asked the questions, have you put emotion aside and thought of the best outcome for the animal. Have you considered the quality of life of the animal and the adoptability of the animal. Please, think first, and if there is a problem, please please go to the organization(whatever organization that is) you have the b eef with and try and resolve it, rather than come on to a forum and lambaste the organization without them being able to defend their actions :( No one is lambasting an organization that does such hard work, and everyone recognizes the work that every volunteer does. By relating one negative experience with one individual, it's not holding a whole organiation hostage but rather pointing out how things could be managed differently when dealing with members of the public who do rather bravely step forward and volunteer. I have had it pointed out to me that I sound exceptionally rude on the phone to numpties when dealing with my fosters, and I have had to take that on board. However I still have no patience for num pties. What this goes to show is how the memory can be very selective: the persons daughter in question is not 3 for a start. while the person may feel she delt with the call professionaly and correctly thats obviously open to interpretation.

well, don't use keys. Himself and I were driving from bottom off Nrth Isaland in NZ to top and stopped at Taupo for burgers over looking the lake. Had a half bottle of red and decided I would like a glass with 'dinner'. Couldnt find corkscrew, used car keys on the already opened bottle to dig out cork, snapped keys and were sat their for some time waiting for road side rescue trying to come up with a cunning explanation of how we broke key :)

Oh, for crying out loud!!!! we still havent got homes for the last flaming litter! Does anyone know if mum and dad have been caught this time? they couldnt be caught last time...they need to be nuetered sooner than asap. Dad is a husky, mum is a mixed breed...has the dobe or rotti colouring but is quite small. Kacie (my foster pup from the last bl00dy litter) will not grow bigger than a tallish fox terrier. They have lovely lovely natures...start off wild but settle in well in their various foster homes, get on well with other animals and children. They are a bit racist and don't really like men, bark, need a lot of exercise and work socialising as they get seperated from their litter mates so young. Drat drat drat. Will go find the dubizzle link for Kacie so you can see a picture of the dogs or what they'll be like. Kacie is advertised on the EW classifieds as well for free adoption. Problem with dogs of this colouring you get right proper nutters phoning wanting them for all sorts of nefarious things.

Water cooler for drinking / filling the kettle, tap for everything else. I did use bottled water for making ice but have stopped doing that. Will porbably try tap water in the kettle too after this, although will be very grumpy tomorrow if my Earl Grey tastes funny! argh! i got giardia from ice made of tap water...never made that mistake again. Mind you, we don't know how long villa had been vacant when we moved into it, so it 'could' just have been stagnant. Never the less, bottled water for ice, every time since.

Well here's a novel idea - why not prepare the coffee machine the night before so all you need to do in the morning is shuffle over to the machine and hit the on button.... :) now that would require organization and forethought...not strong points in the aroha household :)

aww, my coffee still tastes good with the tap water this morning, don't worry so. We go through at least 3 of the 5 gallon water cooler bottles...hate to think how many bottles that would be. A trip alone to the recycling, let alone the rest of it here in packaging mad dxb.

I was just thinking about that too...also the oxidation on the machine is quite bad with tap water. Might have to get some masafi bottles to have on hand for the coffee so I don't have to rely on the water cooler.

I use tap water in the coffee machine, and I am a self confessed coffee snob :D Thinking about it though...I really only use the tap water because I am lazy. The thought of standing there half asleep in need of my fix waiting while the water dispenser slowly gurgles out the water, then taking it to machine etc just doesnt do it for me. Tap it is...much quicker.

Yup...sueb here has said before that our wee street urchins benefit much from a decent bath...and the allergy's some experience may not be because of fur, secretions, saliva or skin...but rather wee nasties unwittingly carried by the kits/cats/pups etc. Always something to bear in mind when taking a newbie in.

there was a little something-something in the crowd...for sure. Scotty is going to be chased down by rabidly hormonal 15 year olds and will find himself married or burning within months. And Lauren needs to dodge that dodgey aged rock n roller with a 40 ft barge pole...honestly! he should be caged for his thoughts alone, the bad boy :)

lol plumie...they've been coached, and they are very young. Nerves were understandably a bit high. Still Laurens voice was thready and weak (and yes: I know about the vocal chord blow out) Scotty...cocky or not, still delivers solidly everytime. Laurens mothers song choice was designed to tip the balance, and i don't like to be manipulated so obviously. Go Scottie. He is a far more natural performer, and he managed to control that head tilt/eyebrow thing AND he stayed away from his signature deep down low growly finish. Showed a lot more range with a lot of polish. Better yet, bring back James, Paul and Hayley and Casey and then we'd have a show to remember.

Do you know of a good lawyer she can get advice from? Not worried about a ban. Does she give in notice to her job or should she leave asap? I hear expats left Dubai having abandoned cars at the airport, left credit cards maxed out. Would they have left rent arrears etc. It seems they just upped and left but what about tieing up the loose ends? or is ok to just go? I hear once you are UK soil they cant make you pay back anything, so you are right on that. She wouldnt want to go back to Dubai, so no probs. but would she want to travel anywhere? Doesnt take much for a plane to get diverted even if she is not heading directly here...if it has to land she will find herself in the poo. If she has rent in arrears, then the LL will have her un banked cheques presumably? He/she will bank them on the due dates and then she is prison bound for bouncing them if she has no funds to cover it. If she is planning on doing a runner, then I think handing in notice with work would just tip the banks etc off.

made her feel like an idiot into the bargain as well. Obviously, there has to be a vetting process for suitable homes...but if some one knows their daughter is allergic to one type of cat and not another and still offers to home an animal for the summer, surely you can take it that they have concidered the options, weighed it up and STILL want to help. And if it can't be taken as a given, alittle more probing wouldnt have gone astray.

all well and good SueB and being a foster parent myself (AND full to the brim!) the person from FF should really have said something along the lines of...well we don't have any long haired animals in need of a temporary (and good) home currently, but we will keep you on file for when/if we do rather than immediately assuming that someone who knows their daughter is allergic to short haired cats but not long is quite obviously a fruit loop and incapable of providing a stable environment for animals that desperately need places. Strikes me as a little short sighted is all.

and yet a friend of mine wanted to foster for the summer for feline friends and was turned down because of an allergie her daughter has to short haired cats. Nothing to stop her fostering long haired animals I would have thought, no? If they're THAT desperate (and I know they are) you'd think they'd take what good help they could get.
